Performance Assessment of Two-stream Convolutional Long- and Short-term Memory Model for September Arctic Sea Ice Prediction from 2001 to 2021 (Two-stream Convolutional Long- and Short-term Memory 모델의 2001-2021년 9월 북극 해빙 예측 성능 평가)

  • Sea ice, frozen sea water, in the Artic is a primary indicator of global warming. Due to its importance to the climate system, shipping-route navigation, and fisheries, Arctic sea ice prediction has gained increased attention in various disciplines. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), motivated by a desire to develop more autonomous and efficient future predictions, have led to the development of new sea ice prediction models as alternatives to conventional numerical and statistical prediction models. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the two-stream convolutional long-and short-term memory (TS-ConvLSTM) AI model, which is designed for learning both global and local characteristics of the Arctic sea ice changes, for the minimum September Arctic sea ice from 2001 to 2021, and to show the possibility for an operational prediction system. Although the TS-ConvLSTM model generally increased the prediction performance as training data increased, predictability for the marginal ice zone, 5-50% concentration, showed a negative trend due to increasing first-year sea ice and warming. Additionally, a comparison of sea ice extent predicted by the TS-ConvLSTM with the median Sea Ice Outlooks (SIOs) submitted to the Sea Ice Prediction Network has been carried out. Unlike the TS-ConvLSTM, the median SIOs did not show notable improvements as time passed (i.e., the amount of training data increased). Although the TS-ConvLSTM model has shown the potential for the operational sea ice prediction system, learning more spatio-temporal patterns in the difficult-to-predict natural environment for the robust prediction system should be considered in future work.

A Study on the Application of Marine Emulsion Fuel for Tier 3 Regulation (Tier 3 규제 대응을 위한 선박용 에멀젼 연료 적용성 연구)

  • In this study, the characteristics of emulsified fuel and engine emissions were studied with an engine dynamometer. In the results of physical property analysis, the margin of error of net calorific value and gross calorific value was ${\pm}0.5%$, were almost same theoretical calculation and results of physical property analysis test. In emulsified fuel, density and viscosity increased with increasing water contents. Emulsified fuel which is composed of water and Bunker-A was manufactured by using homogenizer and ultrasonic generator in $80^{\circ}C$. Phase separation did not take place in $20^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$. In the results of engine dynamometer test, NOx concentration and smoke density were reduced with increasing water contents in using emulsified fuel. Total NOx could be reduced by about 41%, 10%, 32% and 28% at 1,000 rpm, 1,200 rpm, 1,500 rpm and 2,500 rpm respectively. Total smoke density was reduced to 42%, 65%, 70%, 62%, and 82% at 1,000 rpm, 1,200 rpm, 1,500 rpm, 2,000 rpm, and 2,500 rpm respectively.

