Application and Verification Trend of COTS PEM Devices in Space Program (우주용 상용 PEM 소자의 적용 및 검증기술 동향)

  • As the system requirements of performance, weight, cost are increasing, the needs of electronic parts which have high performance and efficiency are growing. To satisfy such requirements, demand of high performance and rapid upgraded commercial parts is also increasing compared to NASA or ESA standard parts. Especially, commercial PEM(Plastic Encapsulated Microcircuit) parts are applied in many space programs and research is continuing to broaden its application area. In this paper, concerns and verification trends of commercial PEM parts in space applications are introduced.

  • 위성시스템의 성능 및 무게, 비용 등의 요구조건이 높아지면서 시스템 설계를 위한 고성능, 고효율의 전기전자부품이 요구되고 있다. 이런 요구를 충족하기 위하여 NASA나 ESA에서 사용하고 있는 고 신뢰성과 안전성에 바탕을 둔 기존의 표준소자에 비해 신기술과 고성능으로 빠르게 업그레이드되고 있는 상용부품의 수요가 증가하고 있다. 특히 상용집적소자인 PEM은 많은 우주프로그램에서 사용되고 있고 그 영역을 넓히기 위한 연구가 계속되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 우주 프로그램에 사용하기 위한 상용 PEM소자의 고려사항과 검증동향에 대해 소개하고자 한다.

Study on predicting the commercial parts discontinuance using unstructured data and artificial neural network (상용 부품 비정형 데이터와 인공 신경망을 이용한 부품 단종 예측 방안 연구)

  • Advances in technology have allowed the development and commercialization of various parts; however this has shortened the discontinuation cycle of the components. This means that repair and logistic support of weapon system which is applied to thousands of part components and operated over the long-term is difficult, which is the one of main causes of the decrease in the availability of weapon system. To improve this problem, the United States has created a special organization for this problem, whereas in Korea, commercial tools are used to predict and manage DMSMS. However, there is rarely a method to predict life cycle of parts that are not presented DMSMS information at the commercial tools. In this study, the structured and unstructured data of parts of a commercial tool were gathered, preprocessed, and embedded using neural network algorithm. Then, a method is suggested to predict the life cycle risk (LC Risk) and year to end of life (YTEOL). In addition, to validate the prediction performance of LC Risk and YTEOL, the prediction value is compared with descriptive statistics.

  • As a concept that commercial parts are applied to weapon systems, Commercial Off-The-Shelf(COTS) was not well-received at a time when defense technology led commercial technology. However, the exponential growth of IT and the rapid expansion of commercial industry have made possible to make the cost low through mass production system within a short period, and the benefit of cost and schedule has been highlighted, triggering commercial parts to be applied to weapon systems. In order for commercial technology to be used in defense weapon systems, its performance in an extremely restricted condition of combat environment should be guaranteed. Generally, commercial parts have fundamental limitation in that the design and production requirements for commercial parts are different from those for the military. Therefore, it is required to confirm that commercial parts can be used for weapon systems through the approach of system engineering. This study presents the process tailored to characteristics of marine defense system and the method of analyzing its restricted condition in order to apply COTS to marine defense system. The study classifies the restricted conditions into general and special environments, suggests detailed process, and suggests useful tools to select appropriate items adapted to these restricted conditions in the commercial market. Lastly, as a case study for COTS applied to marine defense system, the study finds out the analysis results of application of COTS and restricted conditions of the warship electric system.

  • The standardization of weapon system parts is one of the elements of parts management and is an important factor for reducing the cost of acquiring and maintaining a weapon system, enhancing its reliability, improving interoperability, alleviating parts obsolescence problems, improving logistics efficiency, and strengthening the military's combat readiness. This study examined how to manage parts of domestic R&D weapon systems, overseas imports weapon system parts, and various commercial parts from a standardization perspective, and to study parts management methods for standardizing parts in the future. This system was used to achieve systematic part standardization in a military weapon system. To this end, this study investigated what elements are used to standardize weapon system parts. The importance and weight of each element were calculated using the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process), one of the decision-making techniques, and the design stage standards using the part selection method were studied. Through this, the selection process of standard parts, which has been made according to the experience and subjective judgment of designers and personnel, was improved to propose a systematic and objective method of standardizing weapons parts.

