  • The theory of customer-based brand equity emphasizes the importance of brand awareness and brand image or associations in building a strong brand. Marketing scholars have recently begun to identify the two types of corporate associations, that is, corporate ability(CA) and corporate social responsibility(CSR) associations, which had long been conceptualized as a unidimensional construct of corporate image in the literature. In line with the new research stream, I'm developed a research model concerning how CA and CSR associations are related to credibility-based and benevolence-based trust, which in turn will affect emotional trust and consumer attitudes toward company. As for the hypothesized paths, the results confirm that all of the them are supported(H1-H6). First, CA associations have a significant positive relationship with credibility-based trust, and CSR associations are positively related to benevolence-based trust. Second, both dimensions of trust show strong and positive influences on emotional trust. In addition, credibility-based trust directly affect attitude toward firm in the foreign company. But credibility-based trust not affect attitude toward firm in the domestic company.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to identify the associations of social capital with suicidal thoughts and attempts in Korean communities with poor health. Methods: We used the data from community health interviews conducted at 40 administrative sections (dong, eup, or myeon) with high mortality from August to October in 2010, 2011, and 2012 as part of the Health Plus Happiness Plus Projects in Gyeongsangnam-do Province. The 8,800 study subjects composed of 220 adults systematically sampled from each administrative section were asked if they had thought about suicide or had attempted suicide within 1 year. The social participation was measured with 'participation in formal and/or informal group' and trust using responses to three questions about trust of others. Results: The prevalence of suicidal ideation and attempt within 1 year were 10.4% and 0.8%, respectively. The logistic regression analysis revealed that those who participated in only informal groups, or had highest trust level reported less suicidal ideation, or attempt after adjusting for socio-demographic factors (sex, age, marital status, occupation, and food affordability), self-rated health, and health behaviors (smoking, alcohol drinking, and exercise). Conclusions: This study suggested social capital such as social participation and trust was associated with less suicide ideation and attempt. More studies are warranted for the association of social capital with suicidal behavior.

  • This study purports to empirically examine the potential effect of the level of social trust on their welfare consciousness level. Although previous studies in the field have focused on socio-economic or class-oriented variables, the accumulated results have shown that the effects were inconsistent at best in Korean context. In order to overcome the limits of theoretical assumptions from mainstream Marxists and institutionalists, this study suggests the relative autonomy of social consciousness and its independent effect on welfare consciousness. The analysis shows that both foundational variables, income levels and labor market participation, and the level of social trust have significant impacts upon the respondents' level of welfare consciousness.

  • The present research investigated the psychological nature of low levels of trust in Korean society and the role of family expansionism, a cultural psychological factor, in this phenomenon. Specifically, we examined the possibility that Koreans' distrust toward social system is, at least partially, due to high standards for trust, which might be closely related to Koreans' cultural characteristic of family expansionism. In Study 1, the relations between levels of family expansionism, trust standards, and actual levels of trust for parents, judiciary, and politicians were examined among 540 Korean adults. In Study 2, we manipulated levels of family expansionism to examine its effect on trust standards. Results showed that trust standards were higher for politicians than parents. Participants' trust standards for politics were unrealistically high, especially on the responsibility factor. Actual levels of trust for judiciary and politicians were low when the trust standards for these targets relative to trust standards for parents were high. Moreover, the trust standards and levels of trust for judiciary and politicians (relative to those for parents) were positively correlated to levels of family expansionism. In other words, higher levels of family expansionism were linked to higher trust standards and levels of distrust for judiciary and politicians. In addition, Study 2 results showed that trust standards became high when family expansionism was induced. Unlike previous studies which focused on causes of low levels of trust while assuming that Korean society itself is a low trust society, the present research investigated the underlying mechanism behind the seemingly low trust in Korean society.

  • This study examined the relationship among dropout, organizational trust, and intention to transfer in the department affiliated with Physical Education. Data were collected from 480 students in the department affiliated with Physical Education from 6 institutions of a 4-year university located in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Incheon, and ChungChong-do. For the research model analysis, a structural equation model and bootstrapping were conducted. Results indicated that the academic domain, the social domain, and the environmental domain of dropout had a positive effect on organizational trust. But the only the academic domain in the relationship between dropout and intention to transfer affected intention to transfer positively. The social domain and the environmental domain were not statistically significant on intention to transfer. Moreover, organizational trust had a positive effect on intention to transfer. Finally, organizational trust partially mediated the path between the academic domain and intention to transfer. It fully mediated the paths between the social domain and the environmental domain and intention to transfer.

  • This study aimed to discover the effects of CSR activities on manufacturing employees' organizational trust and job satisfaction. A proposed model based on previous research was empirically tested via structural equation modeling by AMOS using 374 valid samples collected from current employees of D-Heavy Industries & Construction in Chang Won. The results of the empirical analysis are summarized as follows. CSR activities had a partially direct impact on job satisfaction and organizational trust. It has been confirmed that organizational trust has a partial mediation effect(full mediation effect) in the process of CSR activities and job satisfaction. These findings indicate that there exist interrelationships among entrepreneurship, internal and external CSR activities, organizational trust, and job satisfaction. In particular, the importance of CSR activities were identified in terms of effective organizational management by confirming their impact on organizational trust of employees. In addition, organizational trust was verified as an antecedent factor to improve job satisfaction.
