  • Recently, it is caused by environment change that is increased the number of lightning occurrence and the strength of lightning current is coming to be strong little by little. The performance of grounding system depends on how to construct. Specially the common grounding systems which uses the buried earth cable must be constructed by very well qualities because it is difficult to measure earth resistance and to manage the buried earth cable. Common grounding systems and independence grounding systems could be composed different. Against railway signalling equipment which like this is used from the environment lower part which is various it presents a standard grounding systems, and very it is hard job. We will present improvement through this paper that review grounding systems configuration condition of railway signalling equipment.

  • The minor construction companies in Korea have grown in focusing on the construction operation field. Also, soft field is vulnerable area, and there are not enough delivery systems, therefore, a capacity of the construction industry expansion and productivity is insufficient. Furthermore, the minor construction companies are losing their areas, because the major construction companies having numerous know-how and ample funds are competitive. As the construction industry are more larger and complicated, the design build methods might be increased in the construction industry and the minor construction companies could have more competitive. Hence, this paper analyzes the success factor in minor construction projects by design build methods focusing on instance $company^{\circ}{\phi}s$ case and survey, and critical success factor deduction and importance degree analysis of this factor using AHP analysis. In addition, this paper gives fundamental data how to manage the construction project effectively for minor construction $companies^{\circ}{\phi}s$ expansion in near future.

  • Project delivery systems determine the relationship, responsibility, authority and the scope of works of those involved in project, hence, optimum project delivery system should be selected to so that construction project would be executed successfully, Until now, the traditional design-bid-build mainly has been used for public projects, but the government is making efforts actively to introduce other methods such as design-build, alternative bidding by its policy. However, delivery systems should be determined through considering physical projects characteristics, owner's goals, external factors, etc, rather than government' policy. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to propose objective delivery system selection criteria and delivery system selection model, which help owners to select the suitable delivery system through quantitative and reasonable manner.

Analysis and Quantitative Estimation of Risk Factors of Design-Build (턴키 프로젝트에서 리스크요인 분석 및 정량적 평가)

  • The Risks in undertaking a construction project comes from many sources and often involves many participants in the project. This study has identified various kinds of risks, assessed the risk factors quantitatively and suggested risk management method for response pertinent in Design Build(Turn Key)type of projects in Korean context. A questionnaire was designed comprising of 145 possible risks in all types of construction projects. The population from owner, consultant and contractor groups was asked to indicate the risks applicable in DB projects. 25 numbers of critical risks in DB projects were identified and further analyzed for reveling inherent relationship between them through factor analysis. Factor analysis revealed 8 risk factors in DB projects. Construction site related, contract related and design related risk factor consisted about 72% of total risk weight. It has been found out about 6%, while considering the mutual dependency, it is about 10% of total cost of DB project. Therefore, It is suggested that 6% to 10% of construction amount as contingency has to be made provision for risk responses in the DB projects.

  • Integrated project delivery (IPD) is suggested as an alternative to traditional delivery methods such as design-build (DB), design-bid-build (DBB), and construction management at risk (CMR). Many foreign research studies have approached IPD not only in the contractual aspect but also the work implementation method aspect. However, most research projects in Korea have focused on the contractual aspect of IPD for asserting that the characteristics are the critical matter. The Korean institutional and legal system does not permit the multi-party agreement; therefore, it is difficult to adopt IPD in Korea's construction industry. The researchers do not wait the system to be changed, but we do identify the possibility of adopting IPD in Korea in the perspective of work implementation method, except the contractual characteristics. Thus, the goal of this research is to identify one project that does not include IPD agreement but utilizes other IPD characteristics whose contractual results have similar performance to those that utilize all characteristics of IPD including agreement. This research is expected to enhance performance of the construction project in a Korean construction environment by embracing IPD characteristics as overcoming limits and bounds of the traditional delivery method.

  • Design-build, which is defined as single source responsibility for design and construction, has been widely used in large public works since governmental formulation of measure for encouraging use of design-build in 1996. However, civic groups and small and medium sized enterprises are highlighting over-competition and unbalanced market shares of conglomerate in domestic design-bid market and insisting on decrease in the use of design-build and absorption into the lowest-price bidding. This study collected information about cost, schedule, quality, new technology adoption from 51 civil design-build projects and measured their performance.

A Study on the Design Development and Construction Process in British Airways London Eye (런던아이의 디자인 전개와 건립과정에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that influenced the construction of London Eye which was led by private groups, including characteristics in progress, differentiated value in design, the combination of technology and design, and construction costs. The results of this study were the followings. 1) London Eye provides a new construction method for a landmark in the downtown in that the architects became the clients of the project which might have been hoarded, procuring the construction costs and completing it by themselves. 2) London Eye presents a space utilization method where undeveloped spaces in the downtown are used in three-dimensions by erecting a structure on the river with a minimum land. 3) The process of design, production and erection is propelled the realization of technical intention design with one system and from at the initial stage, the participation of the engineer where the designer is equal with you must accompany. 4) London Eye is endowed with strong shape by a circle in design concept, which is the simplest geometrical figure, and it provides organic relationship between the past and the present by utilizing historical elements in various ways. 5) The construction was completed through four phases including idea phase, promotion phase, turn-key contract phase, and design-build phase. The most critical factor to the success is derived from the direct contact with Involved companies from the production phase. 6) In a project facing many challenges in terms of technology, the design-build method proves to be a more effective method than turn-key contract in that it may more allocate risks and enable coherent implementation of the core concept in design. The organization for the design-build method was composed of three phases including general affairs, responsible contracting by sector, and cooperative system by sector. Since that was a new concept structure, high-level contractors who hadn't had existing cooperative relationships with one another formed new cooperative relationship, while collaborating companies who had long cooperated led the responsible contracting and sub-cooperative system, which resulted in reduction of risks and time. 7) The major factors to change design were the design characteristics, derived from a technically great combination, and the opening time. 8) A new erection method was applied to London Eye, a structure that overcame the limitation in land and period, and the process of installation demonstrated that it is an important value for the construction of a landmark in the city. 9) In spite of many visitors and tremendous operational income, the factors that London Eye fails to free itself from debts include the construction costs expended double than expected, and interest burden to the investments, which occurred in the course of procuring the costs. Absolute limit in time increased the construction costs, resulting in being a great obstacle in the course of operation.
