Enhanced Catalytic Activity of Cu/Zn Catalyst by Ce Addition for Low Temperature Water Gas Shift Reaction (Ce 첨가에 따른 저온수성가스전이반응용 Cu/Zn 촉매의 활성 연구)

  • In order to investigate the effect of cerium oxide addition, Cu-ZnO-CeO2 catalysts were prepared using co-precipitation method for water gas shift (WGS) reaction. A series of Cu-ZnO-CeO2 catalyst with fixed Cu Content (50 wt%, calculated as CuO) and a given ceria content (e.g., 0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 wt%, calculated as CeO2) were tested for catalytic activity at a GHSV of 95,541 h-1, and a temperature range of 200 to 400 ℃. Cu-ZnO-CeO2 catalysts were characterized by using BET, SEM, XRD, H2-TPR, and XPS analysis. Varying composition of Cu-ZnO-CeO2 catlysts led the difference characteristics such as Cu dispersion, and binding energy. The optimum 10 wt% doping of cerium facilitated catalyst reduction at lower temperature and improved the catalyst performance greatly in terms of CO conversion. Cerium oxide added catalyst showed enhanced activities at higher temperature when it compared with the catalyst without cerium oxide. Consequently, ceria addition of optimal composition leads to enhanced catalytic activity which is attributed to enhanced Cu dispersion, lower binding energy, and hindered Cu metal agglomeration.

  • The kinetics of the oxidation reaction of malonic acid by ceric ion in 1 M sulfuric acid solution at $20^{\circ}C$ have been investigated by spectrophotometric method. The reaction rate at a large excess of malonic acid was found to be pseudo-first order. The observed pseudo-first order rate constants, $k_{obs}$, are dependent on the concentration of malonic acid, [MA], of which relationship has been found to be $k_{obs}$ = (0.592[MA])/(1+14.5[MA]$^2$). A mechanism for the reaction has been suggested on the basis of the above rate equation. The rate determining step may be the electron transfer reaction between enolate type malonate anion, which is formed by the acid dissociation reaction of malonic acid, and Ce(IV). The rate depression in the range of high concentration of MA has been explained by the formation of 1 : 2 chelate between Ce(IV) and malonate. According to the mechanism, the pH dependence of the rate, which was studied by Sengupta et al., has also been explained.

  • 국내의 등산용 아웃도어 제품의 경우, 기능성인 투습도와 내수압만을 증대시키려는 연구가 주류를 이루고 있었다. 하지만, 실제 등산용 아웃도어의 경우 산악지형인 고지대에서 사용시간이 많으므로, 이에 따른 장시간의 직접적인 태양광 노출로 인한 인체에 치명적인 영향을 야기시키고 있지만, 인체 보호용 헬스케어 아웃도어 제품에 대한 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 태양광은 자외선 2.5%, 가시광선 51.5%, 적외선 46.0%의 광량 비율을 가지고 있으며, 이 중 자외선은 광량은 적지만 에너지적으로 높아 유기물 분해 및 열화를 일으킨다. 이러한 자외선을 차단하기위해 아웃도어 의류에서는 유무기하이브리드 소재를 표면에 코팅시키게 되며, 기능성 코팅액내에 함유되어 있는 나노분말의 경우 이산화티타늄($TiO_2$), 산화세륨(CeO), 산화아연(ZnO), 삼산화텅스텐($WO_3$), 산화마그네슘(MgO) 등이 주로 사용되어 진다. 본 연구에서는 자외선 흡수소재로 나노산화아연분말을 이용하여, 그 입도 및 코팅용 희석 용매내의 분산성을 확인하고, 함유량을 달리한 코팅 수지를 제조하여, 코팅시편 제조 후 그 특성을 비교/분석하여 자외선 차단 효과를 확인하고자 한다.

