Development of a computer mouse using gyro-sensors and LEDs (자이로 센서와 LED를 이용한 마우스 개발)

  • We proposed the device to control a computer with only a head and eye blinks so that disabilities by car accidents can use a computer. Because they have paralysis of their upper extremities such as C4~C5 paraplegics and cerebral palsy, they cannot efficiently access a general keyboard/mouse not using hands and foots. The cursor position was estimated from a gyro-sensor which can measure head movements, and the mouse event such as click/double click from opto-sensors which can detect eye blinks. The sensor was put on the proper goggle in order not to disturb the visual field. The performance of the proposed device was compared to a general optical mouse, and was used both relative and absolute coordinate in cursor positioning control. The recognition rate of click and double-click was 86% of the optical mouse, the speed of cursor movement by the proposed device was not much different from the mouse. The overall accuracy was 80%. Especially, the relative coordinate is more convenience and accuracy than the absolute coordinate, and can reduce the frequency of reset to prevent the accumulative error.

Hierarchical Ann Classification Model Combined with the Adaptive Searching Strategy (적응적 탐색 전략을 갖춘 계층적 ART2 분류 모델)

  • We propose a hierarchical architecture of ART2 Network for performance improvement and fast pattern classification model using fitness selection. This hierarchical network creates coarse clusters as first ART2 network layer by unsupervised learning, then creates fine clusters of the each first layer as second network layer by supervised learning. First, it compares input pattern with each clusters of first layer and select candidate clusters by fitness measure. We design a optimized fitness function for pruning clusters by measuring relative distance ratio between a input pattern and clusters. This makes it possible to improve speed and accuracy. Next, it compares input pattern with each clusters connected with selected clusters and finds winner cluster. Finally it classifies the pattern by a label of the winner cluster. Results of our experiments show that the proposed method is more accurate and fast than other approaches.

Analysis of Critical Time Headway and Capacity for Freeway Merging Area (고속도로 합류부 임계차두간격 및 용량 산정에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of the paper is to analyze the traffic characteristics for freeway merging area. Freeway merging area is different from basic section due to ramp vehicles. Therefore, to understand the traffic characteristics of (leeway merging area, this study focused on two factors including critical time headway required in merging maneuver and maximum possible merging volume. In this paper, new model that adopts critical time headway instead of critical time gap in calculating the maximum possible merging volume based on probability function was developed In previous studies, for calculating the maximum possible merging volume, it was considered that merging vehicles could merge freely if a given time gap was greater than the critical time gap. Also, the critical time gap was used as the same value in all traffic flow conditions. But, a time gap required in merging maneuver could be changed, even to the same driver, because difference of relative speed varies in different traffic flow conditions. So, in some cases, the critical time gap could be insufficient value in merging maneuver. Therefore, in this study. a calculating procedure for critical time headway in all traffic flow conditions was presented. Also, the maximum possible merging volume and capacity for freeway merging area were calculated by using the previously found critical time headway.

  • 개수로에서 비에너지(specific energy)는 수로바닥을 기준으로 단위무게의 물이 가지는 에너지로 정의되며 흐름의 위치수두와 속도수두의 합으로 표현된다. 비에너지는 수로단면의 변화에 따른 수심의 변화를 해석하기 위하여 사용되는 중요한 개념이다. 사각형 개수로에서의 비에너지 관계식은 3차방정식의 형태이며, 해석적으로 3개의 해(3개의 수심)를 가지나, 물리적인 의미를 가지는 해는 2개이며 나머지 하나의 해는 음수이므로 물리적인 의미를 가지지 않는다. 물리적인 의미를 가지는 2개의 해는 각각 흐름이 상류(subcritical flow)인 경우와 사류(supercritical flow)인 경우에 대한 수심이다. 즉, 일정한 유량이 흐르는 조건에서 동일한 비에너지를 가지는 수심이 상류와 사류에 각각 존재하는데, 이 2개의 수심을 대응수심(alternate depths)이라 정의한다. 이러한 사각형 개수로에 대한 비에너지 관계식은 3차방정식이므로 그 해석해를 구할 수 있어, 수로단면의 변화에 따른 흐름의 변화를 비교적 쉽게 해석할 수 있다. 사각형 개수로가 아닌 경우의 비에너지 관계식을 이론적으로 고찰하는 연구는 찾아보기 힘들다. 이에 본 연구에서는 포물선형 개수로에 대해서 비에너지 관계식을 유도하였다. 유도된 비에너지 관계식은 비선형 음함수의 형태로 해석적으로 해를 구할 수 없다. 유도된 관계식의 해법으로 2차의 정밀도를 가지는 Newton-Raphson방법을 이용하였으며, 계산의 초기치는 상용화된 Excel에서 쉽게 구할 수 있는 회귀식을 이용하여 구하였다. 적용 예를 통해, 단순 회귀식을 이용하는 경우에는 정해와의 상대오차가 2 - 8% 내외였는데, 본 연구에서 제안하는 방법을 사용하는 경우에는 동일한 조건에서 상대오차가 0.25% 내외를 보였다. 즉 본 연구에서 제시하고 있는 양해법을 이용하면, 포물선형 개수로 흐름의 대응수심을 용이하게 그리고 정확도가 매우 높게 산정할 수 있다.

