  • There is a definite requirement to continuously monitor the operating characteristics of radiation therapy machines. It is advisable to monitor the symmetry, flatness, and energy stability of x-ray beams. The semiconductor system was developed using commercially available rectifier diode for th assessment of quality assurance In radiation therapy, which is capable of the above measurements. The beam characteristics of 6MV, 10MV and 21MV photon of Microtron electron accelerator were measured using seven-diodes as detectors and the results were compared with that of using a film results dosimetry with a X-Y plotter. The seven-diode detetor is versatile enough to be used for checking beam profile, flatness, symmetry and energy.

  • In this paper, We developed a radiation therapy planning system using photon beams. Firstly We accomplished simulation on the regular field. Then it has been modified step by step to handle the irregular field, wedge filter, and inhomogeneous field. This system is equipped with useful user interface and database. This system is implemented in Visual C++ as a window-based application program.

  • This paper presents an optimal design for the SPECT reconstruction filter, based on a physical limit of SPECT lesion detection capability. To increase the performance of the filter on lesion detectability, the filter design was focused on increasing the local SyW ratio of a threshold lesion, that was determined by minimum detectable lesion size (MDU) from SPECT lesion detectabllity contrast-detail curve. The proposed filter showed flexible window characteristics of resolution recovery and noise smoothing for MDLSs in the resolution-limited and photon-limited regions, respectively, compennting for the relative impact of the main limitation factors on threshold detectability. The simulated results showed good adaptability of the proposed filter to the changes in physical parameters of photon counts, object contrast, and detector system resolution.

  • We report highly sensitive detection of myocardial infarction biomarkers, such as myoglobin and cTnI, within several hundred seconds using a rotating-analyzer ellipsometer and a biosensor with biochips fabricated on a $SiO_2$-coated tilted silicon substrate. We choose the running buffer to be pure phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) or 10% mixed human serum. When we choose the running buffer to be pure PBS, we obtain diagnostic densities of pure myocardial infarction biomarkers of up to 1 ng/ml and 5 pg/ml respectively. Meanwhile, when we use PBS with 10% human serum, the measured densities of myoglobin and cTnI were up to 1 ng/mL and 1 pg/mL respectively. The measured diagnostic densities are less than 1/15 and 1/80 (in cases of myoglobin and cTnI respectively) of those referenced by the World Health Organization.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the delayed luminescence-biophoton emission from root of Angelica sinensis D., Angelica acutiloba K., and Angelica pubescens M. These three species of Genus Angelica are now imported from other nations into Republic of Korea. Methods : Randomly selected samples from roots of Angelica sinensis D., Angelica acutiloba K., and Angelica pubescens M. were radiated with 150 W metal halide lamp for 1 minute. After radiation. biophoton emissions of each sample were detected by electron multiplication(EM)-charge coupled device camera. The detected biophoton image was calculated with unit of counts per pixel. Results: The average biophoton emissions of delayed luminescence with EM ratio of $\times$150 and $\times$250 were distinguished significantly. The maximum biophoton emissions of delayed luminescence with EM ratio of $\times$250 were distinguished significantly. Conclusions : These results suggest that biophoton imaging of roots of Angelica sinensis D., Angelica acutiloba K., and Angelica pubescens M. could become the meaningful method for the study of differentiation for these three species of Genus Angelica.

  • The authors examined the response of electrocardiogram(ECG) of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus [Linnaeus] to light stimuli. The experiments were performed in such a way that three levels of light stimuli(10, 100 and 400 lu$\chi$) were given to fishes with an electrode inserted into their bodies and then their ECGs were recorded continuously for 60 minutes in 16~18$^{\circ}C$. The results which are divided into by day and by night and then analyzed by fishes' conditions are as follows; 1. Nile tilapias reached a stable condition 3 minutes after anesthesia. In stable condition, the heart rate average was 47.6beat/min by day and 45.1beat/min by night. And the action potential average was 1.0.4$mutextrm{V}$ by day and 1.24$mutextrm{V}$ by night. 2. The heart rate average by three levels of light stimuli was, \circled1 In stimulus condition, in case of 10 lu$\chi$ 39.7beat/min by day and 38.2beat/min by night, in case of 100 lu $\chi$8.7beat/min by day and 36.9beat/min by night, and in case of 40.0. lux 36.8 beat/min by day and 35.8beat/min by night. \circled2 In recovery condition, in case of 10 lu$\chi$ 47.1beat/min by day and 46.0beat/min by night, in case of 100 lu$\chi$ 47.2beat/min by day and 45.6 beat/min by night, and in case of 400 lu$\chi$ 48.1beat/min by day and 46.6beat/min by night. 3. • Purpose: This study investigated the differences between technetium-99m ethyl cysteinate dimer (Tc-99m ECD) and technetium-99m hexamethylpropylene amine oxime (Tc-99m HMPAO) uptake in the normal brain by means of statistical parametric mapping (SPM) analysis. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed age and sex matched 53 cases of normal brain SPECT. Thirty-two cases were obtained with Tc-99m ECD and 21 cases with Tc-99m HMPAO. There were no abnormal findings on brain MRIs. All of the SPECT images were spatially transformed to standard space, smoothed and globally normalized. The differences between the Tc-99m ECD and Tc-99m HMPAO SPECT images were statistically analyzed using statistical parametric mapping (SPM'99) software. The differences bgetween the two groups were considered significant ant a threshold of corrected P values less than 0.05. Results: SPM analysis revealed significantly different uptakes of Tc-99m ECD and Tc-99m HMPAO in the normal brains. On the Tc-99m ECD SPECT images, relatively higher uptake was observed in the frontal, parietal and occipital lobes, in the basal ganglia and thalamus, and in the superior region of the cerebellum. On the Tc-99m HMPAO SPECT images, relatively higher uptakes was observed in subcortical areas of the frontal region, temporal lobe, and posterior portion of inferior cerebellum. Conclusion: Uptake of Tc-99m ECD and Tc-99m HMPO in the normallooking brain was significantly different on SPM analysis. The selective use of Tc-99m ECD of Tc-99m HMPAO in brain SPECT imaging appears especially valuable for the interpretation of cerebral perfusion. Further investigation is necessary to determine which tracer is more accurate for diagnosing different clinical conditions.
