  • The analysis of the tourist industry in relation to the general industries is of high use as a means to measure an economic effectiveness as the interest in the policy of service industry increases. From the Input-Output Tables of both 2007 and 2008, Inverse Matrix Coefficients, Imports Requirement Coefficients, and Value Added Requirement Coefficients have been derived. As a result of analysis, the main indexes of the industry-related analysis have almost no differences as compared with those of the 1980s. In spite of the reduction in the scope of the tourist industry in this paper, it is estimated that the reason why the above-mentioned result has been derived is that the influence of today's tourist industry grows bigger than that of the past. In the future studies, the agreement on the classification of tourist industry is requested. In addition, all kinds of calculations have to be derived in general, and the general parts of the tourist industry have to be analyzed in details.

  • We estimate $CO_2$ emissions in Korea industry, 1990 and 2000 using a commodity- by-industry IO model ($CO_2$ hybrid IO mode]). Estimated $CO_2$ emissions in industries include both $CO_2$ emissions from direct and indirect consumption. The results show that total $CO_2$ emissions has increased by 51.6 million TC (Tonne of Carbon) from 64.4 million TC in 1990 to 115.5 million TC in 2000. By applying the structural decomposition analysis technique, we decompose change of $CO_2$ emissions in Korea industry between the period 1990~2000. In the decomposition, we figure out two contributing factors, changes in $CO_2$ coefficient and changes in final demand. The latter is further decomposed as growth effects and structural effects. We also estimated each factor's contribution to the changes in $CO_2$ emissions in industries between 1990~2000. The analysis can be used as a useful resource for policy makers in improving the effectiveness of $CO_2$ emissions mitigation policy.

  • Currently Welfare is emphasized and the trend of SOC investment shows downwards slopping. The pattern of SOC investment also changes focusing on railroad as environmental issues are critical. This study analyzes and compares the effects of sectoral SOC investments based on Input-Output Tables published by BOK (Bank of Korea). The production inducement, value-added inducement, and employment inducement effects of each sector SOC, which consist of road, railroad, port, and airport, are investigated. First, in view production inducement, sectoral SOC investments have stronger economic effects than manufacture sector. The investment of port and road show the highest value-added inducement in construction process. The investment of road records the highest employment inducement in construction and operation process. The empirical ananlysis of regional economic effects, using Regional Input-Output Tables, supports these explanation showing almost same results. As synthesizing these results, the SOC stocks have to be invested consistently for long periods. Especially the road investment is inevitable for employment. Which sector of SOC is invested depends on circumstances. If government emphasizes production inducement, railroad is invested. If focuses on value-added inducement, port.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of enterprise R&D investment on inter-industry technology spillover in Korea under the new Normal Era. In order to do this, we tested the effect of production inducement, backward and forward linkage effects, and the effect of technology spillover such as technology intensity effects and technology diffusion effects based on an input-output framework. The results show that the high index industries of the production inducement effect were professional, scientific and technical activities, manufacture of metal products, and general machinery. Some manufacturers of other non-metallic mineral products and transport equipment sectors appeared to have the strong effect of forward and backward linkages that were almost equivalent to high-tech manufacturing industries. In particular, the industries of professional, scientific and technical activities appeared to have the strong effect of both forward and backward linkages. Therefore, we need to drive a strong policy support to higher enterprise R&D investment in the those particular industries not only to increase global competitiveness, but also to widen up the technology spillover effect on other industries.

  • Port industry has achieved a remarkable growth with a help from increase in container shipment and above all, transshipment that reflects international competitive power of Port industry amounts to 36% of the national harbor shipment. Therefore, this study speculates the impact of Port industry on national economy using the inter-industry relation table. As it considers the reason why international competitive power in Port facilities decreased as absence of investment, it is to present an effective investment plan for Port industry. Though Port industry as one of main national key industries play an important role in production of national economy, it has been evaluated as having relatively less importance. And when Port industry is managed independently, relying on foreign countries without improvement, price increase due to improper agreement of foreign enterprises and problems relating to securing safe transportational vehicles will have tremendous impact on national economy. And they should try to create added-value and support re-export of the exported and imported shipment through their processing and packaging by making Port zones bonded area. production of national economy, it has been evaluated as having relatively less importance.
