After 800 students of Chonbuk National University was examined, 86 people (male : 43, female : 43, mean age : 22.2 years old) was selected as a group of normal occlusion. From their gypsum cast, this conclusion was obtained. 1. Intra-observer measurement errors in buccolingual diameter, maxillary lateral incisors have somewhat bigger errors. In mesiodistal diameter, maxillary first molars and maxillary second molar have bigger numerical value. Mean errors of measurement are 0.051mm at buccolingual diameter of crown and 0.083mm at mesiodistal diameter. 2. Fluctuating asymmetry is 0.030 average in buccolingual diameter, and 0.037 average in mesiodistal diameter. Statistically there are no big differences. 3. Male has longer buccolingual diameter than female in every permanent teeth. Teeth which have statistical difference in buccolingual diameter are maxillary lateral incisor, maxillary canine, maxillary second molar, mandibular central incisor, mandibular canine, mandibular second premolar, and mandibular first molar. In mesiodistal diameter maxillary central incisor, maxillary canine, and mandibular first molar have statistically difference. 4. Tooth which has the biggest difference depending on gender is maxillary lateral incisor in buccolingual diameter and mandibular canine in mesiodistal diameter. 5. Both sexes have similar crown index. Male has bigger value of crown module measurement and crown area measurement in every tooth. Crown area considered as size of tooth from occlusal surface was bigger in male than in female statistically except some teeth, maxillary first premolar, mandibular lateral incisor, first premolar and second premolar.
This study was performed to locate the anteroposterior position of the center of resistance of upper anterior teeth when intrusive forces are acted on them by applying segmented arch mechanics. Three-dimensional finite element model of upper six anterior teeth, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone was constructed The locations of the center of resistance were compared according to the three variables, which are number of teeth contained in anterior segment, axial inclination of anterior teeth, and degree of alveolar bone loss. The following conclusions were drawn from this study; 1. When the axial inclination and alveolar bone height were normal, the locations of center of resistance of anterior segment according to the number of teeth contained were as follows; 1). In 2 teeth segment, the center of resistance was located in the distal area of lateral incisor bracket 2) In 4 teeth segment, the center of resistance was located in the distal 2/3 of the distance between the brackets of lateral incisor and canine. 3) In 6 teeth segment, the center of resistance was located in 3mm distal of canine bracket, which is interproxirnal area. between canine and 1st premolar. 4) As the number of teeth contained in anterior segment increased, the center of resistance shifted to the distal side. 2. As the labial inclination of incisors increased, the center of resistance shifted to the distal side. 3. As the alveolar bone loss increased, the center of resistance shifted to the distal side.

Upper and lower cuspids are very important teeth in point of function as well as esthetic. However, failure of eruption of the canine sometimes happens and is frequently encountered clinical problems. Upper cuspids are more frequently impacted as compared with lower cuspis and palatally impaction is more frequent event than labially impaction. Impaction of the mandibular canine is unusual event, especially crossing the midline (transmigration) is very rare. Because of, in most cases, there is no signs and symptoms, impacted teeth can be detected by periodic radiograph examination. The etiology of impaction is unclear and multifactorial. The treatment of impacted canine is influenced by presence of obstacles, location and direction of impaction, space for alignment and development of root. There are several treatment options; (1) Surgical removal and/or observation, (2) Window opening and orthodontic traction, (3) Autotransplantation. The first patient (impaction of upper right cuspid) is treated with window opening and orthodontic traction. The second patient (bilaterally impaction of lower cuspids) is treated with autotransplantation, because of transmigration.

