  • We present nondestructive characterization for remanent life of advanced ferritic steels, next-gen energy facility materials by reversible permeability. The reversible permeability is based on the theory that the value of reversible permeability is the same differential of the hysteresis loop. The measurement principle is based on the foundation of harmonics voltage induced in a sensing coil using a lock-in amplifier tuned to the frequency of the exciting one. The peak interval of reversible permeability(PIRP), Vickers hardness, and tensile strength(TS) of the aged samples decreased with aging time. We could estimate the remanent life of advanced ferritic steel by using the relationship between the peak interval of reversible permeability and Larson-Miller parameter(LMP), non-destructively.

  • A nondestructive ultrasonic technique is presented for estimating the reinforcement volume fractions of particulate composites. The proposed technique employs a theoretical model which accounts for composite microstructures, together with a measurement of ultrasonic velocity to determine the reinforcement volume fractions. The approach is used for a wide range of SiC particulate reinforced Al matrix ($SiC_p/Al$) composites. The method is considered to be reliable in determining the reinforcement volume fractions. The technique could be adopted in a production unit for the quality assessment of the metal matrix particulate composite extrusions.

  • This paper proposes the use of decision tree classification for the measuring pattern recognition from industrial Computed Radiography(CR) images used in nondestructive evaluation(NDE) of steel-tubes. It appears that NDE problems are naturally desired to have machine learning techniques identify patterns and their classification. The attributes of decision tree are taken from NDE test procedure. Geometric features, such as radiative angle, gradient and distance, are estimated from the analysis of input image data. These factors are used to make it easy and accurate to classify an input object to one of the pre-specified classes on decision tree. This algerian is to simplify the characterization of NDE results and to facilitate the determination of features. The experimental results verify the usefulness of proposed algorithm.

  • Acoustic emission (AE) is one of the most powerful techniques for detecting damages and identify damage location during operations. However, in case of the source location technique, there is some limitation in conventional AE technology, because it strongly depends on wave speed in the corresponding structures having heterogeneous composite materials. A compressed natural gas(CNG) pressure vessel is usually made of carbon fiber composite outside of vessel for the purpose of strengthening. In this type of composite material, locating impact damage sources exactly using conventional time arrival method is difficult. To overcome this limitation, this study applied the previously developed Contour D/B map technique to four types of CNG storage tanks to identify the source location of damages caused by external shock. The results of the identification of the source location for different types were compared.

  • It is necessary to review the non-destructive indexes in order to estimate the bending strength performance of the domestic larch lumber. In this study, MOEs (modulus of elastic) the larch lumber (cross-section $89{\times}120mm$) were evaluated through non-destructive methods such as the ultra-sonic method, longitudinal vibration method, and non-destructive bending method. The non-destructive measurement method which best represented the static MOE was determined and applied as the MOR(modulus of rupture) estimation index. The MOE that was measured through the longitudinal vibration method showed the highest correlation with the static MOE. The MOR was highly related to the static MOE. Therefore, the non-destruction MOE measured through the longitudinal vibration method was used to estimate the MOR of the lumber.

  • Corrosion of rebar embedded reinforced concrete is the main cause of collapse and degradation of reinforced concrete structure. Degradation occurs in reinforced concrete structures from corrosion caused by the Chloride that the damage other than the severe degradation of the structure in terms of maintenance and construction when the huge expense required and deciding terms is hard. Therefore, early detection of rebar corrosion is important for efficient maintenance and repairing and planning. Meanwhile, how to evaluate the corrosion of the non-destructive measurements have been used a lot. In particular CM-II (corrosion meter) is used to measurement the natural potential, polarization resistance and the resistivity of the concrete, but has some disadvantages. Embedded mini-sensor has been developed in order to overcome these disadvantages. So Measurement corrosion for using the mini-sensor compares with the measured results CM-II (corrosion meter), the developed mini-sensor verify the validity.

  • This paper is to provide the results of a pilot study of the usability and possibility of impact force response signal induced from impacting an object for the assessment of compressive strength of various materials (rock, concrete, wood, etc.) nondestructively. For this study, a device was devised for impacting an object and measuring the impact force. The impact was carried out by an initial rotating free falling impact and following repetitive impacts from the rebound action which eventually disappears. Wood and rock test specimens for different strengths were tested and an impact force response signal was measured for each test specimen. The total impact force signal energy which is assessed from integrating the impact force response signal was compared with the directly measured compressive strength for each specimen. The comparison showed that the total impact force signal energy has a direct relationship with the directly measured compressive strength and the results clearly indicated that the compressive strength of construction materials can be assessed nondestructively using total impact force signal energy which is assessed from integrating the impact force response signal induced from impacting an object.

  • This paper is to provide the results of usability of the impact force response signal induced from initial and successive rebound impacting a rock specimen for assessing the compressive strength of rock non-destructively. For this study, a device was devised for impacting a rock specimen and a system for measuring the impact force was set up. The impact was carried out by an initial rotating free falling impact and following repetitive impacts from the rebound action which eventually disappears. Three different kinds of rock specimen were tested and an impact force response signal was measured for each test specimen. The total impact force signal energy which is assessed from integrating the impact force response signal induced from initial and rebound impacts was compared with the directly measured compressive strength for each rock specimen. The comparison showed that the total impact force signal energy has a direct relationship with the directly measured compressive strength and the results clearly indicated that the compressive strength of rock can be assessed non-destructively using total impact force signal energy.
