  • Two experiments were conducted to explore the implicit representation of gender-stereotype using primed naming task for prime-target pairs. In Experiment 1, Participants were presented gender's attributes as primes at SOA 250ms and were asked to pronounce person's names which differed in typicality and preference of gender's attributes. The results showed that gender congruent effects was not found, but typicality effects and interactions were found. In Experiment 2, Participants were presented gender's attributes as primes at SOA 250ms and were asked to pronounce gender's attributes which differed in typicality of gender's attributes. The results showed that woman's attributes superiority effects were found, but typicality effects were not. These results were discussed from a point of view of graded representation of gender stereotype and asymmetrical processing of gender stereotype to priming conditions in the implicit level.

  • It is increasingly clear that student mastery of concepts and skills in geographic education is based on a complex set of variables. Sex and gender are the key variables. Much has been written about biological sex differences in learning, but less attention has been paid to the impacts of socio-cultural gender on learning geography. As such, the aims of this paper are two-fold. First, to examine theories which seek to explain why males and females might differ in their geographic and spatial knowledge or skill. Second, to examine the extent of sex differences and gender traits in the geographic learning. The results of study illustrate clearly that there are more similarities than differences between the sexes. Therefore, there are significant gender differences between the preferences of regions, contents, activities in the secondary geographic learning. The results also provide insights into improving contents and method of geographic education.

  • This study examines gender differentials in depression among Korean older adults. Using logistic regression and decomposition methods, this study analyzes factors that predict depression of a full sample and separate male/female samples, respectively. Further, this study decomposes factors that affect gender differentials in depression into two components: the distributions of individual variables and the returns to risk. This study finds the variables that separately predict depression by gender. For male, having a smaller social network is associated with depression; however for female, the number of falls is associated with depression. This study also finds that being married, having greater satisfaction with current financial situation, and having good physical health increases the gap between males' and females'depression. Married male have greater returns from marriage than females. If females had the same returns as male, then the gap would have decreased by about 40%.

  • This study examines the impact of sleep duration on Korean adolescents' suicidal impulse. A gender-based analysis was conducted using binary logistic regression method. The major findings are as follows. First, weekday sleep duration had a significant effect only on male adolescents. Male adolescents who sleep less than seven hours on a weekday are likely to experience suicidal impulse by 1.9 times higher than the others. This effect remained significant even when other relevant variables were controlled. On the other hand, female adolescents who have less than seven hours of sleep on a weekday have about 1.3 times higher chances to experience suicidal impulse. However, this effect became insignificant when other variables such as stress were controlled. Meanwhile, weekend sleep duration did not have any significant effect on both male and female adolescents. By demonstrating the different effects between weekday/weekend sleep duration and male/female adolescents, this study supports the claim that it is necessary to take a social approach in studying sleep duration.

  • The purposes of this study is to analyze gender difference in predictors of mobile phone dependency in youth. The analysis is performed with third-year panel survey data of middle school 1st grade students from Korean Child-Youth Panel Survey. The results are as follows. First, the female students' mobile phone dependency is more serious than the male students' mobile phone dependency. Second, while the identified male gender predictors are aggression, parental abuse, aprosexia, study activity and social withdrawal, the identified female gender predictors are depression, aprosexia, aggression, study activity and social withdrawal. Based on these results, theoretical and practical implications in planning of prevention or intervention of mobile phone dependency are proposed.

  • This study aims to evaluate the satisfaction of students with a block system and it's effect on preparing students for a culinary career in the future. Summing up the outcomes of this study, male students reported higher levels of satisfaction than female students not only regarding a block system $perse$ (significant level 0.05) but with regards to career preparation as well (level 0.01). According to the choice variations disclosed by this study, a strong correlation exists with each of the p-values 0.000. Additionally, satisfaction with a block system appears to be strongly related to how well it is perceived to prepare students for future jobs with a RSQ = 0.840. Summing up the study's conclusions on gender effects, satisfaction with a block system is higher for males than females due to its being physically harder to take for female than for male students. Also, student grades have no correlation with satisfaction with a block system while they show significant differences in future job will. Freshmen (first year students) displayed the strongest level of satisfaction regarding future career preparation while seniors (fourth year students) the lowest. According to these results, we can posit a theory; gender and study years have an effect on the satisfaction with a block educational program and perceived value of career preparation. Therefore, culinary instructors and planners should consider this study's results to improve student satisfaction and future job preparedness.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the gender differences in children's emotional intelligence or their giftedness, and to investigate the relationship between children's emotional intelligence and their giftedness. Subjects were 268 5-year-old kindergarten children who were composed of 131 male children and 137 female children. The collected data were analyzed by using t-test, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression. The major results of this study were as follows: First, female children showed higher emotional intelligence than male children. Second, there was no signifiant difference between male children and female children in their giftedness. Third, controlling for children's IQ, utilization of emotion, appraisal and expression of self-emotion, and relationship with peers were predictable variables of children's giftedness. Among the subareas of emotional intellignece, utilization of emotion was the most important predictor in explaining children's giftedness. The results showed that there was significant relationship between children's emotional intelligence and their giftedness.
