  • The purpose of this study was to obtain the lingual morphology(angulation, inclination, horizontal and vertical contour) and lingual arch form of Korean adult with normal occlusion in order to provide the basic datas for lingual brackets and ideal lingual archwire. Dental models of thirty person with normal occlusion(Male : 16, Female :14) were selected for this study. Crown angulation, inclination. horizontal and vertical contour of lingual surfaces from Lt. 1st molar to Rt 1st molar of both upper and lower arch were measured. Lingual arcform was studied from copied papers of dental models attached Fujita lingual bracket. The results of this study were summarized as follows: 1. The average angulation and inclination of lingual surfaces of all tooth types for Korean adults with normal occlusion were obtained. 2. The average horizontal and vertical contour of lingual surfaces of all tooth types were obtained. 3. There were similar figures in horizontal and vertical contour of lingual surfaces between upper and lower molars, upper and lower premolars, upper and lower canines, upper central and lateral incisors and lower central and lateeral incisors respectively. It was possible that the use of those contour of bracket bases in common. 4. The average of lingual archform was provided, which was arch-shaped from canine to canine, linear along the premolars and molars with small offset bend between them, and where canines and premolars met, it was bent in a crank- shape. 3. There was no difference between lingual archform of male and that of female, although lingual archform of female was smaller than that of male in lower arch.

  • This study was designed to investigate dental arch shapes buccally and lingually at Bracket Level of Koreans. This involved studying 63 inviduals (37 males, 26 females) with normal occlusion ranging in age from 17 to 24 years old. The landmarks were digitized and measurements and statistical analysis were performed by NEC 9801 V-M computer. The Results were as Follows: Bicanine width, Bipremolar width and Bimolar width were larger in males than in females. Buccal and lingual arch form and coordination form were obtained by NEC 9801 V-M computer. The parabolic equations which represents buccal and lingual arch form were obtained.

  • The purpose of thus study was to measure the changes of arch and dentition of maxillary posterior teeth before and after treatment and postretentios in patients treated with Quad-helix. Measurements and analysis were performed on study model with carlipers. Seventeen cases, eight boys and nine girls, were selected with average ages of 12.7 years. Mean retention period was 4 months, and mean wearing time was. 127 days. The result were as follows 1. The interpremolar widths and intermolar width were significantly increased in maxillary first piennolar and molar when compared between before and after treatment and postretention. The maxillary second premolar resulted in significant increase in interpremolar between after tretment and post retention. 2. The long axis of maxillary first premolar and first molar accompaning buccal tipping was significant increased before and after Tx and post retention. Significant increase of the lingual inclination of maxillary second premolar was obsered both in before and after Tx, and before Tx and post retention. 3. The distance between the height of tooth contour was significantly increased in the first and second premolar before and after Tx, and was significant increased in the first molar before and after Tx and post retention. 4. Intermolar width at the palatal groove was increased in before and after Tx. and post retention. The palatal depth was significant increased in before and after Tx. In conclusion expansion of maxillary dental arch showed no relapse and results were stable retention

  • This study was designed to get the knowledge of the structural characteristics of the lingual dental arch shapes of Koreans. The subjects consisted of 107 normal occlusions. The lingual structure which was divided into two groups, anterior and posterior part, was measured and analyzed. 33 pairs of the 107 samples were used to test the derived results. The findings of this study were as follows: 1. The mathmatical functions of the 12 curves which showed good fitting to the upper and lower anterior lingual arch were derived and flawed to the same scale using the computer graphics. 2. The results of the test showed a reasonable degree of accuracy to all of the 33 random samples. 3. The average degrees of posterior flexions were obtained and could be used as a initial guide at the wire-bending.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the early effect of FR III on the growing patients with anterior cross-bite. The lateral cephalograms and models were obtained from 7 patients at the time of pretreatment and correction of anterior cross-bite. The results were as follows: 1. A slight tendency of rotation toward anterosuperior direction and the growth to anterior direction were shown in maxilla. 2. There were a little change of mandibular vertical position and increase in lower facial height although some variations existed. 3. The bodily or labial tipping movement was shown in maxillary incisors. 4. The lingual tipping of mandibular incisors was shown in all cases. 5. Maxillary arch width increased while mandibular arch width usually changed a little although some variations existed. But it was difficult to summary in a word because variable responses were noted according to a wide variety of skeletal type, growth, and malocclusion.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the micro-implant height and anterior hook height to prevent maxillary six anterior teeth from lingual tipping and extruding during space closure. We manufactured maxillary dental arch form, bracket and wire, using the computer aided three-dimensional finite element method. Bracket was $.022'{\times}.028'$ slot size and attached to tooth surface. Wire was $.019'{\times}.025'$ stainless steel and $.032'{\times}.032'$ stainless steel hook was attached to wire between lateral incisor and canine. Length of hook was 8mm and force application points were marked at intervals of In. Four micro-implants were implanted on alveolar bone between second premolar and first molar. The heights of them were 4, 6, 8, 10mm starting from wire. We analyzed initial displacement of teeth by various force application point applying force of 150gm to each micro-implant and anterior hook. The conclusions of 4his study are as the following : 1. When the micro-implant height was 4m and the anterior hook height was 5mm and below, anterior teeth were tipped lingually. When the anterior hook height was 6mm and above, anterior teeth were tipped labially. 2. When the micro-implant height was 6mm and the anterior hook height was 6mm and below, the anterior teeth were tipped lingually. When the anterior hook height was 6m and above, the anterior teeth were tipped labially. But lingual tipping of anterior teeth decreased and labial tipping Increased when the micro-implant height was 6mm, compared with 4mm micro-implant height. 3. When the micro-implant height was 8mm and the anterior hook height was 2mm, the anterior teeth were tipped lingually. When the anterior hook height was 3mm and above, labial tipping movement of the anterior teeth increased proportionally. 4. When the micro-implant height was 10mm and the anterior hook height was 2mm and above, labial tipping of the anterior teeth increased proportionally. 5. As the anterior hook height increased, aterior teeth were tipped more labially. But extrusion occurred on canine and premolar area because of the increase of wire distortion. 6. Movement of the posterior teeth was tipped distally during maxillary six anterior teeth retraction using micro-im plant because of the friction between bracket and were Based on the results of this study, we could predict the pattern of the tooth movement according to position of micro-implant and height of anterior hook. It seems that we can find the force application point for proper tooth movement in consideration of inclination of anterior anterior teeth, periodontal condition, overjet and overbite
