  • We examined plants that were used as temple food in Jeju from May 2011 to January 2012. Thirty-six temples participated in the study, and there were 58 questionnaire respondents. Fifty-seven taxa were used as temple food, which belonged to 27 families, 51 genera, 55 species, and two varieties. The most commonly used family-based taxa were eight species of Compositae, six species of Cruciferae, and four species of Umbelliferae. Ten species of woody plants and 25 species of Jeju native plants were also used as temple food. The most useful part was the leaf, followed by the root, leaflet, and fruit. A patent search showed that most of the surveyed plants were covered by intellectual property rights. Forty-eight species had food-related patents, 34 species had cosmetics-related patents, and 38 species had medicine-related patents. The purchase and procurement of Jeju temple food plants usually depended on the market or plant cultivation rather than the use of the plants. Gathering of wild herbs for temple food has been performed on a limited basis. Therefore, collecting traditional knowledge for the use of Jeju plant resources should be conducted under different conditions rather than through a temple-related study.

  • The edible plants sold at the market in Busan were classified into 8 divisions, 11 classes, 46 orders, 67 families, 156 genera, 183 species and 45 varieties, and a total of 228 kinds of plants were included in them. Among the 228 kinds of edible plants, Angiospermae were the highest number of 202 kinds (88.60%), and next came Fungi of 9 kinds (3.95%), Phaeophyta of 5 kinds (2.19%), Rhodophyta of 4 kinds (1.75%), Pteridophyta of 3 kinds (1.32%) Gymnospermae of 2 kinds (0.88%), Chlorophyta of 2 kinds (0.88%), and Lichenes of 1 kind (0.44%) in order In the taxon of family, Cruciferae, Rosaceae, Leguminoceae, Cucurbitaceae, Umbelliferae, Compositae, Liliaceae, and Gramineae include many species. In the taxon of genus, Brassica(14 species), Prunus(9), Lactuca(9), Allium(7), Citrus(5), Cucumis(4), Cichorium(4) in order contain many species. Among tile edible plants, Chamjuknamu(Cedrela sinensis) is wrongly named Gajuknamu(Ailanthns altissima). And there are others which are called in a wrong way: Endive is wrongly called Chicory, Saeneutaribeoseot, Saesongi and Padeudeknamul(Japanese hornwort), Chamnamul. Gyul and Milgam, Geumgam and Gamgyul, Banana and Pacho, Paprika and Pimang(Pimento) are the names of the same plants. The number of the kinds of edible plants is different in each season. Fall has the most edible plants, and it is followed by spring, summer and winter. The edible parts of plants which are sold at the market are leaves, young sprouts, fruits, grains, roots, stems and petioles.

  • This study was conducted to obtain the basic information of edible resources among plant species. Potentials of resource plants were important in various usages, healthy food, medicinal materials, and breeding materials. Through our investigation 609 species of resources plants were considered as edible resources. These species belong to 74 families in which Asteraceae, Poaceae, Fabaceae, and Rosaceae were major families. Brassicaceae, Liliaceae, and Asteraceae contained large numbers of edible plants because plants belonged to these families were mainly used as vegetable. But Cyperaceae and Poaceae had relatively small numbers of species in the category of edible plant because plants belonged to these families have not been used directly as vegetables, common usage of edible plant. But Poaceae have a potentials as genetic donor for resistance-breeding strategies in major cereals. Although Poaceae can not be used as food directly, Poaceae should be investigated intensely in future for improvement of major cereals or application as fodder plants. The beneficial traits of edible plants as breeding materials have not been studied yet and development of new crop from plant resources requires the information about current situation in occurrence of resources plants genetically related to current crop species. Our results do not cover all plant species in Korea but this classification and identification about edible resources will provide primary information about plant resources. The collected seeds of resource plants showed wide spectrum in germination rate among plant species. The germination rate would probably be affected by collecting times, collected stage, and stored period. The proper methods about improving germination rate have to be elucidated to propagate the resource plants.

