A Study on the Factors Concerning Empty Truck Movements (화물자동차 공차통행 발생요인 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a supplement to current freight demand model by analyzing factors that influence the generation of empty truck movements in regional and urban realms. To achieve this, we examined the relation between the number of empty truck trips and various generators such as truck attributes, origin type and attributes, destination type and attributes, and commodity type. We structured the ordered logit model using 2011 Korea Transport Database (KTDB) data to analyze the generator characteristic of empty truck movements in regional and urban settings. According to the results, the characteristics of regional and urban empty truck movements differed depending on truck attributes, origin type and attributes, destination type and attributes, and commodity type.

A Study on the Factors Concerning Non-Work Trip of the Elderly People : A case of Seoul Metropolitan Area (고령자의 비업무통행에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석: 수도권 사례를 중심으로)

  • This research explores different non-work trip characteristics between the elderly group (65+) and the working age group (20-64) using heteroscadastic ordered logit model. The analysis is based on travel survey data of Seoul Metropolitan area in 2006. The results show that age induces heteroscadasticity and the model provides a better fit than ordered logit model. The factors increasing the number of non-work trip of the elderly were driver's license and household income. Conversely, the number of non-work trips decreased in those groups that were male, with a job, in aging, and with the number of preschool children. The factors having opposite effects (increased the number of non-work trips in the working age groups and decreased in the elderly group) between the elderly group and working age group were age and job.

  • Short Abstract: This study investigates the effects of price and other variables on consumers' purchasing decision for eco-friendly foods. This study pays particular attention to the effect of price that may influences consumers' decision to buy eco-friendly foods. The empirical findings are summarized as follows. First, the descriptive results of the survey show that "detailed explanation for the products," "distribution channel," "reliability of the labeling for eco-friendly foods" are more important than price and other factors. Second, the ordered logit analysis vindicates that such situational factors as number of children and existence of patient in the family are the most important variables to explain the degree of satisfaction level when considering the price level of eco-friendly foods. Finally, the results of the conjoint analysis indicate that consumers regard distribution channel as the most important factor, and reliability of labeling system and level of price position second and third, respectively. The present study concludes with suggesting some policy implications and directing future studies.

  • The purpose of the study is to analyze the travel characteristics of freight trucks in metropolitan areas, focusing on activity generation, destination choice, and trip chaining behaviors. The results showed that the number of service companies at departure areas has a primary influence on the activity generation pattern and destination choice behavior of trucks in metropolitan areas. The number of trips within a trip chain is largest, in case where the prevailing industry in destination areas is wholesale or retail and the shipment item is food or beverage. These results imply that for the reasonable estimation of truck travel demand both the trip chaining behaviors and the industrial compositions in departure and destination areas should be separately considered for each type of commodity.

Inter-and Intragenerational Occupational Mobility in Korea (도시취업자의 세대간 직업이동과 세대내 이동)

  • Using panel data (KLIPS) we examine the relation between respondents' occupation and their fathers' occupation. We divide the urban employed into four subgroups according to their occupation: employer, self-employed, white collar worker and blue collar worker. We find that the effects of fathers' occupation on respondents' occupation are mediated by the level of respondents' education. The effects of respondents' initial occupation on their current occupation are also significant. In terms of the extent of mobility, we can rank the occupational groups as follows: employer, upper layer of self-employed, white collar worker, lower layer of self-employed and blue collar. In order to encourage occupational mobility, we should level the opportunity of education among different occupational groups.