The impacted teeth were surgically exposed by the closed-eruption technique and orthodontically retracted. The subject of this study are 24 patients(Mx. insiors; 10 Mx. canines; 14) who finished their treatment. The periodontal condition of the impacted teeth and the normally erupted proximal and opposed teeth were compared and analysed. The results are the followings ; 1. When the gingival index, plaque index, pocket depth and attached gingiva in periodontal evaluation were compared, there was no significant difference between the study group and the control group (P>0.05). 2. When the alveolar bone support of the mesial and the distal surface of the maxillary central incisors and proximal teeth was compared, there was no significant difference between the study group and the control group (P<0.05). 3. When the alveolar bone support of the maxillary canines was compared, there was no significant difference between the retracted teeth and the normally erupted teeth(P>0.05). The results above showed that the surgical exposure by closed-eruption technique followed by the orthodontic retraction of the impacted teeth has a positive influence on the regeneration of gingival tissue in clinical practice and is esthetically more stable. And it is considered that the clinicians should give attention to the direction of retraction power and the maintenance of normal shape of the alveolar bone in treatment of maxillary central incisors.
The purpose of this study was to find the difference of stress distribution on canine altered by the application point of preangulated T-loop spring. For this study, the finite element models of upper left canine, upper left second premolar and upper left first molar were made. Also, the finite element models of $0.017{\times}0.025$ inch preangulated, preactivated T-loop spring and $0.018{\times}0.025$ inch stainless steel wire were made. Three types of T-loop spring were made . the middle of activated T-loop is positioned in accordance with the middle position of distance of bracket position of both the canine and first molar, 2mm anterior, 2mm posterior. We compared the forces and the distribution of stress that were generated by the difference of position of T-loop spring. The results were as follows. 1. All of the 3 types of T-loop spring showed the similar retraction forces. 2. All showed the similar amount & pattern of stress distribution. 3. The centers of rotation of canine in 3 types of T-loop spring were same and were positioned between C and D plane. 4. The canine showed the intrusive force by 2mm anterior positioned T-loop spring, but the extrusive force by 2mm posterior positioned T-loop suing. Neverthless, because of the small amount of the forces, the effect of vertical force was not significant.
Cleft lip and/or palate (CLP) is one of the most common congenital craniofacial anomalies and occurs more frequently in Asian people. Dental abnormalities in number, size, shape, and eruption of teeth are frequently associated with CLP. The purposes of this study were to investigate the effects of CLP on number, size, shape and eruption of teeth and to provide basic clinical data for diagnosis and treatment of the CLP patients. With the orthodontic and cleft charts, diagnostic models, orthopantomograms and intraoral x-ray films from 241 CLP patients who visited Dept. of Orthodontics, Seoul National University Dental Hospital, we evaluated the frequency of congenital missing teeth, supernumerary teeth, Impacted teeth, and microdontia. The results were as fellows ; 1. Frequency of congenital missing was relatively high up to $56.8\%$. Congenital missing occurred frequently in the maxillary lateral incisor and the maxillary second premolar. Among the CLP types, frequencies of congenital missing in cleft lip and Palate group and cleft lip and alveolus group were higher than those of cleft lip group and cleft palate group. And bilateral cleft showed higher frequencies than unilateral ones. 2. Supernumerary tooth was shown in $11.2\%$ of CLP patients. It occurred frequently in the area between the maxillary lateral Incisors and the maxillary canine. Among the CLP types, cleft lip group showed relatively most highest frequency. 3. Impaction was shown in $18.3\%$ of CLP patients. It occurred most frequently In the maxillary lateral incisor and the maxillary canine than other teeth. Among the CLP types, cleft lip group and cleft lip and palate group showed most highest frequencies. 4. Microdontia was shown in $15.8\%$ of CLP patients. It occurred the most frequently In the maxillary lateral incisors and maxillary canines. Among the CLP types, cleft lip and alveolus group and cleft lip and palate group showed relatively higher frequencies. There was no microdontia in cleft palate group.

Management options for impacted maxillary canines can include (1) continued observation, (2) extraction of the primary canine to aid spontaneous eruption, (3) uncovering and bonding of the impacted tooth and its eruption using orthodontic traction, (4) autotransplantation, and (5) extraction followed by prosthetic replacement. Autotransplantation should be considered when the degree of malposition is too severe to correct by orthodontic alignment. The present report describes the management of an ectopic eruption of the left maxillary canine in an 10-year-old girl. The treatment included the extraction of primary maxillary left canine and the autotransplantation using a Rapid Prototyping model. By using RP model to contour the recipient bone and check for fitting in the prepared socket, the extra-oral time can reduce. The autotransplanted canine showed mobility within normal limit, negative response to percussion and positive to electric pulp test after 6 months.

The aim of this study was to analyze the initial movement and the stress distribution of each tooth and periodontal ligament during the lingual lever-arm retraction of 6 maxillary incisors using FEA. Two kinds of finite element models were produced: 2-properties model (simple model) and 24-properties model (multi model) according to the material property assignment. The subject was an adult male of 23 years old. The DICOM images through the CT of the patient were converted into the 3D image model of a skull using the Mimics (version 10.11, Materialise's interactive Medical Image Control System, Materialise, Belgium). After series of calculating, remeshing, exporting, importing process and volume mesh process was performed, FEA models were produced. FEA models are consisted of maxilla, maxillary central incisor, lateral incisor, canine, periodontal ligaments and lingual traction arm. The boundary conditions fixed the movements of posterior, sagittal and upper part of the model to the directions of X, Y, Z axis respectively. The model was set to be symmetrical to X axis. Through the center of resistance of maxilla complex, a retraction force of 200g was applied horizontally to the occlusal plane. Under this conditions, the initial movements and stress distributions were evaluated by 3D FEA. In the result, the amount of posterior movement was larger in the multi model than in the simple model as well as the amount of vertically rotation. The pattern of the posterior movement in the central incisors and lateral incisors was controlled tipping movement, and the amount was larger than in the canine. But the amount of root movement of the canine was larger than others. The incisor rotated downwardly and the canines upwardly around contact points of lateral incisor and canine in the both models. The values of stress are similar in the both simple and multi model.
This study was aimed to observe the effect of Anterior J hook headgear on the craniofacial structures in mixed dentition with Class II malocclusion. The laterial cephalograms of 20 children treated by Anterior J hook headgear were traced, digitized and statistically analyzed. The results were as follows : 1. Forward growth of maxilla was inhibited. 2. Rotational effect of maxilla was not observed. 3. There was distal movement of maxillary dentition. 4. Maxillarly_dentoalveolar growth changes were more effective in anterior portion than posterior portion. 5. Mandible maintained a normal growth and mandibular plane angle was maintained during treatment period. 6. The ratio of anterior facial height to posterior facial height was almostly not changed.
Interdisciplinary treatment of Class III malocclusion with congenital missing of unilateral maxillary canine and anterior crossbite is discussed focusing on a problem-oriented treatment planning, treatment progress, and treatment result. Maxillary mini-implant provided anchorage for distalization of the maxillary right porsterior dentition. Mandibular mini-implants were used to distalize the whole mandibular dentition. Total treatment time was 17 months to achieve a successful treatment goal. Stable occlusion was maintained after 12 months of retention.
