Singapore's Higher Social Gender Equality and Girls' Higher Mathematics Achievement in TIMSS 2011 (싱가포르의 높은 양성평등수준과 TIMSS 2011에 나타난 여학생의 높은 수학성취도)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine (1) if sociocultural factors that are known to influence gender gap in mathematics achievement are gender equitable for Singaporean eighth grade students, (2) if there is a higher level of gender equitability in students' attitudes towards mathematics and (3) how sociocultural factors influence mathematics achievement for Singaporean eighth grade students. This study is based on 5,923 Singaporean eighth grade students who participated in TIMSS 2011 assessment. The study found that there were no statistically significant gender differences in 'parental involvement in education' and 'teacher efficacy.' There were no statistically significant gender differences in students' attitudes of 'like learning mathematics,' and 'value learning mathematics'. A significant gender difference was identified for the attitude of 'confident with mathematics.' The boys displayed a higher level of confidence in mathematics than the girls consistent with other study findings for Asian students. The degree of effect from 'parental involvement in education,' 'teacher efficacy,' and 'confident with mathematics' on mathematics achievement are found to be stronger for girls than boys. The finding implies that girls' mathematics achievement can benefit from having more positive encouragement and involvement of parents and teachers and strengthening confidence in mathematics.

Relationships of Changing Social Atmosphere, Lifestyle and Bone Mineral Density in College Students (대학생의 골밀도와 사회분위기 및 생활습관과의 관계)

  • The decrease of bone mineral density gives rise to the outbreak of osteopenia and makes the possibility of a bone fracture. It makes health problems in society. It's very important to prevent osteopenia in advance. Also it's critical to prevent and take care of it in adolescent because it's the most developing period comparing to middle ages because that bone mineral density decreases. There are genetic, physical and enviromental factors that affect bone mineral density. Recently, a lifestyle and eating habits are also changing as the society atmosphere is gradually doing. This study have shown that 134 women and 75 men was chosen and responded to the survey of measuring bone mineral density and investigating a lifestyle. The measure of bone mineral density is to use Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA) and check femoral neck and lumbar spine. Also questionaries was required to pre-made survey about their lifestyles. Analysis of data was done with SPSS program. Multiple regression analysis was used for the relation of bone mineral density, the heigths and BMI. The sample of Groups are checked for drinking, smoking or excercising about differences by t-test. The results of the experiments were; first, there is statistically significant differences in the comparisons between BMD and BMD. But there isn't any special correlation between drinking, smoking and BMD. Secondly, bone mineral density becomes low related to an intake of caffeine. Particularly, this is statically significant on women. Also there is statically significant correlation between femoral neck and quantity of motion for both men and women. Third, there is significant relation between eating habits and bone mineral density on women's lumbar spine. However, there is no significant relation between men's lumbar spine and women's one. Therefore, to prevent osteopenia, it's good to abstain from intaking caffeine within an hour after a meal. In addition, it's helpful to walk or run regularly and have a balanced meal.

  • 최근 선진국에서는 지역사회의 지역특성, 대비능력 등을 토대로 맞춤형 재난 대비책을 마련하여 시행하고 있다. 이는 중앙정부의 한정된 자원을 효율적으로 배분하고, 지방정부는 지역의 취약성을 파악하여 구체적 적응정책의 방향성 제시를 가능하게 한다. 우리나라 역시 재해위험에 대한 각 지역의 방재능력을 여러 가지 방법으로 진단하고 있으나 대부분 지역의 인구, 재정력, 시설, 인력, 자원 확보 및 계획 등 정량적 정보만을 종합하여 위험도를 진단하고 있어 재해위험에 대한 지역민과 지역사회가 느끼는 취약성을 제대로 반영하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 홍수 취약성 개념 틀을 정의하고 지역사회를 기반으로 취약성을 평가할 수 있는 홍수피해저감지수(Flood Disaster Risk Reduction Index, FDRRI)를 개발하였다. FDRRI는 지형적 기상적 요인을 고려한 홍수노출지표, 사회적요인과 과거피해 요인을 고려한 민감도지표, 지역안전도 피해저감능력지수를 고려한 피해저감능력지표, 지역민의 대비능력을 나타내는 지역사회대비능력 지표를 결합하여 평가된다. 특히, 지역사회대비능력지표는 지역민 설문조사를 통해 지역민의 역량을 정량화한 것으로 본 연구에서 처음으로 도입한 것이다. FDRRI의 적용성 검토를 위해 지형적 특성, 홍수피해정도 등을 고려하여 낙동강 유역의 경북 봉화, 김천, 경남 고성, 김해를 시범지역으로 선정하고 FDRRI를 산정하였으며 타당성을 검증하였다. FDRRI는 홍수위험에 대한 지역의 저감능력을 잘 반영하고 있으며, 지역별 맞춤형 저감대책 및 지역사회가 참여한 지속가능한 재난관리 정책 수립 등에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Development of Evaluation Model for Learning Company Participating Work-Study Parallel Program using AHP (AHP를 활용한 일학습병행 학습기업 평가모형 개발)

