Effect of the Herbicide Bentazon on Nitrification, and on Numbers of Bacteria and Fungi in the Soil (제초제(除草劑) Bentazon이 질산화작용(窒酸化作用) 및 토양미생물(土壤微生物)의 균수(菌數)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • The effect of bentazon(3-isopropyl-1H-2,1,3-benzothiadiazine-(4)-3H-one-2,2-dioxide) at 50, 200ppm on nitrification of 100ppm applied $NH_4-N$, and on the numbers of nitrite-oxidizing bacteria, and on total bacterial and fungal populations were studied in a soil for six weeks. The herbicide retarded nitrification with increasing its treatment, which was coincident with the decrease of nitrite-oxidinzing bacterial populations. Bentazon treatment in a soil caused the decrease of total bacterial populations and inversely the increase of fungal populations for 2 weeks.

  • In order to investigate the action of thermophilic fungi on the xylan and its related substances, xylanase and laminaranase were examined using Myriococcum albomyces. In the extract from bran culture of Myriococcum albomyces, xylanase and laminaranase activity were recognized. 1) The optimum pH for xylanase and laminaranase activity were found to be pH 5.0 and pH 6.0. 2) The optimum temperature for xylanase and laminaranase activity were found to be $55^{\cicr}C$. 3) Thermal stability of xylanase for 55 minutes at $65^{\cicr}C$ and laminaranase for 60 minutes at $65^{\cicr}C$ did not influence their stability.

  • This research aimed at investigating Kim Gyoshin's recognition on Korean traditional ideology and harmony of Christian idea and traditional idea through the writing and diary in "Bible Joseon". Kim Gyoshin expressed positive interest in Korean traditional idea and traditional religion, and intended to localize Christian belief through communicating with them. He expressed infinite respect for national cultural asset of Buddhism, intending to research Korean Buddhism. He paid utmost attention to Confucianism among traditional ideas. He had a strong affection for learning(好學), benevolence(仁義), conscience(良心) of Confucianism as patriotic character. He calmly practiced caution and solitary(愼獨) of sincere(誠), solemnity(敬) of Confucianism through his life, however he chose Christian belief by accepting atonement belief realizing human sinful nature fundamentally inherent in human being. He personally respected Confucius and lived after the model of him, however he searched the spirit of life to renew the people from Christianity. Academically, he respected Confucius, and believed in Jesus in religion. He highly evaluated the attitude of patriot(志士), which highly regarded the academic attitude of learning(好學) and benevolence(仁義), in this regard, criticized blind and non-intellectual belief. He had an open attitude toward Korean traditional idea with no prejudice. As human individuals have their own inherent moral value, he viewed that each people would have their inherent ethnicity and mission. He considered that Korean Peninsula where contradiction and yoke of the world history are inherent is the center of East Asia that would purify injustice of the world. He viewed that Korean people had owned their original good heart[仁] even before Buddhism and Confucianism had been transmitted to the country. He determined that Korean people were good people, who received goodness from the heaven. However, while Uchimura created Japanese style Christianity by adapting Japanese knighthood to Christian idea, Kim Gyoshin lacked sharp critical mind regarding how to establish Korean style Christianity by adapting which of Korean traditional idea to Christian idea.

  • Caval syndrome is a life threatening condition caused by heavy worm burden in right cardiac chambers including right atrium, right ventricle, and vena cava and results in mechanical interference in tricuspid valvular excursion and blood flow to lower pulmonary arteries. A mechanical worm removal is the choice of option for treating this condition in dogs. In this study, we developed a new mechanical worm removal method using modified extraction brushes for treating dogs with caval syndrome. With this newly developed method, we successfully removed heartworms in two dogs with caval syndrome. Although the number of cases applied was small, authors found this method can be a good alternative retrieval method for mechanical worm removal in dogs.

  • 1. Purification of amylase system produced from Humicola sp. by a submerged culture eras carried out. 2. By DEAE-Cellulose column chromatography amylase system was separated into two fractions eluted at 0.05M and 0.5M phosphate buffer solution of pH 6.0. 3. The saccharogenic amylase was mostly composed of. the fraction of 0.05M phosphate buffer solution of pH 6.0 while the dextrinogenic amylase was perseted in fraction of 0.5M phosphate buffer solution of pH 6.0 4. It was found that the optimum pH of this saccharogenic amylase was within the range of from 4.5 to 5.5, stable pH was within the range of from 4.0 to 9.0 and optimum temperature was $60-65^{\circ}C$. This amylase was stable at $70^{\circ}C$ for ten minutes but completely inactivated $80^{\circ}C$ above.

