  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the scope of standard color perception for Americans and to compare the differences in color perception between Korean and American undergraduates. Sixty male and fifty-one female American undergraduates were selected as a random sample. Color perception was tested with the naked eyes. Minolta Chroma Meter CR 300 was used for physical measurement of the color. Based on the objective of this study and the data generated the following results were drawn: 1) We found no distinctive difference in color perception by different eye colors. 2) Color perception of American undergraduates is largely classified into four different groups: simple group includes Yellow, Green, Blue, White, Gray, and Black, X(-axis)group includes Yellow Red, Y(-axis)group includes Blue Green, Purple, complex group includes Yellow Red, Purple Blue. 3) The differences in color perception between the two undergraduate groups were found to be significant with four colors: Yellow Red, Green, Blue, and Purple. 4) There is a wide difference between the values of standard color and inn percept color. When undergraduates in both countries were compared, it turned out that Korean students were more accurate than Americans in color perception. 5) American students perceived Red, Yellow, and Green colors relatively correctly, but showed an extremely low degree of accuracy in Blue and Purple Blue color perception.

  • Aging brings color-weakness to the eye due to yellowed eye sight. The 87% of information required for human behavioral decisions are visually perceived. Therefore, the color-weakness will affect behavior in many ways. Most of previous research regarding color planning for the aged focuses on discovering their preferred colors and reflecting the colors on facility color planning. But such research failed to identify the confused range of color cognitions due to the color weakness of the aged. The purpose of this study is to propose a design guide for fee-charging residential facilities for the elderly, reflecting upon color perception characteristics. An experimental simulation on aged vision using the UV filter and Y-2 filter, YA-3 filter alternating for general eyesight, 70 year-old and late 80 year-old was conducted. The results of this study are as follow : color perception is changed by crystalline lens aging process and yellowed eye sight. The recognition arrangement of colors was preferred to contrast harmony rather than similarity harmony and the dominant color is a warm color rather than a cool color.

  • We introduce technique for color transformation of characters between scenes in 2D animation. As colors are perceived differently owing to light source, so character colors like clothes, skin and so on are colored differently owing to atmosphere of each scene. This paper is made an attempt to solve mathematically color assignment of characters which has been worked by hand so far. We can find a matrix for color transformation of characters by appling principle of color stimulus to our algorithm. In scenes of existing 2D animation, basic colors and colors under light source of characters are used for the matrix. And matrixes are obtained for each scenes of 2D animation. If we are known basic colors of some characters, you can derive character colors under other light source environments using the matrix. Therefore, this paper describes automatic color transformation of characters between animation scenes.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of perceiver's fashion involvement, clothing color, and background of object person on image perceptions of clothing, and to examine how clothing color preference vary according to perceiver's fashion involvement. Subjects were 273 college women in the metropolitan area of Seoul. The T-shirt was changed into 11 colors by using the CAD system. Five factors were derived to account for the dimensions of image perception. These were individuality, elegance, femininity, activity, and neatness. Perceiver's fashion involvement gave a significant influence on perception of individuality. Clothing color gave significant influences on 5 image dimensions. White and beige were evaluated neat image. Neatness factor had an interaction effect by fashion involvement and clothing color. The high involvement group evaluated white and beige shirt more neatly, and orange and yellow less neatly than the low involvement group. Individuality and elegance had an interaction effect by fashion involvement and background of object person. The high involvement group liked red, violet, and black shirt more than the low involvement. Refined and becomingness image gave significant influences on clothing color preference in both high and low involvement groups.