  • This study aims to establish an evaluation model by quantifying the evaluation index as a follow-up study to the development of evaluation index for work-study parallel learning companies. An evaluation model was established by verifying the 2nd level components based on the quantitative factors of the learning company, the qualitative factors, the competency factors of the person in charge, and the competency factors of the learning workers, which are the highest-level components derived from previous study. For the evaluation of a learning company, an AHP survey was conducted with experts in charge of the company consulting to derive important factors that determine the quality of on-site education and training, and the evaluation model of the learning company was completed and grouped by calculating the weight between evaluation items proceeded. Work-study parallel program was promoted as a key policy to resolve the mismatch between industrial sites and school education and realize a competency-centered society, and as of December 2022, 16,664 companies participated in the training. Learning companies play a very important role as education and training supply organizations that conduct field training. It is expected that the support and consulting plan for each level of learning companies according to the evaluation model presented in this study will be used as basic data to improve the quality of work-study parallel program.

A study on the parenting stress factors and the copying strategies of marriage immigrant women raising middle and high school student (중·고등학생 자녀를 양육하는 결혼이주여성의 양육스트레스와 대처방안에 대한 연구)

  • This study is intended to learn about the factors appearing in parenting stress and the copying strategies by targeting marriage immigrant women who are raising middle and high school student. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted on seven participants of Marriage Migrant Women who are living in Seoul and Gyeongi area. Generally to say, first of results showed that the personal factors, family factors, social factors and enculturative factors were found out as the factors of parenting stress of them. Secondly, problem-centered and emotion-focused coping strategies for the factors of stress were the main ways. Specifically, as the individual factors, the self-efficiency was coped with problem-focused ways and the parenting roles were coped with emotion-focused ways. As the family factors, child's activity and sociality impact their school adjustment and their mother's parenting stress and, various copying strategies were used depending on the different situation. For the social factors, looking for family supporting as the active problem-focused coping ways were used in husband's family and looking for emotional comfort as the emotion-focused coping ways were used in parents' home. In the case of enculturative factors, the emotion-focused coping strategies were used for the Public gaze and the prejudice around them that caused overwhelming sense of helplessness.

Effect of Virtual Reality Game on Old Patient's Depression, Relationship and Life Satisfaction (가상현실 게임이 노인 뇌졸중 환자의 우울, 대인관계, 삶의 만족도에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of virtual reality game on old stroke patient's depression, relationship and life satisfaction. The subjects of this study were 40 stroke patients of over 65 years old and each 20 patients were randomly assigned in two groups. The study was conducted for 12 weeks. Nintendo Wii Sports Resort program was applied to the virtual reality game for the experimental group. In order to investigate psychological social factor (depression, relationship) and life satisfaction of the objects, BDI, RCS, LSI-Z were checked three times. The results are as followings. First, the psychological social change (depression, relationship) after the training program showed that depression is significantly decreased (p<.001) along with the intervention period in both 2 groups. Second, change of life satisfaction after the training program showed that significant statistical improvement were found both in control group(p<.05), and experimental group(p<.001). Third, depression, relationship showed the significant statistically correlation with life satisfaction(p<.05). We can conclude from the above that virtual reality games which were played by 2 persons had the significant effect on old stroke patient's psychological social factor(depression, relationship) and life satisfaction.

