Studies on the Zanthoxylum piperitum $D_E$ $C_{ANDOLIE}$ - 1. Pungent principles and Essential oil composition - (천초(川椒)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) - 1. 신미성분(辛味成分)과 정유성분(精油成分) -)

  • The Pungent principles and Essential oil compositions of Zanthoxylum piperitum $D_E$ $C_{ANDOLIE}$(peel, barb) were analysed by HPLC and GC, respectively. Total Pungent principle contents of peels were about as 12 times as those of barks. The Sanshool I, Sanshool IV, Sanshool III and Sanshoo V were the major Pungent principles in the peels and barks. Besides, several Unknown Pungent principles were discovered in the peels and barks, too. Total Essential oil contents of peels were higher than those of barks at the ratio of 1.8 % to 0.5%. The Cineol+Limonene(37.7%) were the main Essential oil compositions in the peels, while ${\alpha}-Terpineol(16.5%)$ and Pinene(15.5%) were the major portion in the barks. The Essential oil of peels and barks were composed Pinen, Myrcene, Cineol+Limonene, Linalool, Isopulegol, Terpinen-4-ol, ${\alpha}-Terpineol$ and Piperitone. Besides, seven Unknown compositions were discovered, too.

Influence of Curing Conditions on Volumetric Changes in Concrete (양생 조건이 콘크리트의 체적 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper presents the experimental results on volumetric changes in ordinary portland cement concrete made with various water-to-cement ratios(W/C's) ranging from 0.32 to 0.50 and cured in low different conditions. Curing regimes employed in this work were designed to exhibit autogenous and drying shrinkage as well as swelling of concrete. The concrete avoided any moist evaporation(Regime f showed only autogenous shrinkage and the lower the W/C, the feater the autogenous shrinkage. The concrete exposed to air drying conditions at $20{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and $60{\pm}3%$ RH after 6-day water curing at $20{\pm}1^{\circ}C$(Regime II) swelled and then started to shrink. The maximum swelling value of concrete developed in water curing was between 15 and $40{\pm}10^{-6}$, and the greatest total shrinkage(autogenous+drying shrinkage) was obtained for the mixture made with W/C of 0.32. The concrete let to air drying conditions(Regime III) showed greater total shrinkage compared to the concrete cured in Regime II. The concrete exposed to air drying condition after 6-day sealed curing(Regime IV) exhibited slightly smaller total shrinkage than that of the concrete cured in Regime III. Net drying shrinkage that can be derived from the results of Regime I, III, and IV increased as the W/C increased despite of similar total shrinkage. This result indicated that drying shrinkage governs total shrinkage of high-W/C concretes. In other words, a portion of autogenous shrinkage in total shrinkage increased in low-W/C concretes. Therefore, it should be controlled in terms of cracking potential. Finally, total shrinkage of high-strength and high-performance concrete made with low W/C can be effectively reduced by appropriate early moisture curing.

Effects of Unripened Cheese Supplements on Lipid and Antioxidant Status in Hypercholesterolemic SD Rats (고콜레스테롤혈증 흰쥐에서 비숙성치즈의 보충섭취가 지질 및 항산화 체계에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of unripened cheese supplements on lipid metabolism and antioxidant status in hypercholesterolemic SD rats. Rats were induced to have hypercholesterolemia by feeding them high cholesterol diet (0.5% cholesterol and 0.2% sodium cholate) for 4 weeks and then divided into 2 groups. One group was fed a high cholesterol diet with 5% unripened cheese (URC) daily for 6 weeks, and the other one was fed a high cholesterol diet without 5% unripened cheese (URC) daily for 6 weeks. Significantly-increased plasma total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and AST activity because of the high-cholesterol diet were reduced 18.8%, 40.5%, and 33%, respectively, by URC supplementation. Also, URC lowered hepatic total lipids, TCs, and TGs, whereas fecal lipid profiles were not changed by URC. The supplementation of URC resulted in an increase of plasma retinol and ${\alpha}$-tocopherol by 40.5% and 39.2% and leukoytic DNA resistance to oxidative stress by 52.3% compared to hypercholesterolemic control. These results suggest that unripened cheese supplements could exert significant health benefits to those with hypercholesterolemia through ameliorating lipid profiles and antioxidant effects.

