  • This paper presents a compression algorithm applicable for transmitting a HPO hologram data. The proposed algorithm exploits a modulating function to compress the bandwidth of the hologram pattern, resulting in decimation due to relaxed Nyquist sampling constraints. At the receiver, the compressed data will be interpolated and compensated via being divided by the modulating function. We also present compression rate and analyze the resolution of a reconstructed image and the periodicity of harmonic interferences. Finally, we shows the validity of the proposed algorithm by simulation where a reconstructed image from undersampled data is compared with a reconstructed image obtained through decimatioin by modulating function, interpolation and compensation.

  • This study has been conducted to develop the techniques for spat production of the sun and moon scallop from January 1995 to December 1996. With the adult scallops collected from the Sogwipo area, spawning induction and larvae rearing were attempted several times and monthly changes of GSI were also monitored during the experimental period. The results obtained wre as follows. 1. GSI started to increase from June and showed the maximum value of 22.17 and 14.98 in female and male respectively in November, and then gradually decreased from December. 2. Spawning induction by heating method turned out to the most efficient way showing the responding rate of 64.8~91.5%. The responding temperature was $21.4~26.4{\circ}C$ which was $3.1~8.5{\circ}C$ increased from the rearing temperature of $16.3~18.3{\circ}C$. An average number of eggs spawned was $9.2{\times}10^5$ 3. the average size of eggs after fertilization was about $72{\mu}m$ in diameter. The first polar body discharge, blastula formation, and trochopore larvae appearance occurred 30 mininutes, 18 hours, and 22 hours after fertilization respectively. 4. Settling rates in various collectors were similar one another, whereas pouring larvae in the mesh was the most efficient way for larval setting. 5. The spates grew to be 1mm in their shell length for the first 50 days after fertilization and 9.6mm in 135days. 6. Correlation between shell length (SL) of the spat and the number of days (X) after spat settlement could be expressed as $SL=257.75e ^{0.0272x}$(r=0.9100).

  • To investigate the enhancement in strength and deformation capacities of concrete confined by FRP composites, tests under axial loads were carried out on three groups of thirty six short columns in circular section with diverse GFRP confining reinforcement. The major test variables considered include fiber content or orientation, wrap or tube type by varying the end loading condition, and continuous or discontinuous confinement depending on the presence of vortical spices between its two halves. The circumferential FRP strains at failure for different types of confinements were also investigated with emphasis. Various analytical models capable of predicting the ultimate strength and strain of the confined concrete were examined by comparing to observed results. Tests results showed that FRP wraps or tubes provide the substantial increase in strength and deformation, while partial wraps comprising the vertical discontinuities fail in an explosive manner with less increase in strength, particularly in deformation. A bilinear stress-strain response was observed throughout all tests with some variations of strain hardening. The failure hoop strains measured on the FRP surface were less than those obtained from the tensile coupons in all tests with a high degree of variation. In overall, existing predictive equations overestimated ultimate strengths and strains observed in present tests, with a much larger scatter related to the latter. For more accuracy, two simple design- oriented equations correlated with present tests are proposed. The strength equation was derived using the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, whereas the strain equation was based on entirely fitting of test data including the unconfined concrete strength as one of governing factors.

