Influencing Factors on Users' Resistance to the Mobile Easy Payment Services : Focusing on the Case of KakaoPay Users (모바일 간편결제 서비스에 대한 사용자 수용저항 요인 : 카카오페이 사용자를 중심으로)

  • Since the global financial crisis of 2008, the continuous development and innovation in technology-related fields such as information and communications technology (ICT) are likely to swim against the recession. In this paradoxical situation, the necessity of financial innovation through ICT is on the rise. For this reason, the appearance of Fintech is more meaningful as a new converged industry with the potential to lead financial innovation. The term of Fintech is derived from combining 'Finance' and 'Technology.' In South Korea, one of the most popular types of Fintech is mobile payment. KakaoPay, which is the first mobile easy payment service in Korea, is a much more simplified type of mobile payment service than ones used in the past, and is provided by the most popular mobile messenger service in Korea, KakaoTalk. However, KakaoPay has few active users in spite of its many advantages, which include convenience, simplicity, and a powerful platform. Thus, the main purpose of this paper is to investigate influencing factors of user resistance on KakaoPay. In order to investigate specific factors, a research model is developed based on the unified understanding of user resistance put forth by Laumer and Eckhardt (2012). After gathering online survey data from KakaoTalk users, an empirical analysis is conducted to verify this research model. The results of this study give insights regarding user resistance factors in the Fintech sector, and by so doing, it is expected that the important factors of user resistance could help the diffusion of new services when new mobile payment services appear in the near future.

  • Recently, by growing of Korean comics/animation markets and number of consumers, the more people have been reproducing culture contents into derived contents. However, user experience of active users who enjoy these cultures have not been accepted well like other local culture festivals in South Korea, though there are high potentials of vitalization comics/animation festivals using the active users. In this study, the experiences of participants of BICOF (Bucheon International Comics Festival) from 2013 to 2014 researched using the method of ethnography, especially using (group) interviews and participant observations. The result from the research indicates that cosplayers have limited range of participation inside of festival. And they have negative experiences during their participation into festivals. Therefore, this study suggests necessity of methodology of continuous reflecting of the user experiences of active users into festival, for the solution of the successful festival, who was objectified in the festival.

A Study of Receptive Factors of Smartphone Service from the User's Perspective (스마트폰 서비스의 수용적 요인에 관한 연구 : 사용자 관점에서)

  • This study first aims to investigate from the users' perspective what service is the most efficient to users and what service is relatively the most effective in contrast to investment among a variety of services provided by smartphone manufacturers, telecommunication companies, and related corporations. In addition, this research suggests implicatively important elements for making the future model of smartphone services. For this end, this study finds out the factors which generate users' positive or negative attitudes towards smartphone use through a questionnaire of those who are using smartphones at present. In particular, by applying Theory of Planned Behavior, this study analyzes the influence exerted by the user's belief towards the kinds of services by setting up Attitudinal Belief, Subjective Norms, and Control Belief which have an influence on attitude from the perspective of smartphone providing detailed services. The results of this study will eventually help the smartphone manufacturers, telecommunication companies, and related corporations to establish smartphone marketing strategy as well as to select the smartphone services which will have popular appeal to their users.

Development and Validation of Ethical Awareness Scale for AI Technology (인공지능기술 윤리성 인식 척도개발 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a scale to measure the ethical awareness of users who accept artificial intelligence technology or service. To this end, the constructs and properties of AI ethics were identified through literature analysis on AI ethics. Reliability and validity were assessed through a preliminary survey(N=273), after conducting an open-type survey to men and women(N=133) in 10s to 70s nationwide, extracting the first questions, and reviewing them by experts. The results of an online survey conducted on men and women(N=500) were refined by confirmatory factor analysis. Finally, an AI technology ethics scale was developed. The AI technology ethics awareness scale was developed with 16 questions in total of 4 factors (transparency, safety, fairness, accountability) so that general awareness of ethics related to AI technology can be measured by detailed factors. In addition, through follow-up research, it will be possible to reveal the relationship with measurement variables in various fields by using the ethical awareness scale of artificial intelligence technology.

  • The purpose of this study is to search information attributes suitable for SNS and to identify the influence of individuals or groups who contribute to the creation and diffusion of information in the SNS. The researchers extracted the accuracy, two-sided information, novelty, diversity, and experiential factors that influence the acceptance and diffusion of information in the SNS, and identified the relationships among the variables, the usefulness of information and the degree of information diffusion intention. And researchers studied market maven who play the key role in creating and diffusing SNS information. A total of 600 questionnaires were collected and 549 questionnaires were used to test the research hypothesis. The results of the study are as follows. Consumers considered information, which had accuracy, two-sided, and experiential attributes, as useful. But novelty or diversity information were regarded as unuseful because of motive to avoid ambiguity. In the Market Maven Group who have the ability to acquire and edit SNS information, however, there were weak or negative causality between experience and accuracy and information usability factors. but positive causality between novelty and diversity factors of information and usability.