Clinical Significance of Subdividing Gastric Cancer according to the Degree of Invasion of the Muscularis Propria (근층 위암 세분류의 임상적 의미)

  • Purpose: Some gastric cancer patients in whom the cancer has infiltrated up to the muscularis propria (mp) have a good postoperative course similar to that of early gastric cancer (EGC) patients (this does not match the general classification of gastric cancer). Therefore, we performed a retrospective analysis of 125 patients with mp gastric cancer based on the degree of mp invasion. Materials and Methods: The clinicopathologic features of 125 cases of mp gastric cancer were subdivided according to depth of invasion, and were retrospectively reviewed and compared with the surgical features of 222 patients with gastric cancer invading the submucosa (sm). For each tumor, using the section that showed the greatest extent of invasion, we evaluated the degree of tumor invasion into the mp layer at a magnification of $\times$100. The patients were classified into 2 groups: mp1, the tumor was limited to the first of the 3 mp layers, and mp2, the tumor had expanded beyond the first layer. Results: Patients with mp1 (n=50) had a significantly lower incidence of lymph node metastasis, and a smaller tumor size than patients with mp2 (n=75) (P=0.01 and P=0.029, respectively). The 5-year survival rate of mp1 patients was significantly better than that of mp2 patients ($95.3\%\;vs.\;77.6\%$, P=0.0282), but was similar to that ($91.2\%$) of the 222 sm patients. The 5-year survival rate of mp patients without lymph node metastasis (n=55) was significantly better than that of those with lymph node metastasis (n=70)($93.3\%\;vs.\;78.2\%$, P=0.0192). Patients with mp1 had a significantly higher incidence of lymph node metastasis ($42.5\%\;vs\;23\%$, P=0.006) than patients with sm. Conclusion: There were clear differences in clinical features between the mp1 and the mp2 patients. Subdivision of mp gastric cancer according to the depth of invasion may enable a more precise prognosis and a more pertinent treatment plan for mp patients. In particular, as the clinicopathological findings and surgical outcomes for mp1 patients were akin to those of the sm patients, mp1 patients may require treatment analogous to that administered to patients with sm gastric cancer. Reduction of Visceral and Body Fats in Mice by Supplementation of Conjugated Linoleic Acid with γ-Oryzanol (Conjugated linoleic acid와 γ-oryzanol 혼합물의 생쥐 체지방 및 복부지방 감소 효과)

  • The synergistic effect of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and $\gamma$-oryzanol (OZ) on the reduction of visceral and body fats was investigated in mice. Female ICR mice, 10 weeks of age, were acclimated for one week and then randomly divided into 5 treatment groups by body weights: Control (70 ${\mu}l$ olive oil + 30 ${\mu}l$ CLA), CLA-OZ 1 (70 ${\mu}l$ olive oil + 30 ${\mu}l$ CLA + OZ 0.5 mg), CLA-OZ 2 (70 ${\mu}l$ olive oil + 30 ${\mu}l$ CLA + OZ 1.0 mg), OZ (100 ${\mu}l$ olive oil + OZ 1.0 mg), and Olive oil (100 ${\mu}l$ olive oil). Samples were daily intubated, p.o., for 4 weeks. Food and water were ad libitum. Four weeks later, mice were sacrificed by neck dislocation, followed by measuring whole body weight, empty carcass weight (ECW), which is weight without organs and visceral fats, visceral fats, body fats and protein content. Mice treated with CLA (control) sample maintained significantly, p<0.05, lower whole body weight, ECW, visceral and body fats, relative to mice treated with olive oil sample, indicating that CLA reduces the visceral and body fats. The CLA-OZ 1 treatment significantly reduced, p<0.05, visceral and body fats as compared to OZ treatment, but not significantly different from control treatment.Meanwhile, CLA-OZ 2-treated mice maintained significantly, p<0.05, lower visceral and body fats than control and OZ-treated mice. Protein contents in mice were not affected by any other treatments. These results suggest that OZ enhanced the reduction of visceral and body fats in mice by CLA.

