  • In this thesis, I will look into how contemporary Korean Design has changed and been alienated from tradition as well as distorted history (chapter 2, 3); point out what the problem is in finding out the cultural identity of the field of design(chapter 4); and finally, I will present a new starting point for independent discussion regarding the direction of Korean design (chapter 5). The purpose of this thesis is to present an opportunity to reconsider the numerous irrationalities caused by an industrial view of design as an outdated paradigm and a cultural identity distorted by the leading policies of the contemporary political authority. In addition, by proposing a new direction to the following discussion on Korean design, it is my desire to examine a realistic plan for cultural discourse which is essential for Korean design in an information-oriented age.

  • Eduardo Galeano is a left-wing intellectual who led the criticism and accusations of dictatorship and social absurdity in Latin America. It digs into the truth of hidden history that has not been revealed in official history. He values the memory of history to stop repetition of the unfortunate history of the past. The main research topic of this study, 『The Book of Embraces』, is also an extension of such work. Most of the stories in this work depend on the writer's memory. There is no coherence or integration in the content of the story, and the length of the text is not constant, so it is extremely informal and fragmented. This is a strategy to formally reveal the illogical and irrational reality of Latin America. He analyzes the problems of the separation system prevalent in Latin American society from various perspectives. It separates me and the others as well as the past and the present. It makes the memory of history void and paralyzes the consciousness of history. These systems are fixed for convenient governance. In this situation, the pattern of violence becomes more explicit and broad. The anxiety and fear of the Latin American public become commonplace. It is a reality of enduring daily life without hope. Galeano finds this enduring force in historical memory. He believes that when the past and the present meet and embrace, a new history of the future can be encountered. Galeano does not just criticize reality or cynical attitude but also suggests hope for the future.

  • The trust toward the researchers and their study activities in society has faltered, in the wake of the paper fabrication event of researcher, Hwang Woo-Suk's doctor research team. After the event, researcher community and scientific community have experienced many changes through the self-reflection or the process of insight meditation. Until now, we have experienced that when researcher community leads the way to try to show their efforts to eliminate the raised doubts throughly, the public support toward researcher community and the trust in its study activity have not faltered. Nevertheless, the path for the researchers to go is still far and rough because the opposite cases coping with research misconducts passively are much more. Therefore It's urgent that misconducts in the research and learning should be avoided from unnecessary overinterpretation. To practice it, above all it's important how well researcher or learner should be equipped with a system where decision is made autonomously and reasonably, regardless of the interests from all fields including politic, economic and social etc. It's also required that their systems should be meticulous enough to prevent such irrationality in advance before the misconduct instances are depreciated. In this context, I will investigate the reason why research and development on norms in research ethics and learning ethics is meaningful, not in a posteriori but a priori dimension, as the way to have researcher and learner prepare autonomous self-purification systems. It's essential that for the progress of an obvious argument, first, what research ethics and learning ethics are should be established and defined distinctly(2). Then in the process, it is also examined why research ethics and learning ethics need norms(3). Subsequently I will conclude the paper, arguing the reason why research ethics and learning ethics should be justified(4), if the norms in research ethics and learning ethics can be formulated(5).

  • In the 30th edition of , Chunhyang is conventionally presented as a woman who tries to protect her chastity and it eventually bears the fruits of her love. On the other hand in , Chunhyang is reinterpreted as a woman who strives to protect feminist self-consciousness and beliefs, even in unreasonable social situations. By comparing the two different works, we can see differences in the behavior of the characters in how to overcome various obstacles, such as irregularity, gender discrimination, and identity conflict. By reinterpreting the emotions of the characters in the classic novel into the emotions of the modern characters, we can see the how the characters grow when trying to overcome the situation and find a solution, even though there is no change yet. This can be seen as the emotions of the characters become different as time goes by. As the times go by, the world's values and inclinations also change, and the irrationalities of the world will also go in various directions. Through the fusion of culture into history, even though it's irrational but we become familiar with it and will clearly understand the absurdities, and we can look forward to changes in the process.

  • This study tries to examine the emotion of the elite characters in Son Jangsoon's early novel, The Koreans. In this novel, most characters are found to have an envy feeling, except for two female characters, Heeyeon and Sue Han. Although the writer does not consciously explore the envy feeling here, she excellently represents the harmful effects of the envy feeling. In this novel, the envy feeling is related to the desire for success and its frustration. In 1960's, people had high expectation of improvement in their individual lives. The elite groups were more likely to have a successful life with good education. But in this novel, these elite people suffer from frustration of their desire and experience of the envy feeling. The impressive point in this novel is that not only females but also males are shown to have the envy feeling. Envious people have the tendency to compare themselves with people around them, to feel shame in an inferior position and to aspire for superiority. In these envious characters, the feeling of envy reveals their lack, their inferiority and it never provides them with the way to escape from their suffering situation. The writer suggests that the envy feeling can be overcome by pursuing other valuable things and focussing not on other people's desire but on their own desire.

  • On Kawara's works are not only artworks but are also his personal daily records. He produced many artworks whose theme centered on his everyday life, a plan that he had precisely made. He selected several specific themes from his daily life: when and where he met someone, what he read, and where he traveled. Kawara constantly recorded his daily life using various types of unconventional medium: maps, postcards, and telegrams. Although he was occupied with recording his everyday life, he was also active in forming public opinions on various issues through social media. Kawara's works, which exhibit a distinctive characteristic of himself, could be classified as individual records because it includes an individual's daily life and selected issues. His artworks express concern for or expose the irrationality of his society, which encourages ordinary people to let their voices be heard and take part in public affairs. Thus, his works function not just as art but also as precious historical records.

  • An animation is a tool to represent the consciousness of an author. It is a medium that converts his/her consciousness to time by the means of spaces. Image is the most inherent element among the elements of an animation. Character is the element that has the very core function among the elements of an image because a character is a shape that can deliver a story through various actions and facial expressions. In this context, is a representative satire animation that describes a ranked and unequal human society and selfishness and absurdity of human beings existed in the human society, based on the original work of George Orwell. Therefore, this study aims to study what the work tries to satirize through the meanings and symbols that the characters, animals, and spaces in the work. As a result of the study, it was found that the characters appeared in the work are metaphoric symbols that imply the meanings of each character, not just simple characters or spaces. In the work, the farm is a symbolic space that symbolizes a human world. John, a human being, is described as a dictator in an absolute Russian monarchy who suppresses people. Old Major, a pig, is described as an old pioneer that preaches the appropriation of a revolution while Snow Ball, a pig that follows the Major is described as a naive leader that dreams to establish a real socialist state where everybody lives equal, through successful revolution. Another pig, Napoleon is described as the more greedy dictator than human being. He killed Snow Ball for his private ambition and suppresses and exploits the same race, animals. That is, setting man and various animals in the relation of dominant class and subordinated class, the author generates conflicts among characters. Although the characters pursue an ideal society through revolution, it requires another revolution in the process, which expresses repetitive contradiction of human history in a symbolic and strong way.
