  • It is said that China's maritime organizations are large-scaled and complicated things, so-called 5 dragons in Chinese ocean. Therefore that has caused several matters and inefficiency in many maritime fields. However Chinese leaders have acknowledged the importance of ocean and have pursued consistent policy in their ocean, for example, 5.11 project, national ocean development plan etc, As a neighbouring country contrasting with China on Yellow Sea, Korea shall study China's ocean policy and their features in maritime organization in order to prepare for the intense competition in future at sea.

  • sub-30fs 펄스폭의 상용 Ti:sapphire 레이저시스템에 대한 펄스압축기 및 2차 조화파 발생기를 제작하여 특성을 평가하였다. 그림la에서 82MHz의 주파수로 모드록되는 상용 Ti:sapphire 레이저 (Spectra-Physics Millennia/Tsunami laser)의 출력이 반사경 Ml, M2를 거쳐 펄스압축기에 입사되고 압축되어 나온 펄스가 다시 M6, M7를 거쳐 2차 조화파발생기로 입사되는 2단구조로 설계되었다. 압축기에 입사되기전 평균파워는 파장 800nm에서 520mW로 측정되었으며, 측정된 스펙트럼 반치폭 47nm에 (그림 2a)에 대해 chirp-free sech$^2$t 펄스로 가정할 경우 본 레이저시스템의 변환한계 펄스폭은 14.5fs로 계산된다. Infection of Wiches' broom (Taphrina weisneri) to the Prunus yedoensis along the 5.16 Road in Jeju Island (제주도 5.16도로 주변 왕벚나무 빗자루병 발병 실태)

  • This study has been carried out to measure the extent of damage for Witches' broom of cherry trees planted as street trees along the 5.16 road around the Halla Mountain. This study is expected to provide effective measures to prevent the infection of witches' broom. Among the cherry trees examined, almost all the trees of 40 years or over were severely infected. Those around 30 years old were infected as well, though they showing medium level of disease symptoms. However, cherry trees of less than 23 years were observed to be healthy without showing any symptoms. Cherry trees spontaneously growing within 30m width of the 5.16 road in the section from Sanchondan to Kyunwolak were less severely infected by Witches' broom (Taphrima waesneri), though there was a difference by tree age.

  • This study is on the synthesis of reactive polymer modifiers by emulsion polymerization to improve properties of asphalt for paving. Styrene, methyl methacrylate (MMA), isoprene and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) which has epoxy ring to react with carboxyl group of asphaltene were used to synthesize polymer modifiers. Modifiers with various composition were tested miscibility with asphalt. Modifiers which showed good miscibility with asphalt were investigated by DSC for $T_g$. Existence of epoxy rings and their reaction with asphaltene wore investigated by FTIR. Molecular structures of synthesized modifiers were confirmed by $^1H-NMR$. The synthesized modifiers which showed good miscibility had their $Tg's$ in the range of $37.5{\sim}56.5^{\circ}C$ and had isoprene contents of 30 wt%. They showed good miscibility in the 1 and 2 wt% concentrations, but not in the 3 wt% concentration.

  • We prepared a counter electrode by electroplating Ni as underlayer and Pt as plating layer on the FTO glass to increase the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). We found an excellent adhesion between Ni underlayer and FTO glass when Ni underlayer was electroplated at $10mA/cm^2$ for 2 min on FTO glass. We observed Ni and Pt metal diffraction peaks by XRD analysis when Ni underlayer was electroplated at $10mA/cm^2$ for 2 min, and Pt layer was electroplated at $5mA/cm^2$ for 1 min on the Ni underlayer. Photovoltaic performance and impedance analysis of DSSCs fabricated with this counter electrode shows the highest efficiency of 5.6% and the lowest resistance of 75 ohm.

  • The photovoltaic performance of DSSCs fabricated with different electrode thickness and different annealing temperature with the P25 $TiO_2$ and the Dyesol $TiO_2$ was measured. Thickness change of $TiO_2$ electrodes was measured using cross-sectional FE-SEM before and after annealing. Photovoltaic efficiencies of DSSCs were also measured by changing annealing temperature of platinum (Pt) paste on the counter electrode. Photovoltaic performances of DSSCs made with one layer of P25 (${\sim}20.4\;{\mu}m$) and one layer of Dyesol $TiO_2$ (${\sim}9.1\;{\mu}m$) annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. showed highest efficiencies of 3.8% and 5.8%, respectively.