  • With an explosive growth of internet and a change of consumer's demand, Post PC is emerging as a substitute for the existing desktop computer and laptop computer. Post PC is a new computer which is portable with wireless networking, cheaper than the existing PCs and specialized in the specific function that consumers want. Furthermore, the shape and the ability of Post PC are dependent on its specific function. The rudimentary Post PCs such as PDA, web-pad and smart-phone are already usable. And in the future, owing to the progress of technologies, the heterogeneity of relate companies and the low entry barrier, various Post PCs will be developed. In this paper, we analyze consumers' willingness-to-pay for Post PC with the attributes such as the portability, the speed of CPU, the data input method (using key board, or notepad etc), the size of monitor and price. To estimating consumers' willingness-to-pay for the attributes of Post PC, we apply a contingent ranking method, which makes the respondents rank hypothetical Post the portability, the speed of CPU, the data input method (using key board, or notepad etc),the size of monitor and price. Using the estimated willingness-to-pay, we predict the shape and the ability of future's Post PC and draw policy implications for the national and company level R&D strategies.

The Comparison Between Regional and Urban Truck Movement Characteristics (지역간과 대도시 화물자동차 통행발생 특성 비교)

  • this study is to deduct the difference between regional and urban commercial trips by analyzing the characteristics of the regional and urban truck movements. To achieve this, we investigated the relation between the number of truck trips and various truck generation attributes such as truck attributes, origin and destination attributes, and commodity type using ordered logit models, which are separately estimated for regional and urban truck movements using truck diary data of Korea Transport Database (KTDB). According to the estimation results, regional and urban truck movements have different characteristics in truck attributes, origin and destination attributes and commodity type. Especially, the number of regional trucks trips increased as origin and destination are manufactural area and as the total value of products of industrial area in origin and destination increase.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the determinants of the effectiveness in food safety policy, focusing on the perception of consumers. For this, we apply ordered logit analysis using "The Survey on the Attitudes towards Food Safety Policy" data investigated by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism & Ministry of Food, and Drug Safety. According to the results of the analysis, policy literacy has a significant positive impact on the effectiveness of the policy. Trust has a positive impact on the effectiveness of the policy significantly. In addition, the results show that sensitivity has a significant negative impact on the effectiveness perceived by consumers. This study imply that the government should give more information about policies and make an effort to gain trust on food safety policy.

The Factors Affecting the Level of awareness of Life and Happiness Perceived by Youth Generation (청년세대 삶의 인식 수준과 행복도의 영향요인)

  • In this study, we examined at what level young people perceive their level of life and the overall degree of happiness in their lives, and empirically analyzed the factors affecting them through multiple regression and ordered logit models. As a result of the analysis, young people were more aware of the degree of overall happiness than their perception of their lives. It has been confirmed that the factors affecting the young generation's perception of the level of life and the degree of happiness are different and different factors are working on each group. In addition, it has been found that the subjective factors of psychological and emotional characteristics have a greater influence than the objective factors of social and demographic characteristics at the level of awareness of life and happiness level. However, in the case of the youth group, it was found that objective factors such as job satisfaction are the determinants that have the greatest influence on life awareness and happiness. The tendency to paradoxically respond to the current level of happiness due to despair of the future has been found to be seen in some subgroups(middle income plus working group) rather than in the whole youth generation.

A Comparative Study on Precarious Labor Market in Korea and Japan: Gender and Occupational Division of Precarious work (한국과 일본의 불안정노동시장 비교연구: 불안정노동의 젠더적·직업계층적 분절)

  • This study compares and analyzes precarious labor market in Korea and Japan in terms of gender and occupational class. Previous studies have analyzed precarious labor limited to the level of employment type such as non-standard workers. This study reconceptualizes precarious labor in terms of the combination of employment relations and income level. In addition. we analyzed whether there are differences in the characteristics of precarious labor between Korea and Japan. In order to analyze the labor market precariousness in Korea. we used data from the 17th Korea Labor Panel Survey (2014) and for Japan. we used the 9th (2012) data from the Keio Household Panel Survey. As a result. we could confirm the feminization of labor market precariousness and horizontal division by occupation in both Korea and Japan. Also. ordered logistic regression analysis showed that the more women. and those in their 60s or older. the less skilled service workers. or the manufacturing workers are likely to face labor market instability in both Korea and Japan. The results of this analysis reflect the fact that Korea and Japan have experienced similar changes in the labor market structure with institutionalized employment protection system based on male workers.
