Optimization of the Operating Stiffness of a Two-Axis Parallel Robot (2축 병렬로봇의 작동강성 최적설계)

  • In this paper, the operating stiffness of a parallel robot used to handle heavy packages is optimized. Because the studied model, called a "pick and place robot," is applied for packaging logistics, it is important for the robot to be lightweight so that it may respond rapidly and have high stiffness to allow sufficient operating precision. However, these two requirements of low weight and high stiffness are mutually exclusive. Thus, the dynamic characteristics of the robot are analyzed through multibody dynamics analysis, and topology optimization is conducted to achieve this exclusive performance. Lastly, the reliability of the topology optimization is verified by applying the optimized design to the parallel robot.

Inverse Hysteresis Modeling for Piezoelectric Stack Actuators with Inverse Generalized Prandtl-Ishlinskii Model (Inverse Generalized Prandtl-Ishlinskii Model를 이용한 압전 스택 액추에이터의 역 히스테리시스 모델링)

  • Piezoelectric actuators have been widely used in various applications because they have many advantages such as fast response time, repeatable nanometer motion, and high resolution. However Piezoelectric actuators have the strong hysteresis effect. The hysteresis effect can degrade the performance of the system using piezoelectric actuators. In past study, the parameters of the inverse hysteresis model are computed from the identified parameters using the Generalized Prandtl-Ishlinskii(GPI) model to cancel the hysteresis effect, however according to the identified parameters there exist the cases that can't form the inverse hysteresis loop. Thus in this paper the inverse hysteresis modeling mothod is proposed using the Inverse Generalized Prandtl-Ishlinskii(IGPI) model to handle that problem. The modeling results are verified by experimental results using various input signals.

Storage System of Video Database of Considering User Classes (사용자등급을 고려한 비디오 데이터베이스의 저장시스템)

  • Video database has the function that stores videos and retrieves the video informations for the service request of users. Therefore, the purpose of the video database is to provide not only an environment both convenient and efficient for retrieving and storing video, but also to serve the requested video informations with rapid startup latency for more users. But, some users of video database as VOD application might tolerate slow startup latency because they would watch video during one hour or two hours. In this paper, we propose the novel policy of the storage system of video database, which serves efficiently the users by considering the classes of the users in video database. The policy admits the random movements of disk heads for urgent user classes but maintains the sequential or restricted movements of disk heads for less-urgent user classes like VOD application in storage system of video database. So, it can not provide only rapid startup latencies for urgent requests but also it can process more service requests in all.

Sol-gel 방식을 통한 Al2O3 게이트 절연체를 갖는 그래핀 Field Effect Transistor 센서에 관한 연구

  • 최근, 높은 캐리어 이동도와 유연성, 투명성의 우수한 전기적 기계적 특성을 갖는 그래핀에 관한 연구가 활발해지고 있으며 이를 기반으로 한 그래핀 field effect transistor (FET) 센서 응용 또한 관심이 커지고 있다. 작은 소자 크기, 견고한 구조, 빠른 응답속도와 CMOS 공정과의 호환성이 좋은 FET 기반의 센서의 감지 특성은 주로 전해질과 직접 접촉하는 게이트 절연체의 고유 특성에 의해 결정된다. 이러한 게이트 절연체는 일반적으로 스퍼터링, atomic layer deposition (ALD), plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) 등의 진공 방법에 의해 형성되며, 이 공정 기술은 고가의 장비, 긴 공정 시간과 높은 제조비용이 요구된다. 더욱이, 위의 방식들은 소자 제작 동안에 플라즈마 발생 또는 열처리를 필요로 하게 되며 이는 그래핀 기반의 소자의 제작에 있어 큰 손상을 발생시키게 된다. 이러한 이유로 인해, 그래핀 FET 센서의 게이트 절연체의 형성에 있어 진공 증착 기술은 적절하지 않다. 본 연구에서는, 진공 증착 기술의 문제점을 극복하기 위해 sol-gel 방식을 통한 Al2O3 게이트 절연체를 갖는 그래핀 FET 센서를 제작하였다. Sol-gel 방식은 적은 비용, 공정의 단순화, 높은 처리량 뿐 아니라 소자의 대면적화 제작에 유리하다는 장점을 가지며, 또한 게이트 절연체를 증착함에 있어서 플라즈마가 발생하지 않기 때문에 그래핀 FET 제작에 쉽게 적용될 수 있다. 특히, 게이트 절연체 중 Al2O3은 우수한 화학적 안정성과 감지 특성으로 인해 본 실험에 사용하였다. 결론적으로, sol-gel 방식을 통한 Al2O3 게이트 절연체를 갖는 그래핀 FET 센서는 우수한 전기적 특성과 감지 특성 측면에서 매우 전망적이다.