  • Purpose: To evaluate dose distribution differences when the dose rates are randomly changed in intensity-modulated radiation therapy using a dynamic multileafcollimator. Materials and Methods: Two IMRT treatment plans including small-field and large-field plans were made using a commercial treatment planning system (Eclipse, Varian, Palo Alto, CA). Each plan had three sub-plans according to various dose rates of 100, 400, and 600 MU/min. A chamber array (2D-Array Seven729, PTW-Freiburg) was positioned between solid water phantom slabs to give measurement depth of 5 cm and backscattering depth of 5 cm. Beam deliveries were performed on the array detector using a 6 MV beam of a linear accelerator (Clinac 21EX, Varian, Palo Alto, CA) equipped with 120-leaf MLC (Millenium 120, Varian). At first, the beam was delivered with same dose rates as planned to obtain reference values. After the standard measurements, dose rates were then changed as follows: 1) for plans with 100 MU/min, dose rate was varied to 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 MU/min, 2) for plans with 400 MU/min, dose rate was varied to 100, 200, 300, 500 and 600 MU/min, 3) for plans with 600 MU/min, dose rate was varied to 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 MU/min. Finally, using an analysis software (Verisoft 3.1, PTW-Freiburg), the dose difference and distribution between the reference and dose-rate-varied measurements was evaluated. Results: For the small field plan, the local dose differences were -0.8, -1.1, -1.3, -1.5, and -1.6% for the dose rate of 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 MU/min, respectively (for 100 MU/min reference), +0.9, +0.3, +0.1, -0.2, and -0.2% for the dose rate of 100, 200, 300, 500, 600 MU/min, respectively (for 400 MU/min reference) and +1.4, +0.8, +0.5, +0.3, and +0.2% for the dose rate of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 MU/min, respectively (for 600 MU/min reference). On the other hand, for the large field plan, the pass-rate differences were -1.3, -1.6, -1.8, -2.0, and -2.4% for the dose rate of 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 MU/min, respectively (for 100 MU/min reference), +2.0, +1.8, +0.5, -1.2, and -1.6% for the dose rate of 100, 200, 300, 500, 600 MU/min, respectively (for 400 MU/min reference) and +1.5, +1.9, +1.7, +1.9, and +1.2% for the dose rate of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 MU/min, respectively (for 600 MU/min reference). In short, the dose difference of dose-rate variation was measured to the -2.4~+2.0%. Conclusion: Using the Varian linear accelerator with 120 MLC, the IMRT dose distribution is differed a little <(${\pm}3%$) even though the dose-rate is changed.

  • It is recommended that the door of control room is closed during radiography to protect a radiologic technologist. However, for those patients such as of emergency or pediatrics, the door must be kept open unavoidably to apply immediate medical administration and treatment on the potential case of emergency which could be happened through the course of radiography. In addition, it could be efficient by reducing patients waiting time when the door is open for a general case. This study was conducted to evaluate practical exposure rate to a radiologic technologist when the door is open during the radiography, and to find out the ways to minimize radiation exposure and to increase the efficiency simultaneously. Measuring practical exposure rate was fulfilled with glass dosimeter, and it was 2.02 mGy/week at the location of radiologic technologist under the condition that the door is open during the radiography, which was about 2.3 times higher than the 100 mR/week. It means that the considerable amount of scattered rays through the door opening, and increase exposure rate at the radiologic technologist. Hence we confirmed that a radiologic technologist probably overexposed if the door is open during the radiography. It was also confirmed by the Monte Carlo simulation that the exposure rate could be reduced up to approximately 1/100 by change only the door opening direction. In conclusion, since the proper door opening direction provides same shielding effect whether it is open or close, the door opening direction need to be considered when it is installed at radiography facilities.

  • In this study, an algorithm that recognizes numbers from 0 to 9 was developed using the data obtained after tracking hand movements using the echo signal of a millimeter-wave radar sensor at 77 GHz. The echo signals obtained from the radar sensor by detecting the motion of a hand gesture revealed a cluster of irregular dots due to the difference in scattering cross-sectional area. A valid center point was obtained from them by applying a K-Means algorithm using 3D coordinate values. In addition, the obtained center points were connected to produce a numeric image. The recognition rate was compared by inputting the obtained image and an image similar to human handwriting by applying the smoothing technique to a CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) model trained with MNIST (Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology database). The experiment was conducted in two ways. First, in the recognition experiments using images with and without smoothing, average recognition rates of 77.0% and 81.0% were obtained, respectively. In the experiment of the CNN model with augmentation of learning data, a recognition rate of 97.5% and 99.0% on average was obtained in the recognition experiment using the image with and without smoothing technique, respectively. This study can be applied to various non-contact recognition technologies using radar sensors.

  • This study was conducted to examine the effect of salinity on the early embryonic development stage of boreal digging frogs (Kaloula borealis). An experiment was carried out with the eggs of K. borealis mating couples laid along the coastal zone of Jeju Island in June 2013. The salinity was set to 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 ‰, respectively. The survival and growth of the larvae at various stages from the egg phase to the closing of their external gills phase were observed. In another experiment, tadpoles in internal gill stage were placed in solutions with salinity of 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 ‰, respectively, and their survival rate and growth rate were observed, and then the results of the two experiments above were compared. The results showed that in egg and external gill stage, there was no significant difference in survival rate in 3 ‰ solution, though there was low survival rate in 5 ‰ solution. Further, all the eggs were dead in 7 ‰ solution, so it appeared that solutions with salinity of 5 ‰ or higher affect the survival of K. borealis in the early embryonic development. Larvae in the internal gill stage showed no significant difference in survival rate from the control group up to a salinity of 5 ‰, but when placed in a solution of over 7 ‰ salinity, the survival rate decreased. The growth rate also slowed down with the higher salinity. It appeared that in both the external gill stage and the internal gill stage in 5 ‰ solution, the growth rate decreased significantly compared to the control group. From this study it is concluded that higher salinity values have a significant impact on the survival and growth of the K. borealis larvae and this finding can be used to conserve K. borealis species that are decreasing in number due to the side effects of development in coastal areas.

