The impacts of foreign institutional investors and governance mechanism on the cost of debt (외국인 기관투자자와 기업지배구조가 차입비용에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper examines the impact of corporate governance structure on the cost of debt. Total sample is divided into the small sample, the medium sample and the large sample of equity concentration, based on the equity ownership of large shareholders. Our regression results show that foreign investors are not associated with the cost of debt in the small and medium samples of equity ownership, whereas foreign investors are significantly associated with the reduction in the cost of debt in the large sample of equity concentration. Academic implications of our findings are that as the ownership of dominating shareholders rises, they seek their private interests of perks causing an increase in agency costs and a decrease in firm's economic value, thus expanding borrowing costs. Practical business implications are that foreign investors may alleviate agency problem of dominating large shareholders in the firm through monitoring activities, thus enhancing the efficiency of business decision-makings.

Analysis of Life Cycle Costs of Railway Track : A Case Study for Ballasted and Concrete Track for High-Speed Railway (철도 궤도의 수명주기비용 분석 : 고속철도 자갈궤도와 콘크리트궤도 사례 연구)

  • In the decision-making, such as selection of structure, construction method, or time and scheme of maintenance, the evaluation of life-cycle cost(LCC) is of great importance. The maintenance cost occupy a large portion of the LCC of the railway track as well as the initial construction cost. Futhermore, the proportion of the maintenance cost is much higher in the ballasted track. Thus, the importance of the LCC evaluation is higher than in any other engineering structures. In this study, a LCC model that can consider various design parameters such as the type of track structure, annual traffic volume, axle load, train speed, and proportion of curve sections and engineering structures has been developed. Fundamental data for calculating costs also have been presented. Based on the model and data proposed, the trends in the variation of LCC according to the design parameters were examined and the most important design parameters in the LCC analysis of railway track were investigated. The results show that the proportion of renewal and operational costs is much higher in the ballasted track than in the concrete track, and the annual traffic volume and ballast taming period are most significant factors on the LCC of the ballasted track. On the contrary, it is revealed that the proportion of the initial construction costs in the concrete track is much higher, and the LCC of the concrete track is less sensitive to the traffic volume, train speed, and axle load.

  • 분산 데이터베이스 시스템 환경에서는 특정 노드로 집중되는 부하의 분산이나 가용성 및 안정성 제공을 위해 데이터 분할기법 (fragmentation)과 복제기법(replication)을 사용한다. 이때 전송된 데이터에 대한 기존의 색인 재활용 기법과 벌크 로딩(bulk loading) 기법은 효율적인 색인 구성을 위해 논리적인 페이지 포인터를 물리적 주소로 변환하는 물리적 사상구조를 필요로 하거나, 색인 구성시간과 검색성능 모두를 향상시키지 못하는 문제점을 지닌다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위해 색인 전송기법을 제안한다. 본 기법은 색인 재활용을 위해 물리적 사상구조를 추가로 유지하거나, 검색 성능을 향상시키기 위해 전체 데이터 집합을 정렬하는 것이 아니라, 데이터가 전송될 사이트에 색인구조물 저장하기 위한 물리적 공간은 예약하고 예약된 공간에 색인구조를 전송, 기록함으로써 색인 구성비용을 줄이게 된다. 또한 예약된 공간을 연속적인 페이지구조로 구성함으로써 색인 구성 시 자식노드에 대한 위치정보를 예상하여 부모노드가 지니는 자식노드에 대한 위치정보 기록 비용을 줄일 수 있다.

  • 급증하는 인터넷 관련 기술들과 사용자들을 현재의 네트워크 기반 구조로 포용하기에는 한계가 있다. 사용자들은 끊임없이 새로운 서비스들을 요구하고 현재의 망은 그러한 다양한 서비스들을 제공하기 위한 하부구조들이 정의되어 있진 않은 실정이다. 새로운 네트워크 하부 구조를 정의하는데 소요되는 비용과 새로운 서비스들을 제공하기 위해 개발될 프로토콜의 적용 비용을 줄이기 위해서 제안된 것이 액티브 네트워크의 개념이다. 사용자 기반의 네트워크환경을 제공하는 액티브 네트워크는 실행 환경과 노드 운영체제로 구성되어 있는 구조를 제공하며 바로 이 실행 환경을 이용해 노드 사용자들은 가상 액티브 노드를 만들어 새로운 서비스를 생성할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 노드 사용자에 의해서 생성되는 가상 액티브 노드를 위한 MIB의 관리 구조에 대해서 제안하였으며 마크업 언어인 XML을 적용하여 기존의 표준 망 관리 프로토콜인 SNMP와도 호환성을 가질 수 있고 다양한 MIB 표현을 지원할 수 있는 구조를 제안하였다.