Bioautonomous environmental ethics of Taoism (도교의 생명주체환경윤리)

  • This is about studying on the environmental ethics of Taoism mainly based on Taoism's Bioautonomous. Taoism is the most comprehensive thought in the traditional thoughts of East Asia. According to Taoism, every individual bio has its own intrinsic value having nothing to do with the value estimated by human beings since it has Daoxing. Human beings, however, have their own bioautonomous which is different from other individual bio. In Taoism human beings are independent for their lives. They do not depend on nature, but they can control themselves. That is to say, their lives depend not on god but on their own wills. The human beings' bioautonomous includes two different meanings: one is that human beings can use other individual bio as a tool for their eternal youth, and the other is that human beings are the main character of realizing the intrinsic value of universal bio and bringing harmony into each individual bio. In Taoism the harmony of universal bio is considered as the top value. Realizing the value of human beings is based on keeping harmonious order of universal bio and realizing the value of other individual bio. the environmental ethics of Taoism is not Biocentrism. Biocentrism argues that each individual bio has teleological center of life, which pursues its own good in its own way, and possesses equal members of Earth's community. As a result, human beings role and responsibility was reduced. But Taoism insists on human beings' bioautonomous. And human beings should be responsible for universal bio's harmony. Therefore the environmental ethics of Taoism is not Biocentrism but Bioautonomous. Bioautonomous environmental ethics of Taoism insists on human beings should be responsible being in relation with other living beings. Because of this point, it can be a theory of biorecovery.

A Christian Answer to the Problem of Suicide in Korean Society (한국 사회의 자살 문제에 대한 기독교적 답변)

  • This paper deals with suicide that has become a serious problem in our society as well as in the world today from a Christian perspective. Historical position regarding suicide is divided into two; some see it as a brave and honorable act and give approval to it, the others view it as act of giving up the life that is given by God and are opposed to it. Though suicides in the Bible are mostly committed to maintain honor, because of Augustin's position it became negative in Christianity, leading to a thought that one who committed suicide goes to hell. Why then people commit suicide? The views of scholars on the cause of suicide are divided into three; biological, psychological, sociological. My position is that though each or all of them contribute to suicide, yet the decisive factor is on how a person reacts to them. Major factor of suicide is how humans as interpretive beings accept the present despair. On the basis of this understanding of suicide and humans, I conclude this paper with three new recognitions as an essential answer to suicide. First, humans are made in God's image and belong to Him, thus their life is precious. Second, Christianity views humans as ones look for the hope in the future as the eternal life. Third, suicide is a violation of the commandment 'do not kill' yet it is not an act of sin but a disease that needs to be cured. To achieve this Christianity must not only spread the idea of respect for life and also run suicide prevention center every city.

수개추락답토양(數個秋落沓土壤)의 사상균군에 대(對)하여

  • A study on fungus flora of 8 paddy field soil samples including 5 AKIOCHI soils has been made. Samples were taken from Chung-nam area. Fungi of 5 Genera and 19 species were identified; Aspergillus, Penicillium, Spicaria, Curvularia, Trichodema, were the 5 genera and the 19 speciec consristed of 4 Aspergilli, 12 Penicilli, and the each one of the others. Variations of fungus flora among those soil samples were noticed without the ecologieal explanation.

  • 태국으로부터 발효원료 수입된 Tapioca chips에 부착된 사상균과 곡자, 공기, 식물의 잎으로부터 적색색소를 생산하는 미생물을 분리하여 그 배양조건을 검토하였다. 분리한 균수는 Eumycetes중 균사에 septa를 가지는 Ascomycetes과의 Monascus sp.로 동정되었다. 최적 적색색소 생산의 배지조성분은 탄소원으로 Tapioca chips powder 3.5%, 질소원으로 $NaNO_3$ 0.2%, amino acid 중 L-arginine, L-glutamic acid, L-proline 0.3%, vitamin 중 folic acid, niacin 1 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mι. 무기염류로 $MnO_2$ 0.001% 첨가가 효과적이었고 배양온도 $32~33^{\circ}C,$ pH 6.5, 배양기간 4일, 배지용량 100/500mι, 진탕배양(180rpm)의 조건하에서 적색색소 생산이 잘 되었다.
