Effect of Therapeutic and Educational strategies using music on improvement of auditory information processing and short-term memory skills for children with underachievement (학습부진아의 청각정보처리와 단기기억력 향상을 위한 음악의 치료적·교육적 접근)

  • Being engaged in the musical tasks needs cognitive skills to perceive musical sound, organize them into meaningful unit, store them in the memory and retrieve them when needed. These skills are also required for academic tasks indicating that there is positive correlation between skills for musical and academic tasks. Based on these findings, the study purported to examine whether the developed sessions can enhance cognitive skills which is composed of auditory information skills, which is composed of perceiving sounds, organizing them into groups based on the existing information or organization pattern, and short-term memory skills. Eighteen elementary students in 4, 5, and 6th grades have participated in the study. The study has administered Music Cognitive Skills Test(MCST) before and after implementing music therapy sessions. The MCST consisted of five parts, first one measuring the rhythm imitating skills, second, measuring the melodic imitation skills, third, measuring discriminative skills in identifying higher pitch, fourth, measuring discriminative skills in identifying identical chords, and lastly, measuring the tone retention skills. The results indicated that there was statistical difference between the pre and post test in rhythm and melody imitation skills. Because reproduction of perceived rhythm patterns requires memory skills, imitating patterns are considered cognitive skills. Also melody is defined adding spatial dimension to the rhythm which is temporal concept. Being able to understand melodic pattern and to reproduce the pattern also requires cognitive skills. The subjects have shown significant improvement in these two areas. In other areas, there were definite increase of scores, however, no significant differences. The study also explores interpretation of these results and also observed consistencies among the participants in completing the musical tasks.

Reconsideration of the Formation Process of Current Nagyangchun (현행 낙양춘의 형성과정 재고)

  • Nagyangchun is a Dangak that has been handed down to the present time with Boheoja as a Saak of the Song Dynasty which was introduced in the Goryeo Dynasty. The title and lyrics of Nagyangchun are conveyed in the Dangakjo of Goryeosa-akji and the Jeungbomunheonbigo. The remaining scores containing Nagyangchun include Akjangyoram, Sogagwonbo Vol.4 and Vol.6 of the Joseon Dynasty and Aakbu-akbo, the 6th Aaksaeng-gyogwacheol, Leewangjikaakbu-oseonakbo during the Japanese colonial period. Besides, the current melody of Nagyangchun is based on Hangugeumak and Gugakjeonjib published by the National Gugak Center. This paper aims to examine how Nagyangchun, which is currently being performed at the National Gugak Center, went through the process of change to have the same structure and form as it is now using these scores as a research subject. The study results are summarized as follows. First, the song of Nagyangchun, which was originally Saak but transmitted as an instrumental piece without lyrics, first appeared in the Hangugeumak Vol.16 and Gugakjeonjib Vol.7 published by the National Gugak Center in 1978 and 1979. In this process, the Janggu added by Kim Ki-soo is now disappearing and is replaced by Jwago. Second, though the five notes of 黃, 太, 仲, 林, and 南 have been maintained unchanged since the Akjangyoram, the pitch of 無/應 and 夾/姑, which appear once each, gradually rises and is unified into 應 and 姑 during the period of Aaksaeng-gyogwacheol or at the latest Leewangjikaakbu-oseonakbo, and reached the present. Third, the current melody of Nagyangchun consists of a structure in which the tones and range of each phrase rises within the form of Mijeonsa (a·b·c·d) and Mihusa (e·b'·c'·d'). Particularly, except for the a-type and e-type melodies, which are the introduction for the Mijeonsa and Mihusa, the remaining melodic types show a gradually descending structure within the corresponding phrase, so the structure of ascending and descending is generally in harmony. Forth, the Ganeum that appeared from Aakbu-akbo are currently classified into seven types, and they appear in ascending pitches of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th and play a role in smoothly or fluently connecting melodic progression. Fifth, after Akjangyoram, Nagyangchun, which had been handed down as an instrumental piece without lyrics, was restored in 1960 by Lee Hye-gu, and is being passed down as the form of male and female vocals added to the instrumental accompaniment. As a result of examining the current Nagyangchun, which was formed through the process of change after Akjangyoram, it was found that there were tasks that required reconsideration of the current Nagyangchun, which is being played at the National Gugak Center, such as the arrangement of Janggu, the identification of the key, and the investigation of the lyrics. When follow-up studies are continued in the future, it will be able to contribute to the cultural transmission of Nagyangchun.