  • 항만건설에 있어서 항만의 내부시설 중에서 무엇보다도 가장 중요한 시설물은 선박을 안전하게 접안시켜 하역할 수 있는 안벽시설물이다. 안벽구조 형식의 결정은 항만의 이용목적 등에 따라서 달라지지만 항만의 건설입지조건 등에 의해서도 달라진다. 안벽구조형식 중에서 잔교 식 안벽은 무엇보다도 단기간에 건설이 용이하여 지금까지 각국에서 널리 사용되어 왔고 장래에도 이용도가 증가되리라 생각한다. 최근에는 해안선을 이용한 위락시설이 건설되면서 잔교 식 안벽구조물을 설치하여 보조시설물로 이용하는 경우가 많다. 과거에 설계되어 잔교를 설계할 경우는 일반적으로 항내의 정온이 잘 유지되는 경우에 대해서 설치하는 경우가 많기 때문에 파랑에 의한 반사율과 잔교 상부에 작용하는 양압력을 고려해야할 필요성이 거의 없었다. 그러나 최근에는 태풍이 내습할 경우 기존의 항내로 높은 파랑이 침입하는 경우가 발생하고 있어 항내에서도 잔교의 파괴로 인한 자연재해가 대형화되는 경우가 발생하고 있다. 또, 처음부터 안벽을 설계할 때에 대형화의 잔교 식 안벽구조물을 설치하는 경우도 있다. 이런 잔교 식 안벽 구조물을 잔교의 상부 판에 작용하는 양압력 분포와 잔교 전면의 반사율 등이 구조물의 유지관리 등에 미치는 영향이 매우 크기 때문에 반사율 검토와 양압력을 고려한 설계가 필요하다. 본연구의 대상은 일정 해역에 잔교 식 안벽을 설계하고자 할때 최적의 안벽 설계가 될 수 있도록 수리모형실험을 실시하여 구조물의 안전과 항내정온에 기초가 되는 자료를 도출하고자 하였다. 따라서 본 수리모형실험으로 인한 연구는 잔교 식 안벽에 대한 반사율과 상부에 작용하는 양압력, 잔교말뚝(pile)에 작용하는 수평압력을 검토하여 잔교 식 안벽 설계에 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 혈청을 이용한 동결보존을 대체할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.지에 더해주면 세포의 증식이 개선될 것이다. 그래서 몇 가지 첨가물을 이용해 세포의 증식력에 변화가 나타나는지 알아보았다. 첨가물을 이용한 실험에서 IGF-I의 경우 장기간 배양에서 세포의 수를 안정적으로 유지하고 계대 횟수를 증가시키는 효과를 보였다. 이는 IGF-I이 어느정도 세포의 증식을 유지시켜주는 역할을 하기 때문인 것으로 생각된다. 무혈청 배지에서 비적응 CHO 세포의 계대 배양에 한계가 있는 것은 세포주기가 멈추기 때문인 것으로 생각된다. 세포주기가 멈추는 growth factor와 같이 세포의 증식을 지속적으로 유도할 수 있는 물질이 무혈청 배지에서는 부족하기 때문인 것으로 생각되고, IGF-I과 같은 첨가물을 통해 극복할 수 있는 문제라고 여겨진다.관점과 주거교육가치관 요소와의 관계를 알아본 결과, 전통적 관점은 주거교육가치관 요소 중 오직 주거관리적 요소와 관계가 있었으나 그 정도는 낮으며 실천적 관점과 구조적 관점은 주거가치관의 각 요소에 따라 약간 다르기는 했으나 주로 보통의 관계를 보였다.군 순으로 높게 관찰되었다. 이상의 결과를 종합할 때, 임상에서 니켈-티타늄 합금 와이어에 굴곡을 부여하기 위해 열처리하는 경우 초탄성 특성은 유지될 수 있으나, 부하-변위 곡선의 상방 증가가 나타나므로, 와이어에 의한 교정력이 증가될 수 있음에 유의하여야 한다. $day^{-1}$인 인공습지), scenario 2(면적 4.2ha인 저류지)가 각각 연평균 6.9%, 4.8%, 7.1%의 감소를 보였다.   • The increasing use of curved beams in buildings, vehicles, ships, and aircraft has prompted studies directed toward the development of an accurate method for analyzing the dynamic behavior of such structures. The stability behavior of elastic curved beams has been the subject of a large number of investigations. Solutions of the relevant differential equations have been obtained traditionally using standard finite difference or finite element methods. These techniques require a great deal of computer time as the number of discrete nodes becomes relatively large under the conditions of complex geometry and loading. One of the efficient procedures for the solution of partial differential equations is the method of differential quadrature. The differential quadrature method (DQM) has been applied to a large number of cases to overcome the difficulties of the complex algorithms of programming for the computer, as well as the excessive use of storage due to the conditions of complex geometry and loading. The in-plane buckling of curved beams considering the extensibility of the arch axis was analyzed under uniformly distributed radial loads using the DQM. The critical loads were calculated for the member with various parameter ratios, boundary conditions, and opening angles. The results were compared with the precise results by other methods for cases, in which they were available. The DQM, using only a limited number of grid points, provided results that agreed very well (less than 0.3%) with the exact ones. New results according to diverse variations were obtained, showing the important roles in the buckling behavior of curved beams, and can be used in comparisons with other numerical solutions or with experimental test data.

  • IMO (International Maritime Organization) has been providing GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) and mandating to install distress and safety systems according to SOLAS. Digital-HF(High-Frequency) coast station communication system maintains interoperability between ship and coast station and digital data exchange in maritime mobile service by digitizing existing analog base voice communication. In this paper, we analyze ITU-R M. 1798-1 established by ITU for digital HF communications and propose Advanced annex2 and new Annex 5 to improve the problems of the existing Annex 2 and Annex 4. The proposed OFDM protocol basically adopts ARQ (Automatic Retransmission Request) which retransmits when an error occurs in a half-duplex manner between an information transmitting side (ISS) and an information receiving side (IRS) and we propose a digital HF communication system and its operational concept which is more reliable and superior than the existing ITU-R M. 1798 by implementing technical development on implementation and performance improvement.

Analysis on Development Process of Major Chinese Hub Ports and Characteristics of Panel Data (중국 주요 거점항만의 개발과정과 패널자료의 특성 분석)

  • China, a leader of regional economies in North-East Asia, helps to integrate a single shipping market and affects diversely main ports in the region through affecting the flows of container transshipment, strategies of shipping companies for port calling and shipping networks. This study examines competition and cooperation among the hub ports in the region through studying examples of the three Chinese hub ports -Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tianjin- and concludes some implications of status change of hub ports in the region after scrutinising development process of the Chinese main hub ports and the historic interaction of port development among these ports. The characteristics of growth pattern of three ports are as follows. The port of Hong Kong constructs step by step the container facilities in accordance with demand growth and prefers stabilisation of operation and management through scale enlargement of port facilities. Even though demand grows continually, the port of Shanghai continued its defensive attitude towards facility expansion till the 1990s and has tried to get economies of scale in enlargement of port facilities. The port of Tianjin, similarly as the two other ports, expands serially its facilities and utilizes the capacity concentration and functional specialisation of facilities. The analysis of panel data and panel regression of three hub ports implicates that each port has its own specific demand and shows that the interaction of container handling among three ports was weak in 1980s and has become stricter and stronger since 1990.

