The structures, which are made up with the huge number of degrees-of-freedom and the assembly of substructures, have a great complexity. In order to increase the computational efficiency, the analysis models have to be simplified. Many substructuring techniques have been developed to simplify large-scale engineering problems. The techniques are very powerful for solving nonlinear problems which require many iterative calculations. In this paper, a modal derivatives-based model order reduction method, which is able to capture the stretching-bending coupling behavior in geometrically nonlinear systems, is adopted and investigated for its performance evaluation. The quadratic terms in nonlinear beam theory, such as Green-Lagrange strains, can be explained by the modal derivatives. They can be obtained by taking the modal directional derivatives of eigenmodes and form the second order terms of modal reduction basis. The method proposed is then applied to a co-rotational finite element formulation that is well-suited for geometrically nonlinear problems. Numerical results reveal that the end-shortening effect is very important, in which a conventional modal reduction method does not work unless the full model is used. It is demonstrated that the modal derivative approach yields the best compromised result and is very promising for substructuring large-scale geometrically nonlinear problems.
Lots of effort toward design optimizations have been paid for a cost-effective system design in various ways from a transistor level to RTL designs. In this paper, we propose a bit level optimization of an adder design for expanding its design space. For the bit-level optimization, a heterogeneous adder organization utilizing a mixture of carry propagation schemes is proposed to design a delay-area efficient adder which were not available in an ordinary design space. Then, we develop an optimization method based on Integer Linear Programming to search the expanded design space of the heterogeneous adder. The novelty of the Proposed architecture and optimization method is introducing a bit level reconstruction/recombination of IPs which have same functionality but different speed and area characteristics for producing more find-grained delay-area optimization.

This paper deals with a task assignment problem of multiple UAVs performing multiple tasks on multiple targets. The task assignment problem of multiple UAVs is a kind of combinatorial optimization problems such as traveling salesman problem or vehicle routing problem, and it has NP-hard computational complexity. Therefore, computation time increases as the size of considered problem increases. To solve the problem efficiently, approximation methods or heuristic methods are widely used. In this study, the problem is formulated as a mixed integer linear program, and is solved by a mixed integer linear programming and a genetic algorithm, respectively. Numerical simulations for the environment of the multiple targets, multiple tasks, and obstacles were performed to analyze the optimality and efficiency of each method.

In this paper, we present effective quantization noise reduction algorithm using signal adaptive filter and linear combination between blocks in multimedia system. In the proposed method, all of the blocks are classified into low frequency blocks, high frequency blocks, and midrange blocks according to DCT coefficients. Ringing artifacts are shown in high frequency blocks. So ringing artifact reduction algorithm is performed in high frequency blocks using a signal adaptive filter. And the blocking artifact reduction is performed by replacing the pixel value of blocky blocks using linear combination between blocky block and remote unblocky block. The simulation results shows better performance in respective of the subjective and objective image quality than the conventional method.

In this paper, we propose the bit-rate control algorithm for the block based image compression like H.263, H.263+ or MPEG-4. The proposed algorithm is designed to identify the quantization parameter set through the Lagrangian optimization technique based on the well-known linear source model. We set the Lagrangian cost function with the rates and distortion calculated from the linear source model. We calculate the quantization parameter set using the Vitervi algorithm to solve the Lagrangian optimization problem considering the Dquant method of H.263 and MPEG-4. The proposed algorithm improves the video quality by up to 1.5 dB compared with the TMN8 scheme, and is more effective in the video sources with dynamic activities than the consistent quality approaches.

There are various methods constructing correlation immune functions such as Siegenthaler's, Camion et al's and Seberry et al's. In particular, Soberry et al's is a method which directly constructs balanced correlation immune functions of any order using the theory of Hadamard matrices. In this paper, we have studied Seberry et al's method for constructing a correlation immune function on a higher dimensional space by combining known correlation immune functions on a lower dimensional space. Futhermore, we calculated the nonlinearity of functions which are constructed by combining of several correlation immune functions. That is, we have shown that the direct sum of two correlation immune functions and a combination of four correlation immune functions have higher nonlinearity in comparison with each functions. This functions in stream cipher are safe against correlation attacks.
Integrative analysis for better understanding of complex biological systems gains more attention. Observing subjects from various perspectives and conducting integrative analysis of those multiple datasets enables a deeper understanding of the subject. In this paper, we compared two methods that simultaneously consider two datasets gathered from the same objects, canonical correlation analysis (CCA) and co-inertia analysis (CIA). Since CCA cannot handle the case when the data exhibit high-dimensionality, two strategies were considered instead: Utilization of a ridge constant (CCA-ridge) and substitution of covariance matrices of each data to identity matrix and then applying penalized singular value decomposition (CCA-PMD). To illustrate CIA and CCA, both extensions of CCA and CIA were applied to NCI60 cell line data. It is shown that both methods yield biologically meaningful and significant results by identifying important genes that enhance our comprehension of the data. Their results shows some dissimilarities arisen from the different criteria used to measure the relationship between two sets of data in each method. Additionally, CIA exhibits variations dependent on the weight matrices employed.

The purpose of this study is to assess the seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridges using nonlinear finite element analysis. The accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process may be enhanced by the use of sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program. A computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The smeared crack approach is incorporated. The proposed numerical method is applied to reinforced concrete bridges and compared.
