This study is an attempt to explore the professional image of librarianship through librarians' subjectivity using Q-methodology based on intraindividual difference in significance. The study identified four types of the professional image of librarianship and discussed their relationship; the ambivalent, the prideful, the advanced, and the critical. Each types are unique, not inter-exclusive characteristics reflected the context of the present. Also, all types have a positive image toward the librarianship.

The purpose of this study is to suggest how to activate the school library by examining how the users' perceive teacher librarians. For this purpose, questionnaires and in-depth interviews were conducted for students in 10 middle and high schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi. Analyses lead to these findings: the image types of teacher librarians were classified as professional image, active image, and simple-work image. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the effect of teacher librarians images on school library user satisfaction. In order to enhance the teacher librarians images and school library user satisfaction, it is necessary to strive to cultivate the active attitude and professionalism of teacher librarians. Also, as the frequency of use is lower, the teacher librarians' images are viewed as simple work. Therefore, it is required to consider various reading events and reading education to raise the frequency of use. This study shows that the teacher librarians' images have a positive effect on school library users' satisfaction and suggests improvement plan for school library activation.

Using structured interviews a study was undertaken with 25 high school students in Seoul and Kyonggi Province to elicit their perceptions of teacher-Ibrarian as a profession. The study also sought to gauge the extent of the student's intentions on pursuing a career in librarianship. Responses were content analysed to determine the extent of knowledge and understanding held. intentions on choosing librarianship as a career. Findings suggest the image of teacher-librarian to be poor and that librarianship as a career is far from desirable amongst the teenagers of Seoul and Kyonggi Province.

The purpose of this study is to examine the images of libraries and librarians in Korean children's literature. For this purpose, fourteen children's fictions that the main background is library are analyzed. Library's role appeared in the children's fictions is focused on reading books. In the children's fictions, librarians are usually women and described as friendly and active people. And their role is shown as strongly committed to children's reading activities. Library services and activities for information literacy education and cultural development of children is hardly reflected in the fictions. It implicates that the libraries and librarians in children's literature is very reflective of those in the real world.

The major role of school librarians in Korea has been providing reading guidance and library user education with paper resources. However, digital users have become more ubiquitous and demand more information with the images and digital materials. Therefore, school libraries need to collect more images and digital materials. At the same time, school librarians have to equip themselves with the ability to cope with this transformation. The qualified school librarians not only should have a teaching certificate but also know about techniques to transform various library materials into digital formats. Teachers and students could use these materials for their Web site homepages and Powerpoint presentations.

The purpose of this study is to measure self images of public librarians who should increasingly take charge of services for children and young people through the semantic differential method and analyze its' general characteristics. According to the results of analysis public librarians have been satisfied with their works and believed that they are kind, fair and gentle. One the other hand, they have had negative self images such as no influence, neglect, poor and stuffiness. Therefore, the result show that public librarians consider their ability, quality and activity as positive images, but they have felt lack of the social consensus and affirmative evaluation of their role. So, we can see building a good physical environment and running great programs to create access of children and young people to the public libraries, demonstrating leadership among senior librarians are so important in order to beat the stereotype and improve their positive self images of their evaluation and role. It is also necessary to promote the new value and role of public libraries and librarianship and to enable retraining for cultivating their qualities as a teacher.

This study aimed to delve into the personal experiences of academic librarians as they perform their duties, seeking a holistic understanding of their professional experiences and the subjective experiences underlying them. To this end, the study conducted in-depth interviews with librarians, who were selected as research participants from private four-year universities, and analyzed the collected data using Giorgi's phenomenological analysis method. The findings reveal that the experiences of academic librarians can be summarized as "ambivalent perceptions of the librarian profession," "discrepancies between expectations and reality," "discriminatory personnel practices within university organizations," "growth and limitations derived from professional experiences," and "adaptation and anxiety in response to rapid environmental changes." A closer examination indicated that academic librarians continuously experience and resolve dilemmas within complex contexts. The findings of this study are expected to deepen the understanding of the profession of academic librarians and contribute to the development of practical strategies for workforce management and the improvement of working conditions.

The purpose of this study was to explore the role orientation that librarians are expected to carry during their career-life. More specifically, this study examined the pattern of librarians subjectivism related to attitude, belief, and confidence. Q questions were made of 36 items, including personal value system and role attitude. P sample included 23 librarians. Data were collected for 8 days (from April 15, 2005 to April 22, 2005). Analyses showed the following results. First, librarians role orientations were classified into 3 types: user-centered orientation, organization-centered orientation, and expertise-centered orientation. (1) The first type librarians were interested in having good relationships with users, while emphasizing the importance of providing good services to the users. (2) The second type of librarians were concerned with social function of the library, while placing highlight on their roles as organizational members. Among them, achievement evaluation was regarded as an important indicator of personal success. They were interested in having stable organizational culture, as well as economic growth of libraries. This orientation was dominant among married members. (3) The third type of librarians focused on librarians role implementation and professional achievement. They showed interest not only in the improvement of librarians creativity and the growth of expertises, but also the expansion of retraining opportunities. This orientation was conspicuous among female librarians. Second, several commonalities and differences were consistently found among librarians. The first type was interested in user-centered orientation(user contact, need satisfaction, self dignity, etc.). The second type was interested in organization-centered orientation(creativity, expertise growth, retraining opportunity, professional achievement. self-respect, etc.).

본 연구는 일반 시민이 공공도서관에 가지는 역할 이미지의 유형과, 그러한 역할 이미지들이 어떠한 경로를 통해 형성되는지 파악하고자 하였다. 연구는 다양한 공공도서관 이용정도를 보이는 서울특별시 시민 6명을 대상으로 한 개별심층면담을 통해 이루어졌다. 면담 내용을 분석한 결과, 다양한 경험 중 직접 도서관을 이용해 본 경험이 공공도서관에 대한 인식을 형성하는 가장 큰 경로로 나타났다. 특히 응답자들의 사서에 대한 이미지와 도서관에 느끼는 이미지가 매우 유사하였다. 간접적인 경험 중에서는 주변인의 공공도서관 경험이 가장 큰 영향을 미쳤으며, 홍보물, 언론, 웹사이트 등은 큰 영향을 미치지 못한 것으로 판단된다.