An Application Scheme of I-MR Control Charts for Monitoring Internet Communication Network Quality Characteristics (인터넷통신 네트워크 품질특성 모니터 링을 위한 I-MR 관리도 활용체계)

  • In order to enhance their own customer satisfaction index that is one of the top level managerial performance indices, Internet communication service providers endeavor onto establishing a total quality management system. Specifically, it is under discussion that some critical Internet communication network quality characteristics closely related to customer satisfaction index should be controlled aiming to this managerial goal. This paper presents an application scheme of I-MR control charts for monitoring Internet communication network quality characteristics. This statistical quality control scheme generates a signal to practitioners when it detects the network quality characteristics out-of control. It is designed based on; 1) individual measurements; and 2) moving ranges between two consecutive individual measurements collected with a constant time interval. Empirical analyses are illustrated to estimate the expected quality improvement ratios that can be realized with the application scheme proposed in this paper. Assuming that the assignable causes can be revealed and eradicated, regarding two Internet communication services A, B, seven network quality characteristics for each service, eleven distinct measuring spots for each network quality characteristic, the expected quality improvement ratios are calculated with which the effect of the application scheme is evaluated. Results show the ranges of the expected quality improvement ratios; 1) Service A, (1) mean (0.31%-11.44%), (2) standard deviation (9.82%-71.10%): 2) Service B, (1) mean (0.29%-17.64%), (2) standard deviation (8.05%-60.59%). Hence, It is anticipated that the I-MR control charts based application scheme can be effective not only to improving the mean and dispersion of the network quality characteristics concerned but also to maintaining the network quality characteristics in-control consequently.

Comparison of the Singing Pitch Characteristics in Adults with Intellectual Disabilities Based on Their Choir Experience (성인지적장애인의 노래부르기 시 음도산출 특성: 합창경험 유무에 따른 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare adults' with intellectual disabilities voice pitch between who have choir experiences and those who do not. Participants were a total of 21 male adults with intellectual disabilities (12 choir group members and 9 non-choir group). Praat test was conducted to compare the characteristics of pitch, produced by the participants while they were singing in their comfortable pitch range. The results showed that the range of melodic contour in the choir group was broader and higher than those of the non choir group. Participants in the choir group produced a lower pitch in the beginning note, and they produced a higher pitch compared to the non-choir group on the highest and lowest note of the song. An analysis on the pitch of the individual note that the participants produced revealed a gap between the expected pitch notes and the actual notes produced while singing. In all syllables of the song, participants in the choir group showed higher accuracy of the pitch production, and significantly more accurate on the perfect fifth and eighth intervals. Regarding to the relative pitch, participants in the choir group produced significantly more accurate notes on perfect fifth, perfect fourth, and perfect eighth intervals. Findings of the study suggest that constant singing experience enable them to have pitch training. It also implies for further studies regarding to singing abilities of adults with intellectual disabilities.

  • MusicXML, ScoreML과 같은 포맷은 음악을 XML로 표현한 것으로 음정, 박자, 조성, 리듬, 화음 등 모든 정보를 표현하기 위해 고안되었다. 즉, XML이 가지고 있는 간단성, 확장성, 재사용성의 장점을 가지며 분석, 검색, 표기법에 훨씬 큰 장점을 가진 마크업 언어들이다. 기존의 음악 검색에 대한 연구들이 음악파일에 대한 것에 행해졌던 것에 비해 본 논문은 음악을 덱스트로 표현한 XML에서 효과적인 선율 검색을 위해 계이름을 사용한 검색시스템을 제안한다.

  • 서사적 영화에서 음악의 주요 기능은 영화의 이야기를 효과적으로 전달하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 팀 버튼의 영화 <이상한 나라의 앨리스>에 나타난 모험 여정에 따른 테마 음악의 변화를 살펴보고 내용 전개를 돕기 위해 테마 음악을 어떻게 활용하였는지 연구한다. <이상한 나라의 앨리스>에서는 테마의 선율을 일부 변형하거나 빠르기, 악기 편성, 음악의 크기 등을 변화시켜 이야기 전개를 보조한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 현재 Jazz에서 사용되어지는 화성기법을 Pat Metheny의 작품인 “Question & Answer”를 통해서 알아보았다. D Minor Pentatonic Scale이 선율에 주로 사용된 본 작품은 Intro부분에서는 Quater Voicing이 사용되었다. A 부분에서는 Line Cliche와 D Minor Scale과 D Harmonic Minor Scale의 Diatonic Chord를 사용하였지만 A Aeolian Mode적인 기법이 A부분 셋 번째 단에서 사용되어 Modal적인 분위기도 연출 하였으며 B부분에서는 John Coltrane이 자주 사용하였던 3 Tonic 기법이 사용되면서 동질의 화성이 일정간격으로 움직이는 Constant Structure기법도 사용되었다.

영화 속 캐릭터와 음악적 스타일의 결합

  • 본 논문에서는 음악이 음악 아닌 다른 대상의 이미지나 분위기를 의미 있는 구조로 만들어주는 연상 작용을 전제로 하여 하나의 음악적 아이디어, 선율 라인, 또는 음악 스타일이 영화 속 캐릭터와 결합되는 예들을 실제 작품에 근거해 고찰하였다. 여기에 포함된 음악 자료는 1950년대를 전후한 미국 영화의 주요 작가들의 작품들로서, 영화의 결합력에 기여하는 음악이 주로 어떤 방식으로 특정 인물이나 집단, 상징적 의미 등을 캐릭터화 하는가를 분석하였다.
