The purpose of this paper is to analyse the change in the productivity of Korean life insurance industry by Generalized Malmquist productivity indices. Generalized Malmquist indices will be decomposed into three components such as pure efficiency change, scale efficiency change, and technical change. The principal findings indicate an overall increase in productivity driven more by technical progress than pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency.

To build up data for mutation breeding of lily, sensitivity to irradiation of bulb, seed and pollen was investigated. The bulbs of seven cultivars including 'New Wave' were very sensitive to gamma rays. Non-irradiated bulbs produced plants with bloom as normal. However, irradiated bulbs showed retarded growth and did not flower. Bulbs of 'New Wave' and 'Tiny Dino' irradiated with 125Gy gamma rays survived, but their growth rate dropped considerably. Part or whole leaves of the other cultivars except 'New Wave' and 'Tiny Dino' withered. Moisture content of individual scale was 72~78% depending on cultivar. Bulblet formation from untreated scales was 100%. Among all irradiated scales only 'Siberia' scales showed 8.5% bulblet formation when irradiated with 50Gy gamma rays. Pollen germination as affected by gamma ray irradiation had no consistent tendency. When dosage of $F_1$ 'Augusta' seeds reached 300Gy, their survival ratio was drastically decreased. Bulblet formation in vitro was observed only in non-irradiated seeds. Lethal dose ($LD_{50}$) of seed was less than 100Gy. Height and width of $F_1$ 'Augusta' bulblets in vitro irradiated with gamma rays decreased as dosage increased regardless of the culture method. The percentage shoot formation was 100% in non-irradiated bulblets and 15~60% in irradiated ones.

In this study, we carried out a distribution and migration boundary lines of chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) in the Milyang River. We measured the total length of dead chum salmons. As a results, 40 chum salmons were found during the study period, 25 dead salmons and 15 alive individuals. The ratio of female was 64%. We verified the migration boundary lines of chum salmons based on a sighting survey until detecting a structure that chum salmons are not able to migrate upstream. We discovered that chum salmons were not able to migrate up to 13 km in a mainstream of the Milyang River and up to 12 km in the Danjang stream (a tributary of the Milayang River) from upstream of the Yerim Bridge. Therefore, our results indicate that Milyang River should improve a river connectivity by demolishing weirs that disturb chum salmon's migration or installing appropriate fishways. Also, effective legislations are needed to retain naturality in spawning ground and micro-habitats to increase the survival rate of parrs and smolts.

24-hour monitoring is required to maintain the city's lifeline function in the underground facility for public utilities. And it is necessary to develop technology to exchange the shortage of human resources. It is difficult to reflect the specificity of underground space management in general management methods. This study proposes underground facility for public utilities digital twin system requirements. The concept of space is divided into physical space and virtual space, and the physical space constitutes the type and layout of the sensor that is the basis for the construction of the multimodal image sensor system, and the virtual space constitutes the system architecture. It also suggested system functions according to the task. It will be effective in preventing disasters and maintaining the lifeline function of the city through the digital twins.

Houttuynia cordata Thunberg has been studied for a variety of pharmacological actions in traditional oriental medicine. In this study, we investigated the effects of Houttuynia cordata ethanol extract (HCE) on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) models induced by castration and testosterone propionate (TP) injection. Thirty rats were divided into six groups. One group was used as a normal control, and the other groups were castrated and had intraperitoneal injections of TP for 14 days to induce BPH. A positive control group was given daily doses of finasteride (5 mg/kg) to the BPH model. Rats administered HCE (0.5, 1 or 2 mg/kg) instead of finasteride were compared with controls as experimental groups. There was no statistical significance in terms of prostate weight based on 100 g of body weight. The concentrations of 5-α reductase and dehydroxytestosteronre (DHT) were determined via ELISA tests, and there was a significant decrease in all experimental groups. The 0.5 mg/kg HCE group had the lowest level of 5-α reductase, and the 2 mg/kg HCE group had the lowest level of DHT. In the histopathological observation of prostates, the control and the 2 mg/kg HCE groups had normal cell shapes and no swelling. However, in the negative control group and the 1 mg/kg HCE group, the cells were swollen, and the gap between the cells was narrowed. In particular, in the 0.5 mg/kg HCE group, some cells were bursting. Therefore, the administration of more than 2 mg/kg of HCE is suitable to protect against BPH.

