  • Ginger was stored in the 0.05mm and 0.08mm of PE film bags and the styrofoam box. During the ginger storage, weight losses in the PE film bags were effectively supressed than in the control bag, and storage was better in the 0.08mm PE film bag while the spoilage of ginger was higher than in 0.05mm bag. The effective storage temperature was 10$^{\circ}C$ at which was no scouting during the storage. And the perforation in the PE film bag helped the healthy ginger ratio. Single perforation of 6an diameter was good for 0.05mm film and three for 0.08mm film. When CO$_2$absorbent was added into the film bag, the spoilage and mold occurence was lowered. In the styrofoam box, the healthy ginger ratio also increased by incorporating the absorbents, but there were no great differences between activated charcoal and calcium hydroxide.

  • $Zn_{1-x}\;^{57}Fe_xO(x=0.01, 0.02, 0.03)$ compounds were fabricated using the solid-state reaction method. In order to determine magnetic behavior and ionic state of the doped transition metal ($^{57}Fe$) in ZnO, we carried out $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ measurements at various temperatures ranging from 13 to 295 K. $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$spectra for $Zn_{0.97}\;^{57}Fe_{0.03}O$ at 4.2 K have shown the ferromagnetic phase (sextet), but the only paramagnetic phase (doublet) is seen at 295 K. The hysteresis loop below 77 K for $Zn_{0.97}\;^{57}Fe_{0.03}O$ indicated the coexistence of ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases.

  • We determine the Curie temperature of thin gadolinium films by the measurement of magnetization as a function of temperature. From these data, we observe the Curie temperature shift in films from the bulk value, and also see the systematic behavior of this shift with thicknesses of films, that is, the larger the shift is, the thinner the film is. In this paper, we analyze and explain these results in light of finite-size scaling theory.

  • A theoretical expression for determining the effective magnetic moment of hematite(${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$) particle of the parasitic ferromagnetism by the proton relaxation in water is derived. In deriving the expression it is found that the mathematical procedures are exactly the same as those applied for aqueous solutions containing free paramagnetic ions, except that the distance between the proton spin of water molecule and the corresponding electronic spin of the particle must be considered to be a radius vector rather than a relative distance. And it is also found that the average effective magnetic moment of the particle calculated by the expression is in good agreement with the experimental value determined by Hirai.

  • When ordinary sugar is exposed to ionizing radiation, a number of free radical are created in sugar, and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) signal appears from the sugar because of the paramagnetic property of free radical. In this paper, EPR signal intensity has been measured in x-ray irradiated sugar for various absorbed doses, irradiated dose up to 50 Gy. The EPR intensity signals are increased as the x-ray irradiation increases. Also, the fading value decreased to about 3% in 30day after the irradiation. Therefore, the sugar is a useful material for emergency dosimeter as the free radical dosimetry with the EPR equipment.

  • The heat release rate of liquid fuels is estimated by oxygen consumption technique. This method is based on the generalization that the heat release rate of combustion per unit of oxygen consumed are approximately the same for most fuels commonly encountered in fires. The oxygen concentration is measured by analyzer of paramagnetic type. The concentrations of CO2 and CO gas are measured by analyzed of Infra-Rad type. Time delays of analyzers are ignored. Results acqired from measuring techniques of exhaust gas concentrations are compared with each other.

  • The newly developed fertilizer is the slow-releasing fertilizer which can be used as a basal fertilizer without no additional fertilization at tillering stage. It has 30-4-6% of $N-P_2O_5-K_2O$ and was coated with mixture of LDPE (Low density polyethylene), EVA (Ethylene vinyl acetate), BDP (Bio degraded polymer), TALC and nonionic surfactant for the controlled release up to 50 days after application. Coating materials were designed to be decomposed naturally. This fertilizer can be applied directly to the seedling tray mechanically just before transplanting, resulting in significant labor saving effect. The developed slow-release fertilizer, which can replace both basal fertilization and top dressing at tillering stage by single application directly to seedling tray, showed the highest release at 14~21 days after transplanting. Considering the plant growth at different growth stages and yield, the optimal application rate of developed slow-release fertilizer was 300 g per rice nursery tray and the yield of rice at this application rate was 5.25 MT/ha. Rice quality in terms of head rice grain ratio, amylose content, whiteness, and taste value decreased as fertilization rate increased from 200 g to 500 g per nursery tray. Fertilization rate based on quantity of fertilizer ingredients (N, P, K) was reduced by 49.3% compared to the standard application rate and there was 49.2% reduction in labor input for fertilization.

Effect of Spinning Speed on 29Si and 27Al Solid-state MAS NMR Spectra for Iron-bearing Silicate Glasses (시료의 회전 속도가 함철 비정질 규산염의 고상 NMR 신호에 미치는 영향)

  • Despite the utility of solid-state NMR, NMR studies of iron-bearing silicate glasses remain a challenge because the variations in the peak position and width with increasing iron content reflect both paramagnetic effect and iron-induced structural changes. Therefore, it is essential to elucidate the effect of temperature on the NMR signal for iron-bearing silicate glasses. Here, we report the $^{29}Si$ and $^{27}Al$ MAS NMR spectra for $(Mg_{0.95}Fe_{0.05})SiO_3$ and $Fe_2O_3$-bearing $CaAl_2Si_2O_8$ (anorthite) glasses with varying spinning speed to interpret the NMR spectra for iron-bearing silicate glasses. The increase in the spinning speed results in an increase in the sample temperature. The current NMR results allow us to understand the origins of the changes in NMR signal with increasing iron content and to provide information on the dipolar interaction between nuclear spins. The $^{29}Si$ NMR spectra for $(Mg_{0.95}Fe_{0.05})SiO_3$ glass and $^{27}Al$ NMR spectra for $Fe_2O_3$-bearing $CaAl_2Si_2O_8$ glasses show that the peak shape and position of iron-bearing glasses do not change with increasing spinning speed up to 30 kHz. These results suggest that the NMR signal in the Fe-bearing glasses may stem from the 'survived nuclear spins' beyond the cutoff radius from the Fe, not from the paramagnetic shift. Based on the current results, the observed apparent shifts toward lower frequency of Al peak for $Fe_2O_3$-bearing $CaAl_2Si_2O_8$ glasses with increasing $Fe_2O_3$ at all spinning speed (15 kHz to 30 kHz) indicate the increase in the fraction of ${Q^4}_{Al}$(nSi) with lower n (i.e., 1 or 2) with increasing $Fe_2O_3$ and the spatial proximity between Fe and ${Q^4}_{Al}$(nSi) with higher n (i.e., 3 or 4). The present results show that changes in the NMR signal for iron-bearing silicate glasses reflect the actual iron-induced structural changes. Thus, it is clear that the applications of solid-state NMR for iron-bearing silicate glasses hold strong promise for unraveling the atomic structure of natural silicate glasses.
