Critical Study on the Discourses of Creative City : Becoming Locality as an Alternative Thinking and Practice (창조도시 담론의 비판 : 생성의 로컬리티 탐색)

  • The discourses of creative city have been developed as a development and rehabilitation policy or plan in the contexts of globalization or deindustrialization society mainly progressed by Western capitalist nations, and there are a variety of effects due to the implementation of creative city in different national and local conditions. Many nations or cities have adapted and practiced the idea of creative city as a policy of development or rehabilitation without its critical examination. The purpose of this study is to make a conceptual framework of newly interpreting creative city, particularly focused on creative industry and class. The framework of creative city as a becoming locality consists of culture and art, creative actor and place continuously interacting, and it will take an active role to solve a variety of problems in the cities or regions due to globalization or deindustrialization. Creative city as a becoming locality should be developed in a close relation with the real situations in the future.

  • Regional communities have recently tried to change themselves in order to cope with rapidly changing circumstances. Giving attention to their strategic responses as well as consequences as a result of their countermeasures, this study attempts to suggest a theoretical framework to analyze the process of locality reconstruction in a dynamic and comprehensive way. To achieve this purpose, after figuring out the previous studies' methodological and theoretical limitations, we suggest that locality should be understood as a outcome of the mutual interactions between local, state, and global scale networks.

  • 인터넷 활용과 웹 어플리케이션의 개발이 증가함에 따라 처리해야하는 데이터의 양도 또한 증가하고 있다. 대량의 데이터를 효과적으로 처리하기 위한 방법 중 하나로 병렬처리 프로그래밍 모델인 맵리듀스가 있다. 하둡은 맵리듀스의 오픈소스 구현으로 대량의 데이터를 병렬로 처리하는 무료 자바 소프트웨어 프레임워크이다. 분산 파일 시스템을 사용하는 하둡에서는 처리하는 데이터가 다른 노드에 위치하는 데이터 로컬리티 문제가 전체 작업 수행시간의 증가를 야기하는 문제가 있다. 본 논문에서는 하둡에서의 데이터 로컬리티 문제를 해결하기 위한 데이터 복제기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 데이터 복제기법에서는 1) 라그랑지 보간법을 사용하여 과거 접근수를 이용한 미래 접근수를 예측하고, 2) 예측된 값을 Threshold값으로 설정하고, 3) 데이터 로컬리티 문제가 발생하였을 때, 복제사본을 생성할 것인지 캐시를 생성할 것인지를 결정하여 복제 사본의 수를 최적화 한다. 실험을 통해 단순히 복제사본 수를 증가시킴으로써 데이터 로컬리티를 향상을 이루어도 작업 완료시간이 감소하는 것이 아니라는 결과를 볼 수 있었고, 오버 런치로 인한 작업 완료시간 증가를 줄이기 위해 데이터 복제사본 수 최적화의 필요성을 확인할 수 있었다.

Reading 'Little Manila' along Daehangno : Exploring the Conceptualization of Transnational Spaces (대학로 '리틀마닐라' 읽기 : 초국가적 공간의 성격 규명을 위한 탐색)

  • The paper attempts to balance the discourses of transnational spaces that have focused on de-territorialization, by emphasizing that transnational spaces are maintained also through re-territorialization. Reviewing the literature of transnational social fields, translocality, multicultural spaces and transnational places, I aim to show the way the main issues from the literature help understand an actually existing transnational space, Little Mania in Daehangno, Seoul. I specifically address the dialectic relation between de-territorialization and re-territorialization, multi-scalar networks, and hybridity of multicultural spaces in interpreting the weekend enclave of Filipinos in Seoul. I argues that Little Manila is a grounded translocality operating through multi-scaled networks of various actors. Furthermore, it is not a unified space where one dominant Filipino identity stands out. Different Filipinos and Filipinas constitute the space imagining different homes. It is also a multicultural space open to other minorities, which suggests the possibility of alternative spatial politics based on co-presence of different 'Others'.

A Semantic Study on the Soundscape of the Historic Downtown of Daejeon - Focusing on the Bells of Daeheung-dong Cathedral and Enhang-dong Sungsimdang - (대전 원도심 소리풍경에 관한 의미론적 연구 - 대흥동 성당과 은행동 성심당 종소리를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to illuminate the meaning of the soundscapes of two bells, Daeheung-dong Cathedral and Sungsimdang in Eunghang-dong, which are landmarks and attractions in the historic downtown of Daejeon. The study was conducted through field research and recordings, as well as literature studies of related documents and soundscape theory. Daejeon city was developed along with Daejeon Railway Station during the Japanese colonial period in the early 20th century. As the Chungnam Provincial Office moved to Daejeon, Daeheung-dong and Eunhang-dong in Jung-gu, located near Daejeon Station, developed significantly and formed the city centre. As major administrative agencies moved to Seo-gu in the 1990s, the downtown area of Daejeon was on a path of decline, and the decline accelerated with the development of Sejong city. Meanwhile, Daeheung-dong Cathedral and Sungsimdang, founded by refugees during the Korean War, firmly protected the historic downtown area of Daejeon, where the natives left. Daeheung-dong Cathedral, established during the Japanese colonial period, is a local landmark with a history of 100 years in 2019. Sungsimdang, which was created with the backdrop of the Korean War, is also a historical and cultural asset with a history of 60 years and a local landmark selected as the No. 1 tourist attraction in Daejeon. This research, which started from the sound of the bells of Daeheung-dong Cathedral, heard even in the neighboring residential areas, led to the discovery of the bells of Sungsimdang in Eunhang-dong, located across the street. In this paper, the bells of Daeheung-dong Cathedral and Eunhang-dong Sungsimdang have characteristics of soundmarks according to R. Murray Schafer's soundscape sound category. Furthermore, this paper attempted to analyze the meaning of the two bells according to the relatively recent EU soundscape definition. These two bells are signal sounds at the surface level, but are the sound marks of the historic downtown area of Daejeon at the deep level. Although there are outward differences in size, scale, frequency, and famousness, these two bells share a meaning in terms of locality and good influence with the historicity and spatiality of a special relationship. The implication of this study is that the two places should be preserved as local historical and cultural assets not only as visual landmarks but also as sound marks in the urban regeneration or urban development of Jung-gu, Daejeon.
