Relationships between Emotional Intelligence and Job Performance of Sales Representatives: Mediating Effects of Self-efficacy and Moderating Effects of Person-supervisor Fit (영업사원의 감성지능이 직무성과에 미치는 영향: 자기효능감의 매개효과와 개인-상사 적합성의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between emotional intelligence and job performance. Also, the study explore the effects of self-efficacy as a mediating variable and person-supervisor fit as a moderating variable on the mentioned relationships. In order to verify the assumptions related to this research, a survey of 173 sales representatives working in various organizations was conducted. Survey results supported the assumption that higher emotional intelligence resulted in higher job performance. And another assumption that job performance could be predicted more precisely through mediating effect of self-efficacy. Finally, results revealed that the relationships between emotional intelligence and self-efficacy became stronger when the scores of person-supervisor fit were higher. Theoretical and practical implication were reviewed and limitations of the study and suggestions for future research were discussed.

Effect of Emotional Labor on Service Commitment and Customer Orientation among Hotel Employees -moderating effect of supervisor's emotional intelligence- (호텔종사자의 감성노동이 서비스몰입 및 고객지향성에 미치는 영향 -상사의 감성지능의 조절효과-)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship among the emotional labor, service commitment and customer orientation in hotel service context. Moreover, this study was designed to test the moderating effect of supervisor's emotional intelligence to provide fundamental and practical data for hotel industry. In this study, 4 hypotheses based on literature reviews were employed. A questionnaire was also developed based on previous studies. A convenience sample of 318 hotel employees was surveyed and a total of 297 usable questionnaires were analyzed. Then the data and hypotheses were examined using multiple regression analysis using SPSS 18.0. The results are as follows. Firstly, emotional labor was divided into 'emotional dissonance', 'emotional frequency', 'emotional diversity' and 'emotional intensity' according to the literature review. Analysis showed that emotional labor has partial effects on service commitment accordingly. Secondly, service commitment has positive effect on customer orientation. Thirdly, emotional labor has partial effects on customer orientation. Lastly, supervisor's emotional intelligence has partial moderating effects between emotional labor and customer orientation. Continuous and systematic training should be conducted to administer 'emotional labor'.

  • This study examined (1) what effect emotional labor has on an university library, focusing on (2) the relationship among a supervisor's emotional intelligence, the extent of social support and the level of library service on job performance. The survey period took place from 14 Oct. to 4 Nov. 2013. 533 librarians at 13 public and 28 private university libraries were included in the survey. Of the 533 surveys distributed, 529 were returned and used in the final analysis. SPSS Win 21.0 was used for statistical analysis, factor analysis, regression analysis and differential analysis. The survey also shows that a librarian's emotional labor affects emotional intelligence of supervisor, social support and library service level positively. This finding is not the case for the employees in the general service industry. Because the librarian is professional and manages stress better than general employees. This research suggest the following practical measures. Educational programs for librarian's emotional intelligence should be planned in order to improve library service.

  • This study introduced trust dimension as a mediating variable and analyzed in order to investigate the empirical mechanism on the process of leader's emotional intelligence which is a emotional factor to produce organizational effectiveness. Based on the empirical analysis, first of all, this study found whether the team leader's emotional intelligence gives an influence on the subordinate's trust in leader. Secondly, this study examined the multidimensionality of trust by selecting subordinate's cognition-based trust and affect-based trust on the team leader as mediating variables between team leaders's emotional intelligence and subordinate's affective commitment, organizational citizenship behavior. I found the theoretical implications based on this study; first, from the view on cognition-based and emotion-based trust, the integrated verification of the process of the trust in leader as a mediating role, second, verification of the relationship between leader's emotional intelligence and trust in leader which was not studied before, third, the methodological try to prevent from the common method bias problem through the evaluation of a team leader on a subordinate's organizational citizenship behavior. This study also suggested the ways to apply those theoretical implications to human resource management.