  • The rare and endangered plants in Naesorak area were investigated for four months during May to August in 1997, and the results were summarized as 35 taxa which is classified as 19 families, 32 species, and 3 varieties. At the level of families, 19 families such as Pinaceae(1 species), Taxaceae(1 species), Cupressaceae(1 species and 1 variety), Liliaceae(5 species and 1 variety), Aristolochiaceae(2 species), Ranunculaceae(4 species), Berberidaceae(1 species), Saxifragaceae(2 species), Rosaceae(1 species), Oleaceae(2 species and 1 variety), Solanaceae(1 species), Scrophulariaceae(1 species), Valerianaceae(1 species), Campanulaceae(1species), and Compositae(1 species) were recorded. The most of the habitats of the species was easily found along the major mountain trails, and a kind of destructions of these plants by human interferences is due to the fact that the illegal collections for food and medicine are occurred. Those species of Taxus caespitosa, Rhododendron aureum, Vaccinium bracteatum, Allium victoralis var. platyphullum and Leontice microryncha has a few individuals in habitats and also shows the unfavorable growing state, so the intensive and continuous habitat management of the habitats were inevitably dimanded.

  • This study was performed to establish an analytical method for the standardization of Angelicae Dahuricae Radix as a functional ingredient. We established six compounds including oxypeucedanin hydrate (1), byakangelcol (2), oxypeucedanin (3), imperatorin (4), phellopterin (5) and isoimperatorin (6) as marker compounds of Angelicae Dahuricae Radix. An analytical method using Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) was established and validated for marker compounds of Angelicae Dahuricae Radix. The specificity was confirmed by the chromatogram from UPLC and the value of coefficient determination was also higher than 0.999, indicating high linearity. The relative standard deviation (RSD) and recovery of marker compounds were less than 5% and in the range of 90- 110%, respectively, which means that this method has high accuracy and precision. Therefore, this analytical method could be used as basic data for the development of functional ingredients for health functional food of Angelicae Dahuricae Radix.

  • Genetic algorithm is one of the best ways to solve a discrete variable optimization problem. This method is an unconstrained optimization technique, so the constraints are handled in an implicit manner. The most popular way of handling constraints is to transform the original constrained problem into an unconstrained problem, using the concept of penalty function. I present the 3 fitness functions which represent the reject strategy, the penalty strategy, and the combined strategy. I make the design program using the 3 fitness Auctions and it is applied to the design problem of a gable frame and a 2 story 3 span frame.

  • Due to the abundance of information in Nuclear DNA, it has a magnificent phylogenetic resolution. Moreover, because they show biparental inheritance, it has proven to be superior to organelle DNA, which has a limited number of genes and only shows maternal lineage. In particular, the transcriptome, which includes much nuclear DNA but is relatively inexpensive to analyze, can provide valuable insights into evolution through selection analysis and enable gene function research. This study's dataset includes 45 transcriptomes (16 generated for this study). It aims to explore the evolutionary history of Apioideae by comparing the results of the phylogenetic analysis with gene tree discordance and chloroplast phylogeny. The results confirmed the taxonomic positions of Peucedanum terebinthaceum, Ligusticum tachiroei, and Cymopterus melanotilingia and proposed a genus change for Glehnia littoralis. High gene tree discordances were identified in recently diverged clades, suggesting frequent hybridization and introgression. In the most recently diverged tribe of Selineae, the highest number of PSGs (positively selected genes) has been confirmed, which is inferred to be due to the geological and climatic diversity of their originated habitat, Central Asia. These genes include those related to responses to growth and drought, oxidative, and salt stress. In particular, the CYP97A gene confirmed as PSGs in Bupleurum latissimum is inferred to be a result of adaptation to the light-limited environment of Ulleungdo Island, as it is associated with the efficiency of photosynthesis.

  • Stiffened plate structure, which is generally used in the various structural design to develope the load carrying capacity, is classified in two groups; one is the plate stiffened with stiffeners, the other is corrugated plate. In the studies on those structures, the studies on the stiffened plates with stiffeners have been much studied with both quantities and qualities according to requirements of the minimum-weight structural design and the development in many industrial fields, especially automobile, ship and aerospace fields, but the studies on the corrugated plates are undeveloped in comparison with the stiffened plates, and also the analytical stiffness on the corrugated plates remains as the imperfect. In the present studies, the analytical method on the stiffness of corrugated plates made by folding is proposed, and the stiffness equation of corrugated plates with some angle is derived and generalized. The purpose of the present study is to contribute to the design of corrugated plates and to determine the optimum aspect ratio for parameters that decide the aspect of corrugated plates.