This is about studying on the environmental ethics of Taoism mainly based on Taoism's Bioautonomous. Taoism is the most comprehensive thought in the traditional thoughts of East Asia. According to Taoism, every individual bio has its own intrinsic value having nothing to do with the value estimated by human beings since it has Daoxing. Human beings, however, have their own bioautonomous which is different from other individual bio. In Taoism human beings are independent for their lives. They do not depend on nature, but they can control themselves. That is to say, their lives depend not on god but on their own wills. The human beings' bioautonomous includes two different meanings: one is that human beings can use other individual bio as a tool for their eternal youth, and the other is that human beings are the main character of realizing the intrinsic value of universal bio and bringing harmony into each individual bio. In Taoism the harmony of universal bio is considered as the top value. Realizing the value of human beings is based on keeping harmonious order of universal bio and realizing the value of other individual bio. the environmental ethics of Taoism is not Biocentrism. Biocentrism argues that each individual bio has teleological center of life, which pursues its own good in its own way, and possesses equal members of Earth's community. As a result, human beings role and responsibility was reduced. But Taoism insists on human beings' bioautonomous. And human beings should be responsible for universal bio's harmony. Therefore the environmental ethics of Taoism is not Biocentrism but Bioautonomous. Bioautonomous environmental ethics of Taoism insists on human beings should be responsible being in relation with other living beings. Because of this point, it can be a theory of biorecovery.

This experiment was designed to improve the production efficiency of germ-line chimeric mice from phospholipase C (PLC)-$\beta$3 or peroxiredoxin (Prx) E -targeted ($\Delta$) ES cells by the investigating the manipulation conditions and characteristics of Jl ES cells. Four targeting clones were isolated to investigate the karyotypical and morphological stability prior to injection. All clones ($\Delta$PLC$\beta$-3 C3, $\Delta$Prx II C3, C10 and I5) showed more than 80% euploidism, however, most of $\Delta$PLC$\beta$-3 C3 clones were extensively differentiated compared to the other clones. Nine of 13 $\Delta$Prx II chimeras appeared to have at least 80% chimerism, whereas $\Delta$PLC$\beta$-3 C3 chimeras had 20% chimerism at most. Therefore, the morphological stability of ES cells under stable euploidism might mainly affect the production rate of high-coat chimeric mice. To increase the collection rate of injectable blastocysts (IBs), 5 to 10 week -aged C57BL/6J female mice were sacrificed at 3.5 days post-coitum. Ten week-aged mice were the most optimal IB donors by showing the highest collection rate (2.94/mouse) of injectable blastocysts without increase of non-injectable embryos (0.29/mouse). Foster mothers might be another factor because ICR x C57BL/6J F1 foster mother showed more increased productivity in litter size (2.8 vs. 5.6) and chimera (0 vs. 35.3%) than those of ICR foster mothers. In conclusion, the efficient production of germ-line chimeras mainly depends on the maintenance of ES cell morphology during targeting procedure, and the establishment of manipulation conditions might be a key point to maximize it.

Prostate cancer is the most predominant cancer in men and related death rate increases every year. Till date, there is no effective therapy for androgen independent prostate cancer. To investigate the mechanism for cell growth inhibition or apoptosis in human androgen independent prostate cancer PC-3 cells after gamma irradiation. The aim of this study was to examine the potential of gamma irradiation to induce apoptosis in PC-3 cells and to assess the mechanism of gamma irradiation-induced apoptosis. Five different assays were employed in this study: cell proliferation assay, morphological assessments of apoptotic cells, DNA fragmentation analysis, quantification of apoptosis by annexin V (AV) and propidium iodide (PI) staning, and western blot analysis. Cell viability was inversely related to radiation dose. DAPI-positive cells were detected 48 hr after 40 Gy radiation exposure. And nuclear morphological changes of cells were observed by gamma irradiation. DNA ladder patterns in the cells exposed to gamma-radiation were appeared at 24 hr. Also, gamma irradiation induces apoptosis of PC-3 cells via Caspase3, Bax and PARP-dependent fashion.
