  • With the upcoming u-healthcare era, a way of measurement for vital sign monitoring of cardiac patients is changing as well. In existing measurement of cardiac patients, various wire in ECG measuring equipment has caused much discomfort and inconvenience. In order to decrease the problem, we are developing an efficient measurement of ECG signal using Wireless sensor network. In this paper, we present a way to reduce amount of data by transmitting ECG data collected from radio electrocardiogram sensor based on Zigbee after calculating cardiac rate. And in order to control the error which can be caused by the different ECG signal intensity each individual can has, we also suggest an adaptive pulse measurement model which can measure heart rate with correcting according to different ECG intensity. To verify the suggested model, sensor application was developed and the data was acquired in TinyOS 2.0 environment and the adaptive pulse measurement model was evaluated through the data from the experiments.

  • In this paper, we described a design and implementation of a sensor node for environmental monitoring. The main focus of design for sensor nodes is to isolate MCU for treating sensors from the RF module for considering various communication environment. The second is to make the interface between MCU and varity of sensor. In addition, we choose a narrow band communication module, cc1020, for the admittance of Korea government comminication law. We also use a uC/OS-II as an operating system which is famous for 8bit MCUs. We showed that the communication performance is sufficient to use the communication module in a out-door environment through several experiments in that it is possible to transmit between loom distance through experiments in a mountain.

  • We combined CC2431(Chipcon, Norway), as the platform for the Indoor Location Tracking, which follows Zigbee/IEEE802.15.4 standards in RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) and Base Station Node and then, embodied Indoor Location Tracking System. CC2431 is composed of the Reference Node that transfer its current position at the designated place and the Blind Node. The Blind node receives the current position(X and Y coordinates) of the Reference Node fields which are being contiguous and also, calculates its current position and transfers it to the Base Station Node. The base station node is used for receiving the current position of blind node and passing its data to the PC as a gateway. We can make sure where is the Blind Node not only from the out-of-the-way place of the server side but from the outside in a real-time.

  • A wireless sensor network(WSN) which roles as a mediator between living environment and computers in ubiquitous computing is very essential research area. Due to the constraint that sensor nodes should work in very resource-restricted circumstances, an operating system that can manage resources effectively is demanded. Also, a sensor network should be able to deal with many events quickly and simultaneously in order to respond to various physical changes in outer environment. The Sensor Network Operating System such as TinyOS, MANTIS and NanoQplus is much designed so that it can satisfy such requirement. But, for programmers who develop application program for sensor networks, they have lack of frameworks which the development is easily possible from restricted development environment. In this paper for this, we implemented a state machine framework apt for responsive systems in NanoQplus which is multi-thread-based sensor network operating system. In addition we propose an event broker module(EBM) for effective event dispatching, a message data structure for message sharing among state machines, and an execution module that handles messages and their queue and performs state transition of the machines. Furthermore, we could do the development more easily an application program with a state-based framework by developing CASE tools.

  • Ubiquitous computing supports environment to freely connect to network without restrictions of place and time. This environment enables easy access and sharing of information, but because of easy unauthorized accesses, specified security policy is needed. Especially, ubiquitous sensor network devices use limited power and are small in size, so, many restrictions on policies are bound to happen. This paper proposes double-key based light weight security protocol, independent to specific sensor OS, platform and routing protocol in ubiquitous sensor network. The proposed protocol supports safe symmetric key distribution, and allows security manager to change and manage security levels and keys. This had a strong merit by which small process can make large security measures. In the performance evaluation, the proposed light weight security protocol using double-key in ubiquitous sensor network allows relatively efficient low power security policy. It will be efficient to ubiquitous sensor network, such as smart of ace and smart home.

  • With social interest, there hie been a lot of research on the Service Robot but now we are faced with the limitation of single platform. The alternative plan is the Ubiquitous-based Service Robot connected with a Ubiquitous network to overcome this limitation. Systems using RFID(Radio frequency Identification) and supersonic waves appeared for functions such as recognition of surroundings through Ubiquitous Sensor Networks. This was applied to the real robot and we have got good results. However, this has several limitations to applying to low power-based Sensor Network For example, if RFID uses a passive Sensor, the rate of recognition with the distance is limited. In case of supersonic waves, high power is required to drive them. Therefore, we intend to develop RSSI position recognition system on the basis of embodying a Sensor Network Module in this thesis. This RSSI position recognition system only measures RSSI of signals from each sensor nod. then converts them into distances and calculates the position. As a result, we can still use low power-based Sensor Network and overcome the limitation according to distance as planning Ad-Hoc Network.

  • In this paper, we propose a dynamic tree formation protocol for multiple UAV which is gathering data or accomplishing a mission such as disaster monitoring, environment monitoring, and disaster relief. Especilly, we designed Hop-LQI Weight algorithm to form optimal tree in wireless dynamic environment applying situation of radio signal attenuation over distance and implemented our algorithm in MSP 430 K-mote sensor platform using TinyOS codes. We verified performance of our algorithm by comparing average link setup time by the number of nodes with minimum LQI, link cost calculation method in wireless communication.

  • As a promising technology that enables ubiquitous computing and will lead the information technology industries of the next generation, the new field of sensor networks is one of the most active research topics today. From now on, each node, the network formation, and even the sensor network itself will interact with the generic network and evolve dynamically according to environmental changes, in a process of continual creation and extinction. In this paper, we propose a address-Internetworking scheme for interactive networking between a sensor network and the Internet based on the TCP port-numbers. The proposed scheme enables internetworking between a sensor network address scheme based on Zigbee and the Internet address scheme based on the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). We implement the proposed address-Internetworking scheme using Berkeley TinyOS, Mica Motes, and IP. In addition we verify the proposed scheme by an interconnection experiment, which involves wireless sensor networks and the Internet, using IPv4/IPv6.

  • There are a number of studies that propose transmission power control algorithms in wireless sensor networks. However, these algorithms have a lot of overhead in the initialization phase since a number of packets have to be transmitted to determine the optimal transmission power level. This paper proposes the transmission power control technique considering the shortest-path to minimize the hop-count without the occurrence of any power control messages. We applied the proposed technique on tree-based network component implemented on TinyOS. And we evaluated the performance including transmission energy and average network depth with 21 motes. Compared to before, the proposed technique reduces about 24.7% of the average electric current on transmitting. As a result of considering the shortest-path, the hop-count considering the shortest-path was about 41% less than a normal network.

  • An intelligent robot with RSSI based indoor location estimation function was designed and implemented. A wireless sensor node was attached to the robot to received the location data from the indoor location estimation function. Spartan III was used as the main control device in the mobile robot. The current location data collected from the indoor location estimation system was transferred to the mobile robot and server through Zigbee/IEEE 802.15.4 wireless communication of the sensor node. Once the location data is received, the sensor node senses the direction of the robot head and directs the robot to move to its destination. Indoor location estimation intelligent robot is able to move efficiently and actively to the user appointed location by implementing the proposed obstacles avoidance algorithm. This system is able to monitor real-time environmental data and location of the robot using PC program. Indoor location estimation intelligent robot also can be controlled by executing the instructions sent from the PC program.
