Polymer-modified mortar and concrete are prepared by mixing either a polymer or monomer in a dispersed, or liquid form with fresh cement mortar and concrete mixtures, and subsequently curing, and if necessary, the monomer contained in the mortar or concrete is polymerized in situ. Although polymers and monomers in any form such as latexes, water-soluble polymers, liquid resins, and monomers are used in cement composites such as mortar and concrete, it is very important that both cement hydration and polymer phase formation proceed well the yield a monolithic matrix phase with a network structure in which the hydrated cement phase and polymer phase interpenetrate. In the polymer-modified mortar and concrete structures, aggregates are bound by such a co-matrix phase, resulting in the superior properties of polymer-modified mortar and concrete compared to conventional mortar and concrete. The purpose of this study is to obtain the necessary basic data to develope appropriate latexes as cement modifiers, and to clarify the effects of the monomer ratios and amount of emulsifier on the properties of the polymer-modified mortars using methyl methacrylate-butyl acrylate(MMA/BA) and methyl methacrylate-ethyl acrylate(MMA/EA) latexes. The results of this study are as follows, the water absorption, chloride ion penetration depth and carbonation depth of MMA/BA-modified mortar are lowest. However, they are greatly affected by the polymer-cement ratio rather than the bound MMA content and type of polymer.
These studles were conducted to investigate the development of chem~cal resistance and cross.resista. nce m dlarnondback moth (Piuteiia xylostella L). The resistance development of diamondback moth greatly vaned under single selection of five insectlades. The tnflumuron and lambda cyhalothnn strains at 8th selected generation showed 374- and 29.l.fold resistant levels. respectively, as compared with the susceptible strain. However, the Baciilus thuringiensis-seleded at 8th selected generatLon exhibited 240-fold resistant level. and the prothiophos-selected at 8th generation revealed 14.3-fold resistant !eve1 while the cartap hydrochloride-selected at 8th generailon showed 9.1-fold resistant level Prothiophos- selected strain showed low cross-resistance level to cartap hydrochloride, while this strain exhibited no cross-resistance of 1.3 to 2.8-fold to other msectlcides. Cartap hydrochlonde- seleded strain showed 19.9-fold. a high cross-resistance to lambda cyhalothrin, but this strain showed 2.2-34 fold, no cross resistance to other insecticide. Lambda cyhalothnn-selected strain exhibited cross-resistance to cartap hydrochlolide and prothiophas. Triflumuron-seleded strain showed 1.3-4.9 fold. no cross-resistance to other ~nsectic~dTe he B. ihuring~ensis-selededs train showed no cross-resistance to other insecticides.
Properties of porosity, compressional wave velocity, velocity anisotropy, electrical resistivity, and resistivity anisotropy are measured and calculated for two DSDP clay-rich hemipelagic sequences in the northwestern Pacific. Velocity and resistivity increase with burial depth at the expense of decreasing porosity. Profiles of velocity anisotropy and resistivity anisotropy show almost the same trend. Horizontally developed low aspect ratio pores may generate velocity and resistivity anisotropy. The preferred orientation of clay minerals is also believed to be responsible for the observed anisotropy.
Electrical resistivity of 23 core samples from Ulleung Island at dry or saturated condition has been measured along with dry density and effective porosity, and the relations between the properties has also been discussed. Upper and lower bounds of electrical resistivity at room temperature can be provided by the dry- and saturated-resistivity, respectively. Injecting nitrogen gas to the pore space at the very end of drying process can prevent humid air from getting into the pore space, so that measurement of dry-resistivity can be less affected by humidity in the air. Dry density and porosity have very close correlation; the ratio between increase of porosity and the decrease of density showed distinct relation to the rock types, such that basaltic rocks showed higher ratio while trachytic rocks showed lower. Saturated resistivity showed close correlation to density and effective porosity of the rock sample, while dry resistivity didn't.

We have investigated the magnetoresistance (MR) effect of the spin valve structures composed of perpendicularly magnetized Pd/Co multilayers, with changing the space layer (Pd or Cu) thickness, the stacking number of the Pd/Co multilayers, and the Co insertion-layer thickness. The Cu space layer showed larger MR ratio than the Pd space layer. The Co insertion-layer between Cu layer and pinned layer enhanced the MR ratio about three times. The maximum MR ratio of 7.4 % was established in the sample with the Co insertion-layer thickness of 0.62 and 1.01 nm.
In this study, electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) were conducted to find the mineralized zone at the Geumpung mine in Dojeon-ri, Susan-myeon, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do. The deviation of the inclined borehole was measured to obtain the exact positions of the electrodes for correcting apparent resistivity values from ERT. Geophysical loggings such as resistivity and natural gamma were conducted to obtain the properties of the material near the borehole. Measurements of the physical properties of the cores, such as porosity, water content, density, susceptibility, resistivity were performed to analyze the correlation between physical properties and resistivity. Grade analysis for core sample was also conducted to identify relationship between grade and resistivity. Rock property analysis shows that the resistivity is more dominated by susceptibility and grade than by porosity and water content in the mineralized zone. The results of ERT are well consistent with geophysical logging data and geologic column. So ERT is powerful method to identify conductive mineralized zone.
As a part of trying to get the resistivity values correctly from laboratory core resistivity measurement, the effect of sample holders in resistivity measurement was analyzed and a better way to determine the representative resistivity value from the time series resistivity data was searched. Modified GS type and modified two-electrode type sample holders were devised and their effects have been compared with those of GS and two-electrode type sample holders. The modified two-electrode type sample holder has benefits both in repetition and simplicity in data acquisition. The analysis of distribution trend of the time series resistivity data obtained with different kind of sample holders and source frequencies shows that the maximum curvature point method gives the best result in determining representative resistivity value.