Analysis of Control Algorithm for Instantaneous Voltage Sag Corrector (순시적인 전압 sag 보상기에 대한 제어 알고리즘의 해석)

  • This paper represents the control algorithm of the instantaneous voltage sag corrector for the power quality enhancement in distribution line. Especially, a novel detection technique of the symmetrical components is proposed for the analysis of the three-phase unbalanced and asymmetrical problems caused by the single line ground fault which is he most frequent event. This proposed method is based on the simple calculation and the control references of the symmetrical components for voltage compensation can be described as dc value without any other phase detection procedure. And also, for the generation of the reference voltages, the UF and MF defined by IEC is considered. Using this proposed control algorithm, the compensator has the fast dynamic characteristics and the THD of the compensated voltage waveform is very low. Finally, the validity of the proposed algorithm is proved by the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper presents an implementation of high-dynamic performance of position sensorless motion control system of Reluctance Synchronous Motor(RSM) drives for an industrial servo system with direct torque control(DTC). The problems of high-dynamic performance and maximum efficiency RSM drives controlled by DTC are saturation of stator linkage flux and nonlinear inductance characteristics with various load currents. The accurate estimation of the stator flux and torque are obtained using stator flux observer of which a saturated inductance $L_d$ and $L_q$ can be compensated by adapting from measurable the modulus of the stator current and rotor position. To obtain fast torque response and maximum torque/current with varying load current, the reference command flux is ensured by imposing $I_{ds} = I_{qs}$. This control strategy is proposed to achieve fast response and optimal efficiency for RSM drive. In order to prove rightness of the suggested control algorithm, the actual experiment carried out at $\pm$20 and $\pm$1500 rpm. The developed digitally high-performance motion control system shown good response characteristic of control results and high performance features using 1.0kW RSM which has 2.57 Ld/Lq salient ratio.

Two Version Latch Technique for Metadata Management of Documents in Digital Library (전자 도서관에서 문서의 메타데이타 관리를 위한 2 버전 래치 기법)

  • Recently, a major issue in the research of metadata is the standardization of metadata format. The new extension capability of metadata in the standardization requires some changes - storing and managing dynamic data consistently. In this paper, we define the characteristics of new metadata and propose a concurrency control called Two Version Latch (2VL). 2VL uses a latch and maintains two versions. Maintaining two versions using latch minimizes conflicts between read operation and write operation. The removal of unnecessary lock holding minimizes refresh latency. Therefore, this algorithm presents fast response time and recent data retrieval in read operation execution. As a result of the performance evaluation, the 2VL algorithm is shown to be better than other algorithms in metadata management system.

  • In this paper, the theoretical analysis for a solenoid with a finite length was verified by the finite element simulation. The solenoids are widely being used in the field of mechanical, industrial, medical industry due to their simple structure and fast responses. Solenoid actuators use an electromagnetic force. A magnetic field is formed around the solenoid coil when a current is applied. The magnetic force generated by the magnetic field enables an inside plunger to move linearly. The axial and radial magnetic fields (magnetic flux density, B) at a certain point were calculated from the Biot-Savart's law and compared with the simulation analysis from the ANSYS-Magnetostatic S/W. Comparison result, an error exists in the error range, and could therefore verify the accuracy.

  • LEDs are using widely in a field of illumination, LCD LED backlight, mobile signals because they have several merits, such as low power consumption, long lifetime, high brightness, fast response, environment friendly. To achieve high performance LEDs, one needs to enhance output power, reduce operation voltage, and improve device reliability. In this paper, we have proposed that the optimum design and specialized process could improve the performance of LED chip. It was showed an output power of 7cd and input supplied voltage of 3.2V by the insertion technique of current blocking layer. In this paper, GaN-based LED chip which is built on the sapphire epi-wafer by selective MOCVD were designed and developed. After that, their performances were measured. It showed the output power of 7cd more than conventional GaN-based chip. It will be used the lighting source of a medical equipment and LCD LED TV with GaN-based LED chip.

Hybrid Main Memory based Buffer Cache Scheme by Using Characteristics of Mobile Applications (모바일 애플리케이션의 특성을 이용한 하이브리드 메모리 기반 버퍼 캐시 정책)

  • Mobile devices employ buffer cache mechanisms, just as in computer systems such as desktops or servers, to mitigate the performance gap between main memory and secondary storage. However, DRAM has a problem in that it accelerates battery consumption by performing refresh operations periodically to maintain the stored data. In this paper, we propose a novel buffer cache scheme to increase the battery lifecycle in mobile devices based on a hybrid main memory architecture consisting of DRAM and non-volatile PCM. We also suggest a new buffer cache policy that allocates buffers based on process states to optimize the performance and endurance of PCM. In particular, our algorithm allocates each page to the appropriate position corresponding to the state of the application that owns the page, and tries to ensure a rapid response of foreground applications even with a small amount of DRAM memory. The experimental results indicate that the proposed scheme reduces the elapsed time of foreground applications by 58% on average and power consumption by 23% on average without negatively impacting the performance of background applications.