Studies on the Strength of Cement Mortars with Surface Crosslinked cPSA Absorbent (표면이 가교된 Crosslinked Poly(sodium acrylate) 흡수제가 첨가된 시멘트 모르타르의 강도 특성 연구)

  • To study the effect of surface crosslinked layer on the crosslinked poly(sodium acrylate) (cPSA) absorbent, we synthesized several surface crosslinked cPSAs with 5, 10 and 20 g of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) by an inverse emulsion polymerization method to delay the absorption of excess water in concrete. We measured the compressive and flexural strength of mortars having 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 wt% cPSA-EGDMA. We observed the increase of compressive and flexural strength of the cPSA-EGDMA added cement mortars except for the 0.5 wt% cPSA-EGDMA (20 g) added cement mortar. 1.0 wt% cPSA-EGDMA (5 g) added cement mortar showed about 16% and 10% increased compressive and flexural strength than those of plain cement mortar. To study the effect of porosity on compressive and flexural strength, we used FE-SEM and porosimeter. FE-SEM analysis showed swollen cPSMAEGDMA (5 g) filled between calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) crystals. We observed the decreased porosity of the cPSA-EGDMA added cement mortars than that of plain cement mortar. 1.0 wt% cPSA-EGDMA (5 g) cement mortar showed the lowest porosity of 16.5%.

  • This study is on the performance analysis of modified asphalts which were prepared by mixing the asphalt with polymer modifiers of varying compositions which were synthesized by the emulsion polymerization method. Thermal properties of mired asphalt were investigated by DSC (differential scanning calorimetry), and dispersion of modifiers in asphalt was investigated by the fluorescence microscope. Dynamic stability and permanent deformation velocities of mixed asphalt were investigated by wheel tracking measurements. Modifier 6 showed the best results in both penetration test and wheel tracking measurement among investigated modifiers, which supports MMA(methyl methacrylate) moiety in modifiers plays better contribution for the enhancement of asphalt performance than styrene moiety does.

  • Sodium polyacrylate (PAANa) was synthesized by inverse emulsion polymerization method to absorb excess water in concrete. Liquid paraffin was used as a continuous phase. Acrylic acid (AA) was neutralized by aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (8 M). Different amount of N,N'-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) was used as a crosslinking agent to change crosslinking density of the synthesized PAANa. The size distribution of synthesized particles was measured by particle size analyzer. Swelling ratio of crosslinked PAANa was evaluated from the equation in D. I. water, cement aqueous solution, and $Ca(OH)_2$ aqueous solution. The FTIR spectroscopy was used to characterize $Ca^{2+}$ ion interaction with PAANa. Incorporation of 1.0 wt% PAANa into cement increased compressive and flexural strength approximately 30% and 10%, respectively, compared with those of ordinary portland cement.

Sooty Leaf Blight of Cymbidium spp. Caused by Pseudocercospora cymbidiicola (Pseudocercospora cymbidiicola에 의한 심비디움 검은잎마름병)

  • Sooty leaf blight disease of Cymbium spp. was observed on orchid fields located at Gyeonggi-do in 2005-2006. Symptoms of the disease appeared on leaves and leaf spots were circular to nearly-circular, these circular blemished were yellow, with greater amounts of brown to black flecks forming as the spots enlarge. Severely infected leaves were dry and defoliated. These symptoms were realized wrongly as symptoms by virus. But Pseudocercospora cymbidiicola were isolated from the diseased plants. Conidiophores were produced on the lesion surface of the leaf with the blemished areas andconidia formed dark brown, cylindrical and straight to slightly curved, 5-9 septate, $23.7-85.0\;{\times}\;2.0-3.4\;{\mu}m$. Mycelial growth was mostly slow on potato dextrose agar and the optimum temperature for growth was $25^{\circ}C$. We were identified as Pseudocercoepora cymbidiicola based on the morphological characteristics.
