Analytical Study on Buoyancy Preflexion Effects on Structural Performance of Concrete Floating Structure (부력 프리플랙션 효과가 콘크리트 부유구조체의 구조성능에 미치는 영향에 대한 해석적 연구)

  • In this study, an analytical studies were carried out for the buoyancy preflexion method to improve structural performance of concrete floating structures. The buoyancy preflexion means that the preflexion effects were induced to the floating structure due to the difference in buoyancy between the pontoon modules composing the floating structures. In order to verify the buoyancy preflexion effects, an analytical studies were carried out for the floating structures. The size and dimensions of FE model were determined through the structural design process. The parameter of this analytical study was length ratios of central module part, which induces buoyancy preflexion effects, to the total length. The analysis results were pre-compression on the bottom concrete slab and displacement of freeboard due to buoyancy preflexion effects. These results were processed according to the loading step, buoyancy preflexion loads on the bottom and live loads on the topside. Then, the buoyancy preflexion effects on structural performance was analyzed. As the results of this study, it was found that the buoyancy preflexion significantly influence on structural performance of floating structures. According to the length ratio, the buoyancy preflexion effects have a tendency of parabolic form and maximized at the length ratio of 40~60%. The buoyancy preflexion method is simple in principle and easy in application. Also, it can effectively induce pre-compression on the bottom concrete slab. Therefore, it can be concluded that the buoyancy preflexion method contribute to the improvement of structural performance and decreasing of the cross-sectional depth of floating structures.

Estimation of Erosion Damage of Armor Units of Rubble Mound Breakwaters Attacked by Typhoons (태풍에 의한 경사식 방파제의 피복재 침식 피해 산정)

  • Although the rubble mound breakwaters in Korea have been damaged by typhoons almost every year, quantification of erosion of armor block have seldomly been made. In this paper, the damage of armor units is standardized by the relative damage. In the case where the number of damaged units is reported, it is divided by the total number of units to calculate the relative damage. In the case where the rehabilitation cost is reported, the relative damage is calculated by using its relationship with the present value of the past rehabilitation cost. The relative damage is shown to have strong correlations with the typhoon parameters such as nearest central air pressure and maximum wind speed at each site. On the other hand, the existing numerical methods for calculating the cumulative damage are compared with hydraulic model tests. The method of Melby and Kobayashi (1998) is shown to give a reasonable result, and it is used to calculate the relative damage, which is compared with the measured damage. A good agreement is shown for the East Breakwater of Yeosu Harbor, while poor agreement is shown for other breakwaters. The poor agreement may be because waves of larger height than the design height occurred due to strong typhoons associated with climate change so that the relative damage increased during the last several decades.

  • Recently, the demand for industrial and residental land are increasing with economic growth, but it is difficult to acquire areas for development with good ground condition. For efficient and balanced development of land, new development projects are being carried out not only the areas with inland but those with the soft ground as well. As soft grounds have complex engineering properties and high variations such as ground subsidence especially when their strength is low and depth is deep, we need to accurately analyze the engineering properties of soft grounds and find general measures for stable and economic design and management. Vertical drain technology is widely used to accelerate the consolidation of soft clay deposits & dredged soil under pre-loading and various types of vertical drain are used with there discharge capacity. Under field conditions, discharge capacity is changed with various reason, such as soil condition, confinement pressure, long-term clogging and folding of vertical drains and so on. Therefore, many researcher and engineer recommend the use of required discharge capacity. In this paper, the experiment study were carried out to obtain the discharge capacity of four different types of vertical drains by utilizing the large-scale model tests and the required discharge capacity was calculated by several methods.

The Effects of Anger Management Program of the Psychotic Patient : Focus on Video and Tea Gathering (분노관리 프로그램이 정신질환자의 공격성에 미치는 효과 : 동영상과 차모임을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of psychotic patient after applying anger management video and tea gathering program to psychotic patient. This study was an experimental research and used nonequivalent control-group pretest-posttest design. Study subjects were 16 patients for an experimental group and 16 for a control group-32 in total- who were psychotic patients hospitalized in a closed ward in H mental hospital. The measurement variable is an aggressiveness scale, and the effect of the program was measured once after the video program and once after eight tea gathering. Data Analysis methods were real number and percentage, average and standard deviation, χ2 test, t-test, paired t-test, and Repeated measure ANOVA. The aggression of an experiment group was significantly lower than the control group(F=14.38, p< .001). Aggressive sub-item, hostility (F=8.53, p< .001), anger (F=6.10, p=.004), verbal aggression(F=7.58, p< .001), physical aggression(F=13.92, p< .001) all of tte experiment group was significantly lower than control group. Based on these results, anger management programs can be used as basic data for anger control in psychotic patient or in various groups.

