  • Fire resistance is a measure of the ability of building element to resist a fire. For concrete columns, the fire resistance depends on many factors, including strength, density, and moisture content of concrete, fire intensity, column size and shape, reinforcement detail, loading condition, and aggregate type etc. However, it is well-known that the high strength concrete (HSC) is more susceptible to spalling than normal strength concrete (NSC) and the behaviour of HSC column exposed to fire is significantly affected by the spalling. Recently, as one of the measures to reduce the spalling of HSC, incorporating polypropylene(PP) fiber has been investigated and successfully used in construction fields. However, the establishment of assessment method on the fire resistance of HSC column is very important as well as the improvement of fire performance of HSC. In this study, the variations on the fire resistance of HSC column with assessment methods was studied for the columns controlled the concrete spalling by PP fiber.

  • This study investigates fundamental and spalling resistance properties of high strength concrete, W/B 28%, designed with the various diameters and contents of PET fiber. The flowability and compressive strength showed similar tendency in the range of below 0.05vol.% of fiber content. For the spalling resistance properties after fire test, the specimens with 40${\mu}m$ diameters of fiber did not spall at 0.05vol.% of fiber content. And the specimens with 20${\mu}m$ diameters of fiber did not spall even at 0.03vol.% of fiber content.

  • This study is to investigate experimentally residual strength properties of the high strength concrete containing the hybrid of nylon and polypropylene fiber at elevated temperature. Test results showed that specimens heated up to $300^{\circ}C$ exhibited similar strength properties to the one at room temperature. This result is significantly different from previous studies. but specimens heated over $400^{\circ}C$ showed dramatic decrease indicating similar tendency. For the residual strength properties, one at $300^{\circ}C$ even increased 10%, which is also different from previous studies, but it significantly decreased in $400^{\circ}C$ as widely expected. Melted pores by organic fibers in concrete specimens was observed with FE-SEM. For the density of concrete in elevated temperature, internal system in $200^{\circ}C$ had even denser than in $20^{\circ}C$, but was collapsed in $400^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper is to investigate the affecting factors on spalling of the high strength concrete including W/B, air content and moisture condition as well as PP fiber contents subjected to fire. An increase with 0.05% of PP fiber resulted in a reduction of slump flow by as much as 11%. Ten percent of air contents due to excessive amounts of AE agent does not lead to variance of slump flow, regardless of PP fiber content. For the effect of the compressive strength, high strength concrete with 15, 25 and 35% of W/B gained 60 MPa~100 MPa of the compressive strength. High strength concrete with H-air had half of compressive strength of that with L-air due to large amount of air. Fire test was conducted in accordance with KS F 2257-1 for 1 hour. Spalling did not occur with all specimens containing more than 0.10% of PP fiber except those with 15% of W/B. Moreover, it is interesting to note that the specimens with more than 10% of air content and with oven dried condition, respectively, had no spalling even if the content of PP fiber is 0.05 vol.%.

  • This study was conducted to verify seismic performance of special moment frame's joints at roof-level with high-strength concrete and SD600 bars. K-RC-H was designed according to the seismic code and K-HPFRC-H had 150% of the original hoop spacing and 1.0% steel fiber volume fraction compared with K-RC-H. Both specimens had remarkable seismic performance without noticeable decrease in moment, but with very good energy dissipation before rebar failure. The U-bars in the joint sufficiently constrained rebar's action that pushed the cover upward. SD600 bars with $1.25l_{dt}$ had minimum slip in the joint. It was considered that the steel fiber contributed to improvement of the bending moment and joint shear distortion, and the result showed that it would be possible to increase the hoop spacing to 150% of the regular spacing.

  • In this study, high strength concrete corbels reinforced with steel fibers and polypropylene fibers, and subjected to the vertical and horizontal loads were constructed and tested. The results showed that performance in terms of load carrying capacities, stiffness, ductility, crack width, and number of cracks was improved, as the steel fibers and polypropylene fibers were added. The polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete corbels resulted in higher ductility in presence of horizontal loads, but showed larger crack width than the steel fiber reinforced concrete corbels. And, the heads of the headed bars provided excellent end anchorage of the main tension tie reinforcement. Experimental results presented in this paper are also compared with various prediction models proposed by codes and researchers. The refined strut-and-tie model showed more accurate and conservative predictions in presence of horizontal loads, and the truss model proposed by Fattuhi provides fairly good predictions for fiber reinforced concrete corbels.

  • Increasing of waste FRP (fiber reinforced plastics) has caused environmental problems. Recently, the technology of making fibers from waste FRP, which can be used to reinforce the concrete, was developed and the reinforced concretes were tested to study the structural performance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the powder, obtained together with F-fiber from the waste FRP, on the compressive strength and the fire resistance performance as in the high strength concrete. Strength tests show that the use of recycled FRP powder does not reduce the compressive strength of high strength concrete if the volume fraction of FRP powder is less than 0.7%. Electric furnace test results also show that the use of recycled FRP powder may increase the fire resistance performance of high strength concrete significantly.