Relative Speed based Task Distribution Algorithm for Smart Device Cluster (스마트 디바이스로 구성된 클러스터를 위한 상대속도 기반 작업 분배 기법)

  • Smart devices such as smart phones, smart TVs, and smart pads have become essential devices in recent years. As the popularity and demand grows, the performance of smart devices is also getting better and users are dealing with a lot of things such as education and business using smart devices instead of desktop. However, smart devices that still have poor performance compared to desktop, even with improved performance, have difficulty running high performance applications due to limited resources. In this paper, we propose a load balancing algorithm applying the characteristics of smart devices to overcome the resource limitations of devices. in order to verify the algorithm, we implemented the algorithm after adding the distributed processing system service in Android platform. After constructing the cluster on the smart device, various experiments were conducted. Through the analysis of the test results, it is confirmed that the proposed algorithm efficiently improves the overall distributed processing performance by effectively aggregating different amounts of computing resources in heterogeneous smart devices.

A simple approach to refraction statics with the Generalized Reciprocal Method and the Refraction Convolution Section (GRM과 RCS 방법을 이용한 굴절파 정적 시간차를 구하는 간단한 방법)

  • We derive refraction statics for seismic data recorded in a hard rock terrain, in which there are large and rapid variations in the depth of weathering. The statics corrections range from less than 10 ms to more than 70 ms, often over distances as short as 12 receiver intervals. This study is another demonstration of the importance in obtaining accurate initial refraction models of the weathering in hard rock terrains in which automatic residual statics may fail. We show that the statics values computed with a simple model of the weathering using the Generalized Reciprocal Method (GRM) and the Refraction Convolution Section (RCS) are comparable in accuracy to those computed with a more complex model of the weathering, using least-mean-squares inversion with the conjugate gradient algorithm (Taner et al., 1998). The differences in statics values between the GRM model and that of Taner et al. (1998) systematically vary from an average of 2ms to 4ms over a distance of 8.8 km. The differences between these two refraction models and the final statics model, which includes the automatic residual values, are generally less than 5 ms. The residuals for the GRM model are frequently less than those for the model of Taner et al. (1998). The RCS statics are picked approximately 10 ms later, but their relative accuracy is comparable to that of the GRM statics. The residual statics values show a general correlation with the refraction statics values, and they can be reduced in magnitude by using a lower average seismic velocity in the weathering. These results suggest that inaccurate average seismic velocities in the weathered layer may often be a source of short-wavelength statics, rather than any shortcomings with the inversion algorithms in determining averaged delay times from the traveltimes.

Model Tests on the Lateral Behavior of Steel Pipe Piles(I) in the Nak -dong River Sand (강관말뚝의 수평거동에 대한 모형실험 연구(I) -대구지역 낙동강 모래에 대하여)

  • This paper shows the results of a series of model bests on the behavior of single steel pipe pile which is subjected to lateral load in Nak-dong river sand. The purpose of the present paper is to estimate the effect of Non -homogeneous soil, constraint condition of pile head, lateral load velocity, relative density of soil, embedded pile length, and flexural stiffness of pile on the behavior of single pile which is embedded in Nak-dong river strand. These effects can be quantined only by the results of model tests. The nonlinear responses of lateral loadieflection relationships are fitted to 2nd polynomial equations by model tests results. Also, the lateral load of a deflection, yield and ultimate lateral load max. bending moment, and yield bending moment can be expressed as exponential function in terms of relative density and deflection ratio. By comparing Brom's results with model results on the lateral ultimate load, it is found that short and long pile show the contrary results with each other. The contrary results are due to the smaller assumed soil reaction than the soil reaction of the Nakiong river sand at deep point. By comparing lateral behavior on the homogeneous soil with non-homogeneous soil, it is shown that lateral loadieflection relationship is very dependent on the upper relative density. This phenomenon is shown remarkably as the difference between upper and lower relative density increases.