Analysis of the Causal Structure Among Innovation Support Policy, Innovation and Performance: Focusing on Knowledge Service Firms (혁신 지원정책과 혁신 그리고 성과의 인과구조 분석: 지식서비스기업을 중심으로)

  • As the transition to the knowledge-based economy has been accelerated in the 21st century, the importance of the service industry has been highlighted. As the proportion of knowledge service industry in the economy and the related employment rate are continuously growing, it is necessary to bring innovation to the industry in order to increase competitiveness. In this study, the innovation types are diversified into product, process, organization, and marketing and the influencing factors have been analyzed with knowledge service firms. The complex causal relationship that is linked to the innovation performance has been analyzed by the structural equation with each innovation types as the intervening variables. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. The innovation capacity of firms in knowledge service industry has very strong positive effects either directly or indirectly on product innovation, process innovation, organizational innovation, marketing innovation, and the revenue and employment of the firm. On the other hand, innovation support policy through government intervention produce negative impact on product innovation and they do not create meaningful impact on the total effect on the revenue nor the employment growth. The innovation should ultimately create effects on the revenue and the employment of the firm. And the government support policies should be carefully designed in consideration of the final destination point of this complex causal structure.

Development of the Expected Safety Performance Models for Rural Highway Segments (지방부 국도의 사고예측모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The past researches on roadway segment safety estimation focused on intersections, which are the primary traffic accident regions. The past researches on roadway segments, However, analyzed the effects of certain factors on the traffic accident occurrence rate by organizing the individual geometric structures of the roads, and there is still a dearth of researches on the development of a traffic accident estimation model for rural roadway segments. Therefore, this research focused on rural two-lane and multilane roadway segments and developed traffic accident estimation models through the application of statistical techniques. This is required to explain such high frequency of zero counts in the traffic accident data. In this research, it was found that the Hurdle model is more suitable than the Poisson or negative binomial-regression model for explaining the excess zeros case. In addition, main variables were chosen to estimate their effects on traffic accident occurrence at rural roadway segments, and the safety at such rural roadway segments was estimated. In this research, it was assumed that there are different factors that affect the safety at two-way lane and multilane roadway segments, and a traffic accident estimation model was developed by dividing the two-way lane and multilane roadway segments.

A study on the characteristics of Micro Pressure wave for the optimum cross-section design in Honam high speed railway (호남고속철도 터널 단면선정을 위한 미기압파 특성 분석에 관한 연구)

  • When the train enters into a tunnel a high speed, pressure waves are generated inside the tunnel. The pressure waves at propagate in a form of compression wave toward the tunnel exit and a fraction of the compression waves that arrives at the exit of the tunnel are discharged to outside of the tunnel and the remainder is reflected into the tunnel as expansion waves. The compression waves emitted from the tunnel does not radiate in a specific direction but in all directions. If the amplitude of the compression wave is great, it causes noise and vibration, and it is called "Micro-Pressure Wave." "Micro-Pressure Wave" must be considered as a decision for the optimum tunnel cross-section as the amplitude of the compression wave depends on train speed, tunnel length, area of tunnel and train. Therefore, this paper introduces the case study of Micro-Pressure Wave characteristics for determination of tunnel cross section in Honam high speed railway, the pressure inside the tunnel and the micro-pressure waves at tunnel exit were measured at Hwashin 5 tunnel in Kyungbu HSR line. At the same time. a test of train operation model was performed and then the measurement results and test results were compared to verify that the various parameters used as input conditions for the numerical simulations, which were appropriate. Also a model test was performed, in order to analysis of the Micro-Pressure Wave Mitigation Performance by Type of Hood at Entrance Portal.

