  • This study noted that elementary school students were unable to accurately comprehend the principles of moon phase changes and that teachers themselves lacked a full understanding of it as well. Therefore, this study classifies conception types through 161 5th grade respondents and suggests how to change students' conception types through the use of reconstructed teaching and learning materials (that have been developed in existing studies). It verified the changes in the learning achievement of 129 5th grade respondents and analyzed how to think about reconstructed teaching and learning materials through four teacher respondents and four 5th grade respondents from the same study. The results of this study are as follows: First, the conception types on moon phase changes were classified into C and W types. W types consisted of W1, W2, W3, W4, and W5 types. Students had difficulty in understanding the principles of a waxing crescent moon and first quarter phase changes. Second, the group taking classes, which implemented reconstructed teaching and learning materials, showed greater improvement in learning achievement posttest and long-term tests compared to those who have not. Finally, teachers and students reacted positively to the reconstructed teaching and learning materials as shown in exit survey results. In conclusion, it is suggested that teachers are better off utilizing reconstructed teaching and learning materials so that elementary school students may fully understand the principles of moon phase changes rather than just memorizing the results.

  • This study looked into the effects of acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT) program on the premenstrual symptoms, attitudes toward menstruation and perceived stress, in females in their 20's suffering from premenstrual syndrome(PMS). Among the 263 students from 3~4 year universities, 21 were selected as participants. 7 were assigned to the acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT) group, 7 were assigned to the cognitive behavior therapy(CBT) group, and 7 were assigned to the control group. As a result, emotional factor from the premenstrual symptoms has significantly decreased more in the acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT) group, and the cognitive behavior therapy(CBT) group in comparison to the control group. In regards to attitudes toward menstruation, there were no statistical significance in the acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT) group, however there were positive changes, and the cognitive behavior therapy(CBT) group displayed significant change in the follow-up study. In perceived stress, acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT) group displayed more significant decrease than the control group and the cognitive behavior therapy(CBT) group, and that level remained unchanged until the follow-up study.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of metacognitive instruction model on the changes of science concepts, when it was applied to 6th grade students. To do this, students were tested with the achievement of molecules and molecular motion concepts and metacognitive self-regulation test as a pretest Based upon metacognitive instruction model and student's conception, instruction program were developed. This metacognitive strategy Program was applied to the experimental group and expository teaching was applied to the comparison group (followed the order and method in authorized science textbook and teachers handbook). When planned lessons were finished, students were given a post-test to find conceptual change. After six months students were given a test again to find retention effect. There was a significant difference in conceptual change and retention between comparison group and experimental group by treatment at p< .05 level, The difference between comparison group and experimental group was especially significant, when the situation of test item wasn't similar to that of the textbook Metacognitive instruction model was more effective to high group than low group in metacognitive self-regulation level on conceptual change and retention. So the metacognitive strategy Played an important role in conceptual change and retention. And we can recognize that the students who take part in the metacognitive lesson can apply the corrected concept to the other concrete situation because they can understand new concept accurately by metacognitive strategies. And we can guess that high group in metacognitive self-regulation level can team metacognitive strategy easily but relatively low group student have some trouble in learning new strategy.

  • This study was conducted to explore the effect of the type of dashboard on online group discussion activities based on learning analysis. The experimental research was conducted among 51 learners from a university by dividing them into 2 groups. Group A provided participation and interaction dashboard, and group B provided the discussion topics and message type dashboard. First, pre-tests were conducted on attitudes toward computer writing and the level of motivation that could affect online discussion activities. Then the students participated three different topics of online group discussions. The participation and interaction data were automatically collected through the dashboard, and learning outcome data were collected through post-tests. The results showed level of participation in Group B (M=47.56, SD=2.37) that provided discussion topics and message type dashboard was significantly higher than the level of participation in Group A (M=38.13, SD=2.21) that provided participation and interaction dashboard. On the other hand, there were no differences in the level of interaction and learning outcomes. In future studies, we suggest that the dashboard effects based on the learners' characteristics should be carried out because the learners' characteristics may affect the use of the dashboard.

  • The purposes of this study were to compare the effects of one or two applications of all-in-one adhesives on microtensile bond strengths (${\mu}$TBS) to unground enamel and to investigate the morphological changes in enamel surfaces treated with these adhesives using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Twenty-five noncarious, unrestored human mandibular molars were used. The unground enamel surfaces were cleansed with pumice. The following adhesives were applied to lingual, mid-coronal surfaces according to manufacture's directions; Clearfil SE bond in SE group, Adper Prompt L-Pop$^{TM}$1 coat in LP1 group, 2 coats in LP2 group, Xeno$^{\R}$III1 coat in XN1 group, and 2 coats in XN2 group. After application of the adhesives, a hybrid light-activated resin composite was built up on the unground enamel. Each tooth was sectioned to make a cross-sectional area of approximately 1.0 mm$^2$ for each stick. The microtensile bond strength was determined. Each specimen was observed under SEM to examine the morphological changes. Data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA. The results of this study were as follows; 1. The microtensile bond strength values were; SE (19.77 ${\pm}$ 2.44 MPa), LP1 (13.88 ${\pm}$ 3.67 MPa), LP2 (14.50 ${\pm}$ 2.52 MPa), XN1 (14.42 ${\pm}$ 2.51 MPa) and XN2 (15.28 ${\pm}$ 2.79 MPa). SE was significantly higher than the other groups in bond strength (p < 0.05). All groups except SE were not significantly different in bond strength (p < 0.05). 2. All groups were characterized as shallow and irregular etching patterns.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the correlation between the cognitive level and the probabilistic thinking level and to analyze the effects of the probability activities in Thinking Science (TS) program on the development of probabilistic thinking. The 219 7th grade students were sampled in the middle school and were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The probability activities in TS program were implemented to the experimental group, while only normal curriculum was conducted in the control group. The results of this study showed that most of 7th grade students were in the concrete operational stage and used both subjective and quantitative strategy simultaneously in probability problem solving. It was also found that the higher the cognitive level of the students, the higher the probabilistic thinking level of them. The sample space and the probability of an event in the constructs of probability were first developed as compared to the probability comparisons and the conditional probability. The probability activities encouraged the students to use quantitative strategy in probability problem solving and to recognize probability of an event. Especially, the effectiveness was relatively higher for the students in the mid concrete operational stage than those in any other stage.