  • 일반 하천에서의 유량측정 방법은 하천 조건에 따라 다르다. 전통적인 방법으로는 구조물에 의한 방법, 유속계 측정에 의한 유속-면적법, 부자에 의한 방법, 그리고 희석법 등이 있다. 그러나 이러한 방법들은 측정 위험성을 가지고 있다. 홍수시 발생되는 고유속과 심한 난류, 거대한 부유물질들은 하천 접근에 어려움을 가져오고, 측정 기기의 파손 위험성뿐만 아니라 인명피해까지 발생시킬 가능성이 있다. 최근 기존 방법들의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 음파, 초음파, 레이더 등을 이용한 유량 측정 방법과 장비들이 개발되었다. 본 연구에서 사용한 레이더 유속계는 하천의 표면유속을 측정하는 비접촉식 센서로 홍수기 전 미리 유속 측정 단면 측량을 실시한다면 홍수시에도 비교적 신속하고 안전하게 유속을 측정할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 레이더 유속계를 충청북도 괴산군 달천에 위치한 수전교에 설치하여 괴산댐 방류량 및 동시유량 측정 성과와 비교하였다. 2007년 7월부터 2008년 8월까지 $36m^3/s\;\sim\;821m^3/s$의 사상에서 총 10회 측정한 결과, 레이더 유속계를 사용하여 측정한 유량의 상대오차는 댐방류량 대비 -3.3% $\sim$ 27.5%로 나타나 평균11.8%의 상대오차를 보였다. 레이더 유속계 측정과 동시에 실시한 유속-면적법 측정, ADCP법 측정의 상대오차는 각각 평균 5.7%, 6.5%로 나타난 것과 비교한다면 다소 높은 오차를 보였다. 그러나 측정 시간의 경우 수위에 따라 다소 차이는 있지만 레이더 유속계를 이용하면 30분 정도의 시간이 소요되었으며, 유속면적법은 1시간 이상, ADCP법은 40분의 시간이 소요되었다. 이와 같이 레이더 유속계는 다른 방법에 비해 정확성은 다소 떨어지지만 측정 속도와 안정성 면에서는 우수하다고 판단된다. 문제점으로 지적되는 정확도 측면의 경우 레이더 유속계로 측정되는 표면유 속과 평균 유속 사이의 보정계수 문제를 보완한다면 보다 정확한 측정이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

Source Localization Technique for Radar Pulse Emission by Using Scanning Method of Interest Area (관심영역 스캐닝기법을 이용한 레이더 펄스 발생원 위치 추정기법)

  • In recent days, some techniques to prevent from radar detection have been applied on aircraft system. RWR(Radar Warning Receiver) can be used for estimating the source location of the aircraft which emits radar pulse. Current existing method of localizing radar pulse emission source is using AOA(Angle Of Arrival) and most techniques are focused on finding exact AOA to find exact location. In this case, however, the exact AOA does not always result in finding exact source location while target aircraft is moving fast. In this paper, a localization method using the phase delay of the radar pulse's low frequency applies and so a scanning method for the interest area does in order to estimate exact source location by using phase delay.

  • In difference with the rotary type electrical machinery, the single-sided linear induction motor(SLIM) that generates the direct thrust, is widely used for the operation system of electrified railroad, lope-less elevation system, conveyer system, and so on. The operational principle of single-sided linear induction motor is constructively similar to the general rotary Induction motor It Is difficult to realize the complicate linear induction motor which is applied space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM) system, but widely used in vector motor control system or servo control system because of its high performance in current control. In this paper, we has modeled the dynamic characteristic analyzing methode, and calculated efficiently the end effect by using equivalent circuit methode in the operating linear Induction motor control system.