Phase Equilibria of Ionic Liquid/Organic Compound/Supercritical CO2 Systems (이온성액체/유기화합물/초임계이산화탄소계의 상평형)

  • The volume change of an ionic liquid and the phase separation behavior of room temperature ionic liquid(RTIL)/organic compound mixture in supercritical carbon dioxide were measured in a high pressure view cell. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][$PF_6$]) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([bmim][$BF_4$]) was used as ionic liquid(IL). and methanol and dimethyl carbonate were used as organic compound. For a fixed amount of [bmim][$PF_6$] the lower critical endpoint (LCEP) pressure, where the liquid phase is split, decreased as increasing the amount of organic compound. The LCEP pressure became higher as the water content of ionic liquid was higher. However, for water contents above a certain value, no LCEP was formed. LCEP appeared 1.0 MPa higher for a mixture with [bmim][$BF_4$] than with [bmim][$PF_6$]. There was almost no difference in the K-point pressures for different types of ionic liquid and for different amounts of organic liquid. When the concentration of ionic liquid([bmim][$PF_6$]) (IL/(IL+MeOH)) in the initial liquid mixture was larger than 5.9 mol% at the LCEP of the mixture, the volume of $L_1$ because larger than the volume of $L_2$. When it was smaller, however, the volume became smaller, too. The volume change of ionic liquid in the presence of carbon dioxide decreased as increasing the temperature, while it increased as increasing the pressure. For temperatures between 313.15 to 343.15K at 300 bar, it was about 123~125 % of the original volume.

Development of an Emergence Model for Overwintering Eggs of Metcalfa pruinosa (Hemiptera: Flatidae) (미국선녀벌레(Metcalfa pruinosa) (Hemiptera: Flatidae) 월동난 부화 예측 모델 개발)

  • The temperature-dependent development of Metcalfa pruinosa overwintering eggs was investigated at ten constant temperatures (12.5, 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5, 30, 32.5, and $35{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, Relative Humidity 20~30%). All individuals collected before April 13, 2012 failed to develop into first instar larvae. In contrast, some individuals that were collected on April 11, 2013 successfully developed when reared under $20{\sim}32.5^{\circ}C$ temperature regimes. The developmental duration was shortest at $30^{\circ}C$ (13.3 days) and longest at $15^{\circ}C$ (49.6 days) in the fourth collected colony (April 26 2013). Developmental duration decreased with increasing temperature up to $30^{\circ}C$ and development was retarded at high-temperature regimes ($32.5^{\circ}C$). The lower developmental threshold was $10.1^{\circ}C$ and the thermal constant required to complete egg overwintering was 252DD. The Lactin 2 model provided the best statistical description of the relationship between temperature and the developmental rate of M. pruinosa overwintering eggs ($r^2=0.99$). The distribution of the developmental completion of overwintering eggs was well described by the 2-parameter Weibull function ($r^2=0.92$) based on the standardized development duration. However, the estimated cumulative 50% spring emergence dates of overwintering eggs were best predicted by poikilotherm rate model combined with the 2-parameter Weibull model (average difference of 1.7days between observed and estimated dates).

Sugar and starch in leaf-sheaths and internode of Jinheung and IR667 rice under various ripening environments (진흥(振興)과 IR 667의 엽초(葉鞘) 및 절간(節間)의 당(糖) 및 전분함량(澱粉含量)과 등숙환경(登熟環境))

  • According to the content of sugar and starch of each positional leaf sheath and internode at heading and 4 weeks after it using IR667-Suwon 214 (high yielding var. having tropical Indica parantage) and Jinheung (local leading var. temperate Japonica) rice grown in various cultivation seasons the suitability of grouping into the high sugar type (sugar>starch), sugar, tendency (increasing tendency in sugar content), high starh type (starch>sugar) and starch tendency (increasing tendency in starch) in carbohydrate metabolism was reexamined as follows. 1. Sugar tendency appeared strongly in IR667 than Jinheung, internode than leaf sheath, late season cultivation than early season, 4 weeks after than heading and high temperature than low temperature. Thus at heading, leaf sheath and internode of Jinheung in early and late season cultivation were high starch type, and lower internode in early season cultiattion and leaf sheath and internode in late season for IR667 were high sugar type. In very late season all internodes of both varieties except 1st internode of Jinheung at heading were high starch type. At four week after heading all leaf sheaths except 1st and 4th one of Jinheung and all internodes were high sugar type. High sugar type was intensified 4 weeks after heading in leaf sheaths than in internodes of IR667 in early season and of both varieties in late season. 2. The upper three leaf sheaths and internodes seem to work in the same way for carbohydrate translocation. Among them upper ones showed sugar tendency at heading and starch tendency 4 weeks after heading and it was clear in Jinheung. 3. The later the cultivation season, the higher the carbohydrate content (sugar+starch), and such tendency was clear 4 weeks after heading and in IR667, suggesting teanslocation inhibition by low temperature. 4. Grain filling rate (weight increase per day) was more rapid in early season cultivation and IR667 took shorter days to reach maximum rate. 5. The later the cultivation season, the greater the percent contribution of carbohydrate before heading to yield and it was always greater in IR667, a leaf sheath type. 6. Sugar and starch ratio appears to be determined principally by metabolic characteristics of variety according to growth process and secondly but considerably by environmental factors.

