  • Similarity rule in order to predict the field settlement and consolidation time from oedometer test is not clear because of the thickness, loading time, rate of loading increase, dependence on strain inherent of clay. To investigate the one-dimensional consolidation tests with permeability tests varied loading period and specimen thickness were carried out the application of similarity rule. Main conclusions are 1) f(=1+e)-logk line is a unique property of the soil, 2) $c_{\nu}$, k need no correction, 3)similarity rule is depends on the positions of f-logp line and primary consolidation line.

  • For physical experiments like analogue modeling that designed for studying geological deformation, reproducibility of the deformation is important to guarantee the reliability of the experiment. In this study, the normal fault generated by extensional stress is benchmarked using a sand box model. The scaling factors for the modeling test are considered and the experiments are conducted by setting the appropriate material, extensional stress, and boundary condition in the same way as in a benchmark experiment. In addition, a large centrifuge facility is used to vary the centrifugal acceleration and extension rate in the same sized model to account for the scaling factors of the physical quantity during extensional behavior. At 1 g benchmark condition and a centrifugal field at 10 g, a constant rate of the extensional stress is implemented and the topographic evolution is reliably measured. In this study, the reliability and applicability of large centrifuge model tests are evaluated for formulating experiments designed to study geological deformation.

  • Skin friction may be one of the most critical factors in designing the prebored and precast pile. Special attention was given to the interface behavior of cement milk-surrounding soil during the installation of prebored and precast pile. Small-scale field model pile test was conducted for the case of single pile. The size and geometry of the small-scale field model piles were designed with pile length 1.3m, boring diameter 0.067 m. Quick maintain-load test was conducted for the cases of boring diameter 150, 125, 90, 86, 74 mm and water-cement ratio 90, 70, 60%. It was shown that the bearing capacity of the pile increased as the cement-water ratio and cement milk thickness increased. Considering the scale effect between the small-scale model test and the actual construction site, it was found that cement milk thickness of 0.1~0.4D (50~200 mm) was reasonable for the stability of the structure. Also, the proper cement paste water / cement ratio was about 70% when considering the results of this study and quality control.

  • Ball screws are commonly used in linear motion feeding systems of various machine tools and automated systems. They are known to have relatively little backlash, high precision and efficiency compared to ordinary lead screws. Furthermore, the effectiveness of ball screw has made it the preferred choice of many newly developed high speed precision feeding units. The motivation of this work is to establish the groove edsigh basis of ball screws for the reduction of contact fatigue failure. In most instances, fatigue failure between ball and shaft groove is due to excessive contact pressure. Especially, the excessive load is causative of plastic flow below the contact surface, which can contribute to surface failure. But, in spite of small load, if groove conformity rate is large, contact pressure is increased and internal shear stress reach the yield value of the material. In such a point, the authors deal with design procedure for deciding the permissible conformity rate of a ball screw groove with the computational evaluation of contact pressure and maximum shear stress.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relation between visual analogue scale and recovery time with type of injury that occur in elite wrestling athletes. The incidence rate of injury was analyzed the Poisson ratio, and the VAS and recovery time according to the type of injury were compared using the one-way ANOVA. In addition, the VAS and recovery time were examine the relationship using the Simple Linear Regression, and statistical significance level was α =.05. Injuries occurred most commonly in the ligament, followed by the muscle, cartilage and tendon. The VAS and recovery time according to the type of injury was statistically significant (p=.001, p=.001, respectively). The VAS and recovery time according to the type of injury was statistically significant (p=.001, p=.001). Also, increase in VAS of 1 point was associated with about 1.89 recovery time. These studies are expected to be useful as basic data for return to sports and safe training.

