Influence of Interfaces on Novice Users' Performance in Social Virtual Worlds (사회적 가상세계에서 인터페이스가 초보사용자들의 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper explores how interface environments have an influence on novice users' performance in social virtual worlds (SVWs), which are emerging user-centric three-dimensional cyberspaces. Despite their early popularity, SVWs have experienced that numerous new users leave the cyberspaces soon before they become long-term users. One possible reason is that unfamiliar interfaces of SVWs can be a barrier to novice users' adaptation of the technology. To understand a role of interfaces in the users' assimilation of SVWs, we examine an impact of three interface factors (presence, affordance, and feedback) on performance which is regarded as a yardstick for users' adaptation of SVWs. Forty participants were recruited and went through one-hour experimental sessions with seven tasks in Second Life; they were also asked to answer a questionnaire. Findings indicate that while affordance and feedback are significant factors influencing novice users' performance, presence has no impact on their performance.

  • Recently, the number of People who want to study by online has been gradually increased. In addition, people's desire is increasing that represents their special knowledge and personality with new paradigm of UCC(User Created Contents). Most of the educational web-sites offer currently boring and unified educational contents without interesting objects. Therefore I want to solve these problems of existing online educational web-sites and I strongly propose the method of design to make the place educational and useful that everyone can enjoy and manifest the user's dispositions. On this study, it's possible to make pleasant environment and improve educational effects on cyber space by designing it in accordance with the individual tastes which have various design elements, beauties and facilities by the customized design method. As a result, this study proposes the model of online educational web-site having various interfaces and focusing on the customized design.

  • This study presents the two major problems and those improvements of Cadastral Surveying Fee System. The system has been attempted to apply for Individual Public Land Price since 2011. To tackle those problems, this study examines a variety of literatures such as specialty publications, academic thesis, and reports from government. This study applies questionnaire survey method. And the data were collected by the personnel in charge of receiving cadastral surveying application in Gwangju and Jellanamdo branch, LX Korea Cadastral Survey Corp. In order to apply Individual Public Land Price to Cadastral Surveying Fee System, this study suggests subdivision of land at price and application of sample lot and land price standard index table. A number of curriculums provided by training institute in LX Korea Cadastral Survey Corp., education materials and cyber education method are necessary to promote awareness of personnel in charge. Publicity activities are also required to fulfill governmental basis.

  • The present school is faced with the crisis of school collapse and classroom collapse under a bureaucratic and authoritative atmosphere. The method to respect individual opinions and to discuss with open mind is needed. The study is to establish the system of SDR and to make it possible to express the wholesome and various ideas of members by using it. SDR is related with the interruption DB to stop up unsound messages. The result of this study shows that SDR is very helpful to make a culture of discussion in a school in the respect of enlarged chances for teachers and students to participate, active and open participation, changing of attitude in achieving group goal and formation of desirable culture of discussion.

  • As people increasingly access the internet on mobile, the importance of internet ethics and Information Communication(ICE) Ethics has been gradually emphasized in a global society. Therefore it is needed that young students should learn cyber-ethics at school. However, currently there is almost no appropriate ICE-education program for primary school students in Korea. In this paper, we propose an ICE-education program based on digital storytelling. The proposed ICE-education program makes students to learn ICE naturally through the experiences obtained in the process of making their own digital storytelling about ICE. We applied the proposed ICE educational program to the 6th grade students of an elementary school located in Seoul. The result showed that the most participated students have enhanced their scores in participation, respect and temperance among four key elements of ICE.

  • This paper describes an experiment of concrete and specific group work learning system based on the traditional Jigsaw group work learning model. Jigsaw model has two groups of students such as random group and expert group so that a course can make progress on explaining and lecturing all members of class after each student can be a member of expert group of course topic. We design and implement Web-based training system to support collaboration and Interaction among students of a course based on Jigsaw model The Web- based learning system makes each group going up to the expert level of a course subject by supporting various study menu and provides equal opportunity of improving social abilities such as leadership, communication skill, trust, and trouble-settling by taking part in collaboration activities.

A Study on Face Component Extraction for Automatic Generation of Personal Avatar (개인아바타 자동 생성을 위한 얼굴 구성요소의 추출에 관한 연구)

  • In Recent times, Netizens have frequently use virtual character 'Avatar' schemes in order to present their own identity, there is a strong need for avatars to resemble the user. This paper proposes an extraction technique for facial region and features that are used in generating the avatar automatically. For extraction of facial feature component, the method uses ACM and edge information. Also, in the extraction process of facial region, the proposed method reduces the effect of lights and poor image quality on low resolution pictures. this is achieved by using the variation of facial area size which is employed for external energy of ACM. Our experiments show that the success rate of extracting facial regions is $92{\%}$ and accuracy rate of extracting facial feature components is $83.4{\%}$, our results provide good evidence that the suggested method can extract the facial regions and features accurately, moreover this technique can be used in the process of handling features according to the pattern parts of automatic avatar generation system in the near future.

  • Spam email is an electronic mail sent to a large number of netizen who do not want it. Criminals have been to take an advantage of this tool easily through harmful activities such as phishing. Recently the spam mail containing commercial information is broadly accepted as an illegal commitment to endangering the network. According some report, it could cause real damages. For the better policy on controlling spam mail we need new Efficient Countermeasure. Several laws have been enacted in Korea for controlling spam mail. The most important acts is the Using and Protecting Communication Act. Main targets of this law is virus spreading, computer hacking, cyber pornography, intellectual property breaching, private or public information abusing and cyber terrorism. But the Using and Protecting Communication Act is insufficient to control spam mail. For the better policy on controlling spam mail we need new Efficient Countermeasure. Therefore, this research wishes to present way to control for efficient spam mail through enactment of conversion, induction of clash action system degree, special law of national regulation form for spam mail.

  • A Home Location Register(HLR) database system manages each subscriber's location information, which continuously changes in a cellular network. For this purpose, the HLR database system provides table management, index management, and backup management facilities. In this thesis, I propose using a two-level index method for the mobile directory number(MDN) as a suitable method and a chained bucket hashing method for the electronic serial number(ESN). Both the MDN and the ESN are used as keys in the HLR database system. I also propose an efficient backup method that takes into account the characteristics of HLR database transactions. The retrieval speed and the memory usage of the two-level index method are better than those of the T-tree index method. The insertion and deletion overhead of the chained bucket hashing method is less than that of the modified linear hashing method. In the proposed backup method, I use two kinds of dirty flags in order to solvethe performance degradation problem caused by frequent registration-location operations. I also propose using additional attributes in the HLR database scheme for location information secrecy as a suitable security method.

  • Internet becomes absolutely necessary tools due to rapid progress of information technology. Educational correspondence abount an age of information demand is a education focused on a learner and remote education based on information technology. WBI(Web Based Instruction) is a formation that remotly educate a learner using web, possible mutual reaction between instructor and learner, submint various studying material, has a good point to overcome spatial restriction. Internal and external standardization working is accelerated and recently XML security studies are activated using XML which is next generation web standard document format. And XML electronic signature raise interworking between digital signature systems used by various field of using XML document. Using these merit and complementing defect are main contents that users have to pay about Certification service to get CA certificate from 2004 june. This paper propose multiplex Certification remote education agent system using XML digital signature to satisfy security requirement.