Growth and Root Characteristics and P, K Uptake by Soybean under Different Soil Water Conditions (토양(土壤) 수분(水分)의 상태(狀態)가 대두(大豆)의 생육(生育) 및 근계발달(根系發達) 특성(特性)과 P, K 흡수(吸收)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • An experiment was conducted to find out effect of soil water condition on shoot and root growth and P, K uptake by soybean plants. Soybean plants were grown under different soil water table levels, 20cm, 40cm and 60cm below the soil surface using minirhizotron with 20cm in diameter, and well irrigated and water stressed conditions using 1/2000a Waganer pots. Three soybean plants, Paldal culfivar, were grown and sampled at the early growing period, 37 days after planting, and at the harvesing period, 115 days after planting. Shoot and root growth were restricted by water stresed condition and by excessive soil water condition with the 20cm water table. Little difference in shoot and root growth were found between well irrigated condition and 40cm or 60cm water table conditions. The P and K contents in shoot under water stressed condition were higher than well irrigated condition at the early growing period but reversed at later harvesting period. The dry weight and length of roots were more severely restricted by water stress than those of shoots. Root morphological difference was found by anatomical observation. Normal cortex was developed under the well irrigated condition, while abnormal cortex with aerenchyma formed by lysis under excessive water conditions of 20 or 40cm water talbes. Aerenchyma was formed at outer skirt of pericycle. Role of formation of aerenchyma of soybean roots might be an adaptation to excessive soil water condition and possibly related to survival of soybean roots growing under near flooding condition on dikes of paddy lands.

FACTORS AFFECTING THE FORMATION OF SOLUBLE GLUCAN BY LACTOCOCCUS LACTIS 1370 (유산구균 1370의 수용성 글루캔 형성에 영향을 미치는 인자)

  • The water-soluble glucan produced by Lactococcus lactis 1370 affects the formation of dental plaque by Streptococcus mutans. In this study the factors affecting the formation of water-soluble glucan were assessed as the optical density of culture supernatant of Lactococcus lactis 1370 in the spectrophotometer. 1. The optical density of culture supernatant was high when Lactococcus lactis 1370 was cultured in M17 broth with 5% sucrose, while being low in culture supernatant of Streptococcus mutans. 2. The optical density of culture supernatant was higher when Lactococcus lactis 1370 was cultured in M17 broth with 10% sucrose than when being cultured without sucrose (p<0.05), and was higher at pH 7 than pH 5 (p<0.05). 3. The optical density of culture supernatant was the highest at $37^{\circ}C$ among $32^{\circ}C,\;37^{\circ}C\;and\;42^{\circ}C$, and was higher in the anaerobic incubator than in the aerobic incubator (p<0.05). 4. The optical density of culture supernatant was the highest in the media containing 1.0mM $CaCl_2$ (p<0.05), 2.5mM KCl (p<0.05), and 1.6mM $MgCl_2$. 5. When Streptococcus mutans was cultured in the media containing a quarter culture supernatant of Lactococcus lactis 1370 grown in M17 broth, the mean weight of produced artificial plaque was 103.0mg on the wire, whereas being significantly reduced to 5.6mg in the media containing a quarter culture supernatant of Lactococcus lactis 1370 grown in M17 broth containing 5% sucrose (p<0.05). These results indicate that the water-soluble glucan is more formed by Lactococcus lactis 1370 in the media containing sucrose or under the adequate conditions for the growth of bacteria, and inhibits the formation of artificial plaque by Streptococcus mutans.