  • Residual and biological effects of buprofezin(25% WP) on the larvae of the brown planthopper(BPH), Ni/aparvata /ugens SUlI, were studied by pot experiments. Residual lethal effects on the 2nd instar larvae lasted significantly long, and were higher with application rates. The rate of 17.50 g a.i./10a showed ca. 90% mortality even on 35 days after treatment (OAT). $RLT_{90}$ and $RLT_{50}$(residual lethal time that can show 90% and 50% mortality, respectively) with rates of 5.78-11.50 g a.i./lOa were 9.0-13.5, and 16.8-22.8 days, respectively. It was estimated that 13.00 and 4.44 g a.i./lOa were the rates of buprofezin which could show mortalities of 2nd instar BPH larvae above 95% and 50% until 15 OAT, respectively. The residual lethal effect of 7.00 g a.i./10a on the 1st instar BPH larvae was 100 % even on 17 OAT. $RLT_{50}$ was 32.5 days which was 15 days longer than $RLT_{50}$ for the 2nd instar larvae. Buprofezin with 7.0 g a.i./lOa showed 100% and 70% mortality for 1st-4th and 5th instar BPH larvae, respectively. Longevity of a female BPH which emerged from the 5th instar larvae treated by buprofezin was greatly reduced, and its fecundity was nearly zero.

  • This study investigated the effect of rearing conditions on the spawning habit, juvenile growth and larvae development of Marphysa sanguinea, to develop techniques of its artificial seed production. M. sanguinea released trochophore larvae around the burrow when the water temperature was from $18^{\circ}C$ to $22^{\circ}C$. Larvae floated away after staying in the burrow for a while. Larvae secreted mucus eight days after release, covering their whole body with it, and developed ten somites 20 days after release. In preference of juveniles in different grain sizes of sediment, the highest survival rate was made in the grain substrate of $1{\sim}2$ mm in the mean diameter, but the lowest was in the $2{\sim}3$ mm grain substrate. Optimum growth was obtained at the rearing temperature of $24^{\circ}C$(SGR 1.10%), and it reached over $2{\sim}3$ times higher weight gain and specific growth rate than those reared at $21^{\circ}C(0.64),\;18^{\circ}C(0.56)$ and $15^{\circ}C$(0.42) for 50 days. Salinity also made a great difference in the growth and survival rate. The highest weight gain and growth rate were shown when the juveniles were reared at salinity 30 psu.

  • Development of T. urticae was studied on the leaves of eggplant grown in hydroponics with potash contents of 0 mM, 2 mM, 6 mM, and 12 mM. As the levels of potash increased, that of nitrogen decreased and that of P, K, Mg increased in the plant. While contents of crude protein and fiber decreased, those of ash and sugar increased. Carbohydrate content was the highest at 2 mM. Water contents increased as those of potash increased with the exception at 0 mM. Biomass was the heaviest as 552.7 g at 6 mM and the lightest at 0 mM. Leaf thickness and the content of chlorophyll increased as the content of potash increased. Laboratory leaf disc tests provided with various potash levels revealed that feeding and oviposition preferences of T. urticae were high at 6 mM and 12 mM, respectively. Ratio of damaged leaf by naturally occurring T. urticae on eggplants of 99 days post-transplant in the greenhouse was the highest at 6 mM. Development of immature stages of T. urticae shortened as the levels of potash increased with a less tendancy in male than in female. No differences were detected in adult longevity and oviposition period but the number of eggs laid was the most as 84.7 at 6 mM and the least as 40.6 at 0 mM. There were no differences in the rate of egg hatch and the ratio of sex. $R_o,\;r_m,\;and\;{\lambda}$ were the highest at 6 mM and the lowest at 0 mM. T and Dt were the lowest at 6 mM and the highest at 0 mM. There was a descending trand of T. urticae developmet when levels of potash either gets high or low in the hydroponics.