A Study on the Impact of the App-Book Purchasing Behavior of Smart phone Users in Korea (국내 스마트폰 사용자들의 앱북 구매행위에 미치는 영향요인 연구)

  • In order to research the factors influencing on the intentions for smart phone users to purchase "App-Book" in Korea, the study examines the levels of influences using on an additional variable, "cost", as well as the four key variables(performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions) proposed by Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology(UTAUT; Venkatesh et al., 2003) validation. The result of the research confirms that the hypotheses of UTAUT model variable are generally supported by the information technology and many related previous researches. There is one exception, however, that facilitating conditions do not influence on the App-Book purchasing behavior by smart phone. It is revealed that the "age" and "experience" of the independent variables, as the proposed control variables, are most visible effect of control on the purchase intention and purchase behavior. This study has an academic significance of presenting a new integrated model to perform the research of the similar next App-Book services and purchase behavior related to the acceptance of new media. It also clarifies to the related companies that the usefulness of App-Book, the easiness of use, the cost and the social influence of purchasing App-Book by Outsider's intent. These aspects have practical implications as being presented.

  • Recently, the area of ubiquitous has gained a great attention both in academics and in business organizations as we are entering an ubiquitous society where people can interact at "anytime" and "anywhere". To preoccupy the leading status for the next generation of IT technology, many countries such as Korea, Japan, and US are concerned the ubiquitous. In this tendency, companies want to identify what factors make people use ubiquitous in order to develop the effective ubiquitous service and to supply the higher quality service. However, prior researches on ubiquitous are focused on technical area such as higher data delivery, efficient compression of images, so they do not have given companies beneficial materials for making fascinating ubiquitous services. To offer the service materials for development, from the viewpoint of the customer, important factors to use ubiquitous services are investigated in this study. Moreover, the study was progressed up to the new area of investigation how much these factors influenced ubiquitous service actual usage. To achieve these goals, Ubiquitous service adopting reflected in ubiquitous service characteristics was suggested in this study. The results of this study are as follows. First, contextual offer, ubiquity, invisibility are positively related to perceived value. Second, perceived value is positively related to usage intention but perceived risk is negatively related to usage intention. Third, usage intention is positively related to usage frequency. Based on these results, managerial implications for ubiquitous service vitalization are discussed. Lastly, the limitation of this research and further research issues are suggested.

  • With the growing interest being reflected in the FinTech industry, much attention has been paid to mobile easy payment services as well. In the era of mobile commerce, the core advantage of using mobile easy payment services(simplifying complex payment procedures and thus facilitating user convenience and reducing the chance of giving up payment) are being more emphasized. Mobile easy payment service market not only includes mobile easy payment service providers but also users, non-users, affiliates, banks, and credit card companies as main stakeholders. Exploring those stakeholders is thus important to thoroughly understand such market. However, extant literature on mobile easy payment services mostly focuses on examining adoption intention of users or non-users. This study, an exploratory research based on interviews, thus aims to extract driving as well as inhibiting factors of mobile easy payment service use from six different perspectives (i.e., social platform, bank, credit card company, affiliate, user, and non-user) and analyze a sequence of cause and effect for each factor. For this, the causal loop diagram was developed to deduce key issues and propose an alternative. Theoretical and practical implications of this study will also be discussed.

Extended TAM Analysis of a Residential DR Pilot Program (확장된 기술수용모델을 이용한 가정용 에너지 수요반응 프로그램 실증분석)

  • While electricity demand is generally increasing, stably controlling supply is becoming a serious challenge because renewable energies are becoming popular and often their productions are dependent on the weather. The 'demand response' programs can be used to complement the problems of renewable energies, and therefore their role is becoming increasingly important. This study provides an analysis of a demand response pilot that was conducted in Korea. The study first focused on questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews, and the data was used to perform a Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) analysis. The goal of the pilot was to have the residential users reduce their power consumptions when an energy reduction mission is issued during peak load hours. The experimental subjects consisted of two groups with different characteristics. Subjects in group A obtained smart meters as an optional function of IoT platform service provided by a mobile service company, and received a charge deduction as their compensation. Subjects in group B either voluntarily purchased smart meters as individuals or received them by participating in an energy self-sufficient village program that was run by a local government, and were entitled to a donation as their compensation. With the analysis, group A was found to fit the extended technology acceptance model that includes perceived playfulness in addition to perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. On the contrary, group B failed to fit the model well, but perceived usefulness was found to be relatively more important compared to group A. The results indicate that the residential energy groups' behavior changes are dependent on each group's characteristics, and group-specific DR design should be considered to improve the effectiveness of DR.

A Study on the Perceived Value and Intention of Use of Mobile Shopping Apps Using Value-Based Adoption Model (VAM) (가치기반수용모델(VAM)을 활용한 모바일 쇼핑 앱의 지각된 가치와 사용의도에 관한 연구)

  • As the spread of smartphones has become more common and the utilization rate has increased, the mobile shopping market is also growing and expectations for related industries are also increasing. Mobile shopping apps are converging with various industries such as fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, and competition among companies to increase the number of users is intensifying with the activation of non-face-to-face. Accordingly, in this study, a study on the perceived value and intention to use mobile shopping apps was conducted based on a VAM. In order to test the hypothesis of this study, a questionnaire was conducted on 266 people who had used a mobile shopping app and it was used for analysis. Looking at the results, it was confirmed that both usefulness and enjoyment among the perceived benefit of mobile shopping apps have a positive (+) effect on the perceived value. However, it was found that the technicality and perceived risk among the perceived sacrifices of mobile shopping apps did not significantly affect the perceived value. Finally, it was confirmed that the perceived value of the mobile shopping app had a positive (+) effect on the intention to use. Through this study, we would like to examine the factors that can affect perceived value and usage intention in the mobile shopping app industry, which is increasingly competitive among companies along with the rapid growth of mobile technology and market, and suggest practical implications for related companies and officials to establish efficient strategies to further increase mobile shopping app users.