The Effect of Nutrition Education on the Improvement of Psychosocial Factors Related to Vegetable and Fruit Intake of Elementary School Children in Pre-Action Stages (채소와 과일섭취 증진을 위한 영양교육이 행동전단계 초등학생의 사회심리적 요인의 변화에 미치는 효과)

  • This study investigates the change of level of psychosocial factors of decisional balance, processes of change, and self-efficacy after nutrition education on vegetable and fruit intake of children in pre-action stages. Forty-seven 5th grade elementary school children in Yeongi-Gun, Chungnam-Do were categorized into pre-action stages from a total of 71 children by four-stage questions, and then finally into two stages of precontemplation and contemplation & preparation. After 6 weeks nutrition education, recognition of both of pros and cons of vegetable intake were improved in the two groups of precontemplation and contemplation & preparation. In fruits intake, however, recognition of pros was not changed after nutrition education in either stage, but recognition of cons was improved only in the precontemplation stage. However, no difference in any psychosocial variables was found between precontemplation stage and contemplation & preparation stage. After the nutrition education, the score of consciousness raising of vegetable intake belonging to cognitive process of change increased in the subjects of the precontemplation stage, wheres the scores of dramatic relief, self-reevaluation, environment reevaluation and social liberation increased in the group of contemplation & preparation. In fruit intake, however, no change was found except in the environment reevaluation in the precontemplation group. The behavioral process of change of vegetable and fruit intake did not show any change in either group after nutrition education. Self-efficacy scores of vegetable intake of keeping the foods at hand, eating the recommended number of servings and making time to eat increased in the precontemplation group, while in the contemplation & preparation group, self efficacy scores of shopping for a variety of vegetables, instead of keeping the foods at hands, as well as the scores of the rest two items of eating the recommended number of servings and making time to eat increased after nutrition education. However, in case of fruits intake, no difference was shown in the precontemplation stage except an item of keeping the foods at hand. The results indicated that the stage of change was progressed in the pre-action stage after nutrition education and the scores of many psychosocial factors increased in both pre-action stages. It is suggested that the recognition of cons as well as the cognitive process of change and self-efficacy could be best used as indicators of the assessment of nutrition education program for vegetable intake.

Relationship between Elderly Suicide Rates and Socio-economic Factors in Korea: centering around the Trend of Changes in 1990-2010 (한국 노인자살률과 사회·경제적 요인의 관련성 -1990년~2010년 변화 추이를 중심으로)

  • This study analyzed the relationship between elderly suicide rates and socio-economic factors from the macroscopic perspectives. As certain theoretical background of elderly suicide, sociological and economic perspectives are applied. The economic factors of elderly suicide rates consisted of economic growth and unemployment rate, economic activity rate of the aged, and relative poverty rate (income inequality rate). The sociological factors included social welfare spending, divorce rate, growth rate of population aging, and elderly dependency ratio. According to research findings, first, the more economic activity of the aged is low, the more elderly suicide rate is high. Second, the more social welfare spending rate goes flat, the more elderly suicide rate is growing. Third, the more relative poverty rate (income inequality), increasing population aging rate, and elderly dependency ratio are high, elderly suicide rate goes high at the same time. Finally, this study proposed several socio-economic policy alternatives for preventing continuous growth of Korean elderly suicide rate.

Verifying a Method of Qualitatizing Qualitative Factors of BSC (BSC의 정성적요인 계량화 검증 방법)

  • For a more convenient deduction of the weighted values in AHP of BSC using a spread sheet program, this study derived each weighted values through single and group calculations and it also compared the two calculations to verify mutual identities. Pairwise comparison is generally used in measuring performance of corporations or government organizations, but, many researches have been done without reliability verification due to difficulty in the deduction of weighted value. This trend, like using a wrong measurement, result in defective result of BSC. Therefore, this study presents various methods of single and group case measurement using spread sheet so that it can be utilized in practice. Thus, I expect this study's result be availed in BSC consulting or research of public organizations that have difficulty in measuring qualitative factors.

A Study on Estimation of Input Criteria for ESG Performance Index : The Country Level of ESG Index Perspective (국가별 ESG 이행성과지표 투입기준 산정에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a reliable tool that can classify and measure detailed indicators related to the performance of ESG implementation in the country and verify their applicability. Based on World Bank's data as input data, 67 types of ESG-related detailed indicators measured in a total of 239 countries were tested to derive an optimal model that could group detailed indicators into three categories: environment, society, and governance. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that a total of 10 detailed indicators had a statistically significant relationship with the country's ESG performance. In addition, the detailed indicators showed a positive correlation with the primary latent variables E, S, and G, and showed a high overall index in the suitability of the model to secure the validity and reliability of variable input. As a result, this study confirmed that several detailed performance indicators constituting ESG can be classified as latent variables, and it can be said that clear criteria for the selection method and input validity of variables were presented.
