  • The general formulation of free vibration and stability analysis of unsymmetric thin-walled space frames and beam-columns is presented. The kinetic and total potential energy is derived by applying the extended virtual work principle, introducing displacement parameters defined at the arbitrarily chosen axis and including second order terms of finite semitangential rotations. In formulating the finite element procedure, cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape functions of the two node space frame element. Mass, elastic stiffness, and geometric stiffness matrices for the unsymmetric thin-walled section are evaluated. In order to illustrate the accuracy and practical usefulness of this formulation, finite element solutions for the free vibration and stability problems of thin-walled beam-columns and space frames are presented and compared with available solutions.

E. formulation for the geometric and plastic non-linear analysis of steel jacket structures subjected to wave and earthquake loadings was presented and the main processor was developed. In this paper, the pre/post processor are developed in order to analyze the output results effectively as well as to prepare the input data efficiently. Furthermore, the numerical examples are presented and discussed for linear and non-linear analysis of steel jackets under environmental loadings.

  • The structural stability of a simple-typed cultivation facility with a width of 5.6 m for growing Pleurotus ostreatus was analyzed by modeling the facility as three-dimensional steel frames. The computation was done by using the finite element analysis program, ANSYS and the criterion of determining structural stability was based on the allowable stress design (ASD). The computational results showed that the structure with a straight-typed bed column was more stable than those with other types of bed columns against snow depth but there was little difference against wind velocity. As results, the interval of rafter had a more influence on safety wind velocity than that of bed column, while the interval of bed column was more important to safety snow depth. Finally the bed column against buckling was stable in all cases considered in this paper.

  • In this paper the kinematics of damage for finite elastoplastic deformations is introduced using the fourth-order damage effect tensor through the concept of the effective stress within the framework of continuum damage mechanics. Unlike the approach of strain equivalence or energy equivalence, which is applicable only to small strains, the proposed kinematic description provides a relation between the effective strain and the damage elastoplastic strain in finite deformation. This is accomplished by directly considering the kinematics of the deformation field both real configuration. The proposed approach shows that it is equivalent to the hypothesis of energy equivalence at finite strains. The damage effect tensor in this work is explicitly characterized in terms of a kinematic measure of damage in the elastoplastic domain through a second-order damage tensor.

  • The finite element menthod for the investigation of the static and dynamic stability of the plane framed structures subjected to non-conservative forces is presented. By using the Hermitian polynomial as the shape function, the geometric stiffness matrix, the load correction stiffness matrix for non-conservative forces, and the matrix equation of internal and external damping are derived. Then, a matrix equation of the motion for the non-conservative system is formulated and the critical divergence and flutter loads are determined from this equation.

  • Recently, the corrosion and aging of bridge structures are of great concern impractical The uncertainties of the corroded reinforced bars in concrete influence not only the safety of the bridge structures, but also the flexural strength of reinforced concrete members. This paper considers these uncertainties by providing a reliability-based framework and show that the identification of the optimum maintenance scenario is a straightforward process. This is achieved by using a computer pro망am for Life Cycle Cost Analysis of Deteriorating Structures (LCCADS). This program can consider the effects of various types of actions on the reliability index profile of a deteriorating structures.

  • In order to completely automatize the moving load analysis for the three-dimensional frame model of the girder bridge, the efficient software technique is presented, which makes use of the signal among processes. If this software technique is used in automation, the separate algorithm is not needed for the transverse loading analysis, and the complete automatic moving load analysis algorithm can be easily developed. The program, which has the complete automatic moving load analysis function, has been developed with using this software technique, and has been verified by comparing the results with the one in the famous design book.

  • This paper presents an explanatory study of combining the finite element and boundary element methods to achieve an efficient and accurate analysis of frame structure containing shear wall. This model analyzes the frame by finite element method and the shear wall by boundary element method. The purpose of this study is the specific case that boundary element is surrounded by finite element. If material properties of shear wall are relatively the very smaller than it of frame structure, the displacement shape of each node is calculated exactly. And if the solution of displacement is the larger, the displacement shape is approximated more accurately.

  • A fibered element for the material and geometric nonlinear analysis of three-dimensional reinforced and prestressed concrete frame is presented. The fibered frame element is idealized as an assemblage of concrete and reinforcing steel fibers in order to account for varied material properties within the cross section of the frame element through elastic, cracking and ultimated stages of materials. Prestressing tendon is modeled as an assemblage of multilinear prestressing steel segments each of which spans a frame element. The contribution of each prestressing steel is added directly to the fibered frame element. Numerical results from the ultimate analysis of three-dimensional PSC box girder are compared with those obtained from other investigator. The validity and the capability of the present nonlinear analysis model is well demonstrated.

  • When one considers the property of the axisymmetry, an analysis of an axisymmetric shell subjected to unaxisymmetric loading can be employed to save time and computer memory space. If one considers the Fourier series of the circumference direction of loads and displacements, an axisymmetric tank subjected to a nonaxisymmetric load can be treated as a frame element. Using the Fourier series, the authors derived the stiffness matrix of the cylindrical shell subjected to unaxisymmetric loading by the usual finite element method, and converted the stiffness matrix of a frame element into a transfer matrix by rearranging the stiffness matrix to apply the transfer matrix method. Here the most significant purpose of this paper is to achieve the fewest number of simultaneous equations for analysing an axisymmetric shell subjected to a nonaxisymmetric load. The results of the proposed method of the analysis of the cylindrical shell subjected to a wind load and a water load show no differences when compared to the other methods.
