  • The purpose of this study was to apply Keller's ARCS motivational model to the business major English class and to investigate the effects of ARCS model on learning motivation and academic achievement. The subject for this study was 27 junior students majoring in business administration who took the business major English class. As a means of measurement, questionnaires and the results of written tests were used. The analysis on the results of the two groups, the experimental group applying ARCS model and the comparison group using the traditional lecture method, showed that the teaching-learning method applying ARCS model for the business major English class was effective in improving all elements of learning motivation such as attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction, and in improving academic achievement in business English and business-related content.

  • As interest in software education has increased, discussions on teaching, learning, and evaluation method it have also been active. One of the problems of software education teaching method is that the instructor cannot grasp the content of coding in progress in the learner's computer in real time, and therefore, instructors are limited in providing feedback to learners in a timely manner. To overcome this problem, in this study, we developed a software education support system that grasps the real-time learner coding situation under block-based programming environment by applying a learning analysis technique and delivers it to the instructor, and visualizes the data collected during learning through the Hadoop system. The system includes a presentation layer to which teachers and learners access, a business layer to analyze and structure code, and a DB layer to store class information, account information, and learning information. The instructor can set the content to be learned in advance in the software education support system, and compare and analyze the learner's achievement through the computational thinking components rubric, based on the data comparing the stored code with the students' code.

  • In recent years, Ubiquitous City (u-City), the integrated and convergence of ubiquitous services, infrastructure, technologies and city management of the new future development city, is being initiated by the Korean government and local authorities as their new national growth engine. However, a performance measurement system for evaluating and monitoring the impacts of U-City implementation is yet to be established. This paper aims to develop an integrated performance management system (PMS) and extensively used as a tool for managing performance activities to support the visions and goals of the u-City operations. Based on current reviews on the literature and interviews with experts drew Critical Success Factors (CSF) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) by four different measurement domains including U-City services, infrastructure, technologies, management and developed into an integrated performance measurement system based on the Balanced Scored Card (BSC) perspective. The system also provides number of examples of 'u-City Strategy Map' which illustrates a causal relationship between CSFs to execute u-City visions and goals.