A Study on Designing an Effective Support Point for After-Stern Tube Bearings Concerning Shaft Alignment (추진축계 정렬시 선미관 베어링 유효지지점 설정에 관한 연구)

  • Generally, the gap-and-sag method is used in the shipbuilding stage before coupling the shafts to check whether they are installed at the same position as designed and derived from shaft alignment calculation. The primary installed propeller shaft becomes a reference point, the position of the remaining shafts are sequentially determined through the gap-and-sag value derived from the deflection and deflection angle at each shaft flange by own weight. If the reference point varies against the design value, it would have a series of effects on the installation of the remaining shafts. Moreover, after coupling the shafts, even if the bearing reaction forces derived from measurement are satisfied by the allowable limit range, consequently it might have an adverse effect on the stability of the shafting system by not being able to estimate the relative slope angle between the propeller shaft and the after-stern tube bearing. In this paper, to deal with above-mentioned phenomenon, the theoretical calculations related to designing an effective support point of the aft stern tube bearing and analysis by measurement is conducted through a case of open-up inspections. Based on this, a shaft installation guideline is proposed to minimize the misalignment related to preventing wiping damage of the after-stern tube bearing.

An Analysis on the Characteristics of Wind Distribution in the Coast of Busan Using AWS Data (AWS 데이터를 이용한 부산 해안의 바람분포 특성 해석)

  • Wind velocity and wind direction are very important in the viewpoint of ship's safety and stability of port structure. The characteristics of wind distribution in the coast of Busan are analyzed for 10 years from 1997 to 2006 using AWS(Automatic Weather System) data. The characteristics of wind distribution of Miryang, is not affected by the land and sea breeze are also examined to understand clearly the characteristics of wind distribution in the coast of Busan. The mean wind velocity in the coast of Busan is stronger than that of Miryang. The mean wind velocitie at Youngdo and Gadukdo stations of Busan are stronger about 2.0 times than those at IlGwang, Haeundae and Daeyeon stations. The correlation a states show that the variation tendencies of monthly mean wind velocitie in the coast of Busan are very similar. The maximum monthly mean velocitie in the coast of Busan are recorded in September. This re ult is closely related to the influence of typhoon. The maximum instantaneous wind velocitie are also strong at Youngdo and Gadukdo stations and the peaks of maximum instantaneous wind $velocit^9$ are observed mainly from August to September. In the coast of Busan, the SW'ly-NNE'ly wind are prevailing in the winter and the SW'ly and NE'ly wind are predomi snt in the spring. w that the vs of wind direction in the summer and athumn are similar with those in the spring and winter, respectively.

Electrode bonding method and characteristic of high density rechargeable battery using induction heating system (유도 가열 접합 시스템을 이용한 대용량 이차전지 전극의 접합 방법 및 특성)

  • In this study, electrode bonding technology needed for high density of rechargeable battery is studied, which is recently researched for electric vehicle, the small leisure vessel. For the alternative overcoming the limit of stacking amount able to be stacked by conventional ultrasonic welding, the low temperature bonding method, eligible for minimum of degeneration of chemical activator on the electrode surface which is generated by thermal effect as well as the increase of conductivity and tension strength caused by electrode bonding using filler metal, not using conventional direct heating on the electrode material method, is studied. Specifically to say, recently used more generally the ultrasonic welding and spot welding method are not usable for satisfying stable electric conductivity and bonding strength when much electrode is stacking bonded. If the electrical power is unreasonably increased for the welding, due to the effect of welding temperature, deformation of electrode and activating material degeneration are caused, and after the last packaging, decline of electrical output and generating heat cause to reduce stability of battery. Therefore, in this study, induction heating system bonding method using high frequency heating and differentiated electrode method using filler metal pre-treatment of hot dipping are introduced.

Estimation of buckling and collapse behaviour for continuous stiffened plate under combined transverse axial compression and lateral pressure (조합하중을 받는 연속보강판의 좌굴 및 붕괴거동 평가)

  • Estimation of the buckling and ultimate strength of a continuous stiffened plate subjected to combined transverse compression and lateral pressure is of high importance to ensure the safety of ship structures, particularly for the bottom plating under a deep draft condition For example, bottom plating of bulk carriers is subjected to transverse thrust caused by the bending of double bottom structure and the direct action of pressure on the side shells. Most of experimental tests, theoretical approach and numerical researches have been performed on the buckling and ultimate strength behaviour of plates or stiffened plates under combined compression and lateral pressure. With regard to stiffened panels, however, most of studies have been concerned with the load conditions of combined longitudinal thrust and lateral pressure, while fewer studies have been performed for the combined transverse thrust and lateral pressure. In addition, the previous researches are mainly concerned with an isolated rectangular plate simply supported along the all edges, whereas actual ship plating is continuous across the transverse frames and heavy girders. In the present paper, a series of elastoplastic large deflection FEA on a continuous stiffened plate is performed and then clarify the characteristic of collapse mode and explain the effect of transverse compression.