  • 본 연구는 Ta, Nb, Zr, 및 희토류 등을 복합적으로 함유한 복합광을 대상으로 사염화탄소에 의한 염화반응을 알아보기 위한 기초연구로서 각 산화물의 염화반응 특성을 알아보고 이를 토대로 복합광의 염화반응을 비교하여 보았다. 실험결과 산화물 상태의 Nb, Ta 및 Zr은 비교적 낮은 온도에서 염화반응이 일어나고 염화물이 휘발됨을 알 수 있었다. 복합광을 반응 온도 $400^{\circ}C,\;CCl_4$ 분압 0.28 일때 반응시간이 10분에서 60분으로 변함에 따라 니오븀 및 탄탈륨은 $91%{\sim}99%$의 높은 회수율을 나타내었으나 지르코늄은 각각 16.5%에서 27.5%로 약간 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 희토류의 경우 세륨은 반응율이 71.7에서 73% 정도였고 란타늄은 51%에서 54% 정도의 반응율을 나타내었다.

  • By addition of 1~5mol% CeO$_2$to powders with composition in the BaO-Nd$_2$O$_3$-TiO$_2$, temperature coefficient of permittivity of sintered ceramics may be decreased from approximately-140ppm/$^{\circ}C$~-65ppm/$^{\circ}C$. Dense, fine grained ceramics were prepared with permitivity within the range of 78~92 and Q above 1000.

  • HI decomposition step certainly demand catalytic reaction for efficient production of hydrogen in SI process. Platinum catalyst can apply to HI decomposition reaction as well as hydrogenation or dehydrogenation. Generally, noble metal is used as catalyst which is loaded form for getting high dispersion and wide active area. In this study, Pt was loaded onto zirconia, ceria, alumina, and silica by impregnation method. HI decomposition reaction was carried out under the condition of $450^{\circ}C$, 1atm, and $167.76h^{-1}$ (WHSV) in a fixed bed reactor for measuring catalytic activity. And property of a catalyst was observed by BET, TEM, XRD and chemisoption analysis. On the basis of experimental results, we discussed about conversion of HI according to physical properties of the loaded Pt catalyst onto each support.

  • Cerium oxide ($CeO_2$, often called as Ceria) is one of the valuable rare earth oxide materials, which has been widely used for high temperature applications such as solid oxide fuel cells, automotive three-way catalysts and oxygen storage capacity. Considering those application, it is important to improve high redox and thermal stability with high surface morphology because the high surface area of $CeO_2$ could improve the catalytic reactivity at high temperature conditions. Herein we successfully fabricated hierarchical flower-like $CeO_2$ deposited via controlling pathway of precipitation reaction to supply carbonate ion lead to the flower-like morphology. The hexagonal lattice system of precipitated precursor shows better thermal stability then orthorhombic one during thermal cycling condition.

  • Oxidation/reduction titrations are important quantitative procedures for many chemicals. Several widely used analytical methods for cosmetic ingredients are based on the redox reactions. In this article, we summarized basic theories of redox titration and applications. Determination of unsaturation properties based on iodine or bromine number, quantitation of hydrogen peroxide or peroxide materials in several cosmetic ingredients and measurement of titanium dioxide, widely used sunscreen agent, in cosmetics are discussed here.

  • The chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) is generally consisted of pad, slurry including abrasives and so on. However, there are some problems in a general CMP: defects, a high Cost of Consumable (CoC), an environmental problem. The slurry including abrasives especially gives rise to not only increase a CoC, but also prohibition from achieving an eco-process. This paper introduces an abrasive capsulation pad to achieve an eco-process decreasing abrasives used is CMP. The binder wth a water a water swelling and a water soluble characteristic is used for an auto-conditioning, and the $CeO_2$abrasive is selected for an abrasive capsulation pad. Comparing with a conventional CMP, an abrasive capsulation pad appears good characteristics in ILD CMP and is able to achieve an eco-process decreasing wasted slurry.

  • 마그네슘은 실용금속 중에서 열역학적으로 가장 활성이 큰 부류에 속하며, 그 표준적극전위는 -2.363VNHE (NHE: 수소표준전극기준)으로 대기중에서 표면부터 신속하게 산화되는 내식성에 큰 취약점을 가지고 있어, 내식성과 낮은 표면전기저항성을 갖는 마그네슘판재용 화성처리를 제안하기 위해 망간-인산염, 바나듐, 세륨, 불화 실리콘 등의 화합물로 구성되는 여러 가지의 화성처리용액을 제조한 뒤 침지처리시간을 달리하는 방법으로 마그네슘판재를 코팅하였다. 코팅된 시편을 이용하여 색상과 광택, 표면전기저항, 내식성 등에 대한 특성을 고찰하였다.