저궤도 인공위성 탑재 보안모듈의 우주방사선 차폐 방안 연구

  • 뉴스페이스 시대가 도래하고 양자컴퓨터로 기존 암호체계의 파훼가 수월해진 오늘날 인공위성의 보안모듈은 고성능의 상용 부품을 필요로 한다. 본 연구에서는 PE와 Al의 복합소재를 활용하여 내방사선 능력이 적은 상용 부품을 사용한 인공위성 탑재 보안모듈의 차폐 방안을 제시하였다. 기존의 Al 단일 소재로 제작된 차폐 하우징의 성능과 경제성을 개선하기 위해 PE와 Al의 복합소재를 연구하였다. 이를 위해 OMERE를 통해 저궤도 위성의 임무 환경을 분석하여 PE와 Al 복합소재의 우주방사선 차폐성능과 Al 단일 소재의 우주방사선 차폐성능을 PHITS와 SRIM을 이용하여 비교분석하였다. 연구 결과, PE와 Al의 복합소재를 활용한 차폐 하우징은 가볍고 경제적인 장점을 가지며, 성능도 크게 향상됨을 확인하였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 보안모듈에 한정되지 않고 위성 부품의 차폐에 새로운 가능성을 제시함으로써, 전반적인 우주산업 발전과 위성의 임무 수행 실패율 감소에 기여할 수 있다.

Technology Trend of Powder-Metallurgical Aluminum Parts (알루미늄 분말야금부품의 기술동향)

  • 알루미늄 분말야금부품은 철계 분말부품에 비해 가볍고 알루미늄 주조부품에 비해 우수한 기계적 물성을 갖는다. 단, 상대적으로 비싼 가격이 이 부품의 응용을 제약하는 장벽이었으나 최근의 환경과 에너지 문제에 대한 세계적인 관심은 이를 극복할 수 있는 계기를 제공하고 있다. 선진국은 이미 일본을 중심으로 1990년대부터 알루미늄 분말부품에 대한 기술개발을 진행하였고 현재는 다양한 상용 부품을 판매하고 있으며 조만간 그 판매량이 크게 증가할 것으로 예상된다. 이에 이 글에서는 국내 관련 연구자들의 이해를 돕고자 알루미늄 분말야금부품의 국내외 기술개발 동향, 특허 동향, 원재료 동향 등을 분석하여 소개한다.

Character Recognition System for the Components Used in Industry by the Information of Their Images (영상정보에 기반한 산업용 부품 문자 인식 시스템)

  • In this paper, we developed a character recognition system which could be applied to the automation of construction assembling, and testing process of components by the recognition of characters on the components used in industry department. In this system the image information of each component was caught by the CCD camera and then characters on the images were recognized automatically. If we apply the system to the industrial field it will meet the various requirements such as high productivity, low cost and high qualify products and factory automation.

Study on Recycling of Air filter PET/PP mixed Plastics from Automobiles (자동차(自動車) Air Filter PET/PP 혼합(混合) 폐(廢)플라스틱의 재활용(再活用)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • Using the post-consumer waste and edge scrap mixed PET with small amount PP air filter elements of automobiles. It was studied that these mixed waste plastics of the various types of the PET were practicable for the material recycling. Various waste PET/PP plastics were collected, crushed, dried in vacuum, and extruded to recycled PET/PP chips. These chips were mixed with three kinds compatibilizers, EVA, MBS, and recycled PVB of the ratio of $3{\sim}10wt.%$ for the purpose of the compatibility for the post-consumer waste and edge scrap. We investigated mechanical and thermal properties of PET/PP mixtures which were compound with the weight ratio of compatibilizers. Compatibilizer, MBS application was showed the most excellent mechanical properties in the range of the $3{\sim}5wt.%$ EVA application was displayed good impact strength and thermal property in the range of $3{\sim}5wt.%$ Last, recycled PVB application was showed poor mechanical properties in the whole range ratio of the PVB.

Logic implementation of HDB3 Codec (HDB3 Codec의 로직 구현)

  • The HDB3 code, a type of line code, is a data coding method used for digital data transmission. It is used to remove the DC wander on the transmission line which occurs when the DC component data is transmitted continuously. The military tactical communication network uses HDB3 code for data transmission and develops equipment using commercial HDB3 Codec IC. Because it is operated for more than 10 years due to the characteristics of military equipment, if a failure occurs in the equipment, the equipment can not be repaired due to the discontinuance of the part, so that the entire equipment may not be used. In this paper, we implement the HDB3 Codec as a logic to solve this problem and verify that the performance is equivalent to that of commercial parts.