  • The geometric patterns of a stream network in a drainage basin can be viewed as a "fractal" with fractal dimensions. Fractals provide a mathematical framework for treatment of irregular, ostensively complex shapes that show similar patterns or geometric characteristics over a range of scale. GIUH (Geomorphological Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph) is based on the hydrologic response of surface runoff in a catchment basin. This model incorporates geomorphologic parameters of a basin using Horton's order ratios. For an ordered drainage system, the fractal dimensions can be derived from Horton's laws of stream numbers, stream lengths and stream areas. In this paper, a fractal approach, which is leading to representation of a 2-parameter Gamma distribution type GIUH, has been carried out to incorporate the self similarity of the channel networks based on the high correlations between the Horton's order ratios. The shape and scale parameter of the GIUH-Nash model of IUH in terms of Horton's order ratios of a catchment proposed by Rosso(l984J are simplified by applying the fractal dimension of main stream length and channel network of a river basin. basin.

  • This study examined the impact of learning organization activities on burnout and the moderating effect of supervisor trust in a learning organization. The results of the study shows that among the activities of a learning organization, independent variables in this study, promoting inquiry and dialogue as well as encouraging collaboration and team learning affect burnout. In other words, the dedication of an organization to creating a culture in which various learning approaches are experimented through questioning and giving feedback as well as collaborative learning that can reinforce the effective use of team resources have an impact on reducing emotional exhaustion, which is considered to be at the core of burnout. Plus, these factors reduce impersonalization, which is activated to prevent further emotional exhaustion by dealing with customers, colleagues and jobs in a cold, negative and perfunctory way. In this study, the dimensions of promoting inquiry and dialogue as well as encouraging collaboration and team learning were found to reduce the decline in personal sense of achievement of an employee with a negative assessment of himself or herself derived from a lack of achievement in his or her job. Supervisor trust (integrity, benevolence and ability) had a moderating effect on the relationship between strategic learning leadership and impersonalization/emotional exhaustion. This suggests that the trust of supervisor helps mediate and moderate the emotional exhaustion and impersonalization of organizational members by encouraging leaders to drive change and take the organization to a new direction. The study has provided implications that communication plays an important role in reducing burnout in the learning context such as positive, appreciative inquiry and feedback analysis to identify strength, and that supervisor trust is critical in order to ensure strategic learning leadership exerts greater influence on the organization.

  • The centrifuge and 1-g shaking table tests were performed simultaneously to compare the dynamic behaviors of loose sands of the same geotechnical properties. The prototype soils were 10 m thick liquefiable loose sands. The geometric scaling factors were 20 for 1-g and 40 for centrifuge tests. The excess pore pressure, surface settlement, and acceleration in the soil were measured at the same locations in the 1-g and centrifuge tests. The total excess pore pressure from development to dissipation was measured. In the centrifuge test, viscous fluid was used as the pore water to eliminate the time scaling difference between dynamic time and dissipation time. In the 1-g tests, the steady state concept was applied to determine the unit weight of the model soil, and two different time scaling factors were applied for the dynamic time and the dissipation time. It is concluded that the 1-g tests can simulate the excess pore pressure of the prototype soil if the permeability of the model soil is small enough to prevent dissipation of excess pore pressure during shaking and the dissipation time scaling factor is properly determined.

  • The evolution of deep-sea waves is driven by energy input from wind, nonlinear energy transfer between wave components, and dissipation through whitecaps. A comparative study was implemented by the use of two wave models in which only the computation methods of nonlinear wave-wave interactions are different from each other. It was reaffirmed that the nonlinear interaction plays a central role in such phenomena that occurred during the spectral growth of wind-seas as down-shift of the spectral peak frequency, overshoot, undershoot, and formation of self-similar spectrum. Specifically, the directional distribution at high frequencies develops into bimodal form, which is attributed to the nonlinear interactions. As saturation stage is reached, spectral density at high frequencies becomes proportional to negative 4 power to the frequency. Perturbations introduced into the spectrum quickly vanished through the actions of the self-similar mechanism. Thus, the nonlinear transfer has important contribution to the stability of numerical ocean wave models.