Optimization of the Unducted Auxiliary Ventilation for Large-Opening Underground Limestone Mines (대단면 지하 석회석 광산내 무풍관 국부통기 최적화 연구)

  • This paper aims at optimizing the auxiliary ventilation system in large-opening limestone mines with unducted fans. An extensive CFD and also site study were carried out for optimization at the blind entries. The fan location, operating mode, and layout are the parameters for optimization. Since the jet stream discharged from the auxiliary fan is flowing faster than 15 m/s in most of the cases, the stream collides with floor, sides or roof and even with the jet stream generated from the other fan placed upstream. Then, it is likely to lose a large portion of its inertial force and then its ventilation efficiency drops considerably. Therefore, the optimal fan installation interval is defined in this study as an interval that maximizes the uninterrupted flowing distance of the jet stream, while the cross-sectional installation location can be optimized to minimize the energy loss due to possible collision with the entry sides. Consequently, the optimization of the fan location will improve ventilation efficiency and subsequently the energy cost. A number of different three-dimensional computational domains representing a full-scale underground space were developed for the CFD study. The velocity profiles and the CO concentrations were studied to design and optimize the auxiliary ventilation system without duct and at the same time mine site experiments were carried out for comparison purposes. The ultimate goal is to optimize the auxiliary ventilation system without tubing to provide a reliable, low-cost and efficient solution to maintain the clean and safe work environment in local large-opening underground limestone mines.

Development of a Vegetation Buffer Strip Module for a Distributed Watershed Model CAMEL (유역모델 CAMEL 기반 식생여과대 모듈의 개발)

  • In this study, a software module to predict the effectiveness of vegetation buffer strip (VBS) has been developed for using with Chemicals, Agricultural Management and Erosion Losses (CAMEL), a distributed watershed model. Most basic functions for the VBS module are same as CAMEL except functions newly developed to implement sedimentation enhancement by vegetation and level spreaders. For verification of the VBS module, sensitivity analyses for length, roughness, soil and vegetation type of VBS were carried out using a test grid cell. The surface discharge of sediment are highly sensitive to the roughness coefficient of VBS. The removal efficiencies of VBS for the surface discharges of sediment and TP are generally high regardless of environment changes. The surface discharges of TOC and TN are highly sensitive to the length and soil of VBS. The removal efficiencies of VBS for the surface discharges of TOC and TN are generally lower than those of sediment and TP. The newly developed VBS module reasonably simulates the removal efficiencies of surface discharges that vary according to the environment changes. It is expected that this VBS module can be used for evaluating the effectiveness of VBS-based best management practices to be applied to reduce pollution discharges from various non-point sources.

Behavior of Composite Structure by Nonlinearity of Steel - concrete Interface (I) -Parametric Study for Nonlinear Model of Interface- (강·콘크리트 경계면의 비선형성에 따른 합성구조체 거동(I) -비선형 경계면 모델에 따른 매개변수 연구-)

  • As the load is increased on the steel-concrete composite structure, its interface begins to show nonlinear behavior due to the reduction of interaction, micro-crack, slip and separation, and it causes slip-softening, Therefore, it is essential to consider the partial-interaction analysis technique. Until now, however, full-interaction or, in some instances, the linear-elastic model, which are insufficient to simulate accurate behavior, are assumed in the analysis of composite structure since the analysis method and nonlinear model for interface are very difficult and complicated. Therefore, the design of composite structure is followed by the experimental method which is inefficient-because a number of tests have to be carried out according to the design environments. In this study, we carried out the nonlinear analysis according to various interface nonlinear models by interaction magnitude, and analyzed more accurate structural behavior and performance by maximum tangential traction and slip-softening at the interface. As a result of this study. we were able to prove that the nonlinear model of interface more exactly represents behavior after yielding, such as ultimate load: that initial tangential stiffness of interface has a significant effect on the yielding load of structural members or part: and that the maximum tangential traction and slip-softening mainly effects structural yielding and ultimate load. Therefore, the structural performance of composite structure is highly dependent on the steel-concrete interface or interaction, which may result in initial tangential stiffness, maximum tangential traction and slip-softening in nonlinear model.