  • The principal objective of this study is to examine the relationship between the emotional intelligence and customer orientation in airline service context. Moreover, this study was designed to test the moderating effect of social support to provide fundamental and practical data for airline industry. A convenience sample of 233 flight attendants was surveyed and a total of 214 usable questionnaires were analyzed. Then the data and hypotheses were examined using multiple regression analysis using SPSS 18.0. The results are as follows. Firstly, emotional intelligence was divided into 'self-emotional appraisal', 'other's emotional appraisal', 'regulation of emotion' and 'use of emotion' according to the literature review. Analysis showed that emotional intelligence has partial effect on customer orientation accordingly. Secondly, social support has partial moderating effects between emotional intelligence and customer orientation. Continuous and systematic training program which build up team work should be conducted to administer 'emotional intelligence'.

  • Today, Emotional Intelligence of the leader has become important in order to achieve the achievement of the organization. Especially, the automobile industry is somewhat conservative and the organizational culture of the subcontractor is still much more important than the service industry which has a flexible. In this context, I examine the Emotional Intelligence on Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Innovative Behavior in manufacture of automobile industry focusing on moderating effect of Authentic Leadership. This Study enhances the understanding of Emotional Intelligence and extends the research. Future research will needed to pioneer research methods such as various aspects of measurement and time series of various variables.

  • The purpose of this study is to demonstrate moderating effect of communications on job satisfactions by an emotional intelligence and conflict-relations of employees and to investigate the influence on job satisfactions by an emotional intelligence and conflict-relations of employees in a long-term care facilities. The results were analyzed from the final responses of 379 employees who are working in a long-term care facilities in Gyeong-Gi Province by SPSS 18.0. The method used in this study were factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, hierarchical regression analysis, moderated regression analysis. The results of this study are as in the following. First, these consequences showed that an emotional intelligence is positively related with job satisfaction among others' emotional appraisal, use of emotion, regulation of emotion and self emotional appraisal. Second, these results are observed that the conflicts of client's protector and superior is negatively related with job satisfaction. Third, these data are convinced that the communications have a partial effects among conflict, relationship and compensation.

An Empirical Study on the Effect of Humor Sense of Leader on Innovative Behavior and the Moderating Effects of Empowerment (리더의 유머감각이 구성원의 혁신행동에 미치는 영향 및 임파워먼트의 조절효과에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of this research are to examine the effect of humor sense of leader on innovative behavior and to examine the moderating effects of empowerment on the relationship between humor sense of leader and innovative behavior. For these purposes, literature review and survey research were conducted. The 350 questionnaires were sent to the 10 manufactural firms in the Pusan and Kyungsang Nam-Do region for empirical analysis. Total 276 usable responses were collected(effective response rate : 78.86%). The major findings of the empirical research are as follows ; First, generation of humor, use of humor, attitude of humor and evaluation of humor which are composed factors of humor sense of leader have positive influence innovative behavior. Second, composed factors of humor sense of leader have differential influence on innovative behavior by empowerment. In conclusion, humor sense of leader is expected to improve innovative behavior which is individual behavior in an organization. Therefore, managers have to develop innovative behavior by exhibiting humor sense, considering empowerment.

A Study on the effect of emotional labor and leader's emotional intelligence on job satisfaction and organizational commitment for nurses (감정노동과 상사의 감성지능이 간호사의 직무만족과 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of nurses' emotional labor and the importance of leaders' emotional intelligence roles by verifying them with job satisfaction and organizational commitment for 396 nurses at 8 university hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. It was found that emotional labor had a negative relationship with job satisfaction and organizational commitment. And leaders' emotional intelligence has a significant positive relationship with job satisfaction and organizational commitment. However, leaders' emotional intelligence has no moderation effect on emotional labor and dependent variables. As this study shows that emotional labor and leader's emotional intelligence affect organizational effectiveness of hospital nurses, it would be important to not only manage members' emotional labor but to also develop the emotional intelligence of both leaders and the staff.