Optimal Life-Cycle Cost Design of Steel Box Girders (강박스 거더의 생애주기비용 최적설계)

  • This paper presents a design method to minimize Life Cycle Cost (LCC) of steel box girders. The LCC considered in this paper includes initial cost, expected life-cycle maintenance cost and repair cost. A load carrying capacity curve is derived from a condition grade curve of steel girders and load tarrying capacity that is measured in safety diagnostic test. And then, optimal design of steel box girders is performed on the basis of load carrying capacity curve. In this paper time and number of times for repair of steel girders are determined based on the calculated load carrying capacity curve. Also, annual costs considering real discount rate are compared and analyzed in various cases. It is concluded that the optimal design of steel box gilders considering LCC by the presented method will lead to more economical and safer girders than conventional design.

  • It has been recognized that implementing the marginal price mechanism to CBP is not acceptable due to the lack of revenue of the marginal generators. This study shows that it is not the problem of marginal price mechanism but the structural problems originated by the suspension of restructuring, the technical limits of RSC program and inaccuracy of the generation cost estimation method. This study explains the method to calculate the cost function in operating modes of the CC generators and proposes the modeling for the CC generators in RSC program. To implementing the cost function in operating modes could give an opportunity to change the price setting mechanism from average to marginal cost. The price setting mechanism based on the marginal cost will be one of the main points to provide the right price signals and to introduce a real-time and A/S markets to prepare the energy transition era.

시장가치 대차대조표를 이용한 자본비용과 베타분석

  • 본 연구는 MM(1963)에 의하여 시작된 기존의 기업가치와 자본구조에 대한 연구 방법과는 달리, Rao(1987), Howe(1995), Brealey-Myers(1996)등을 중심으로 시도되어 온 시장가치 대차대조표(MVB/S)를 이용한 기업가치와 자본비용의 통합적 분석방법을 소개하였다. 그리고 MM(1963)에 가정을 추가함으로써 변형된 기업가치 모형과 자본비용에 대한 연구방법을 시도한 Modigliani(1988), Miles-Ezzell(1980)와 Taggart(1991)의 연구가 MVB/S를 이용하여도 동일하게 적용할 수 있음을 증명하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 MM(1963)의 명제들로부터 유도되는 관계식인 가중평균자본비용과 무부채기업의 자기자본비용과의 관계(MM명제III)와 부채사용기업의 자기자본 비용과 무부채기업의 자기자본비용과의 관계(MM명제II)를 Modigliani(1988), Miles-Ezzell(1980)와 Taggart(1991)의 가정하에서 MVB/S를 이용하여 각각 유도하였다. 그리고 MVB/S를 이용하여 유도된 자본비용들간의 제관계식이 이들의 연구결과와 동일함을 증명하였다. 나아가 개인소득세가 존재할 경우에 무위험주식의 도입을 통하여 기업가치모형을 유도하고 이를 바탕으로 자본비용들간의 제관계식을 유도하고 아울러 베타분석도 실시하였다.

  • In this paper, we propose new cell structures using multi-hop Relay Station(RS) based on IEEE802.16j in Narrow-Beam Trisector Cell (NBTC) and Wide-Beam Trisector Cell (WBTC), which are two methods for cell sectorization using 3-sector directional antennas. Then, we analyze our proposed structures compared with the existing system which does not use any RS about the numbers of optimized Base Station (BS) and multi-hop relay, the extended BS coverage, and the deployment cost according to the traffic density using optimization model. According to the results, we know the reduction of total deployment cost of the proposed systems and that WBTC is suitable when the traffic density is high and NBTC is suitable when the traffic density is low in our proposed multi-hop based NBTC and WBTC structures.

  • This study is concerned with the optimum design of stiffened cylindrical members frequently found in floating offshore platforms with constraints on reliability. Minimised is the expected total cost which is composed of the structural cost and the expected failure cost. Some design requirements drawn from variotus design codes are also considered as constraints. Reliability of critical component in a structure only is considered in this paper and the system failure is discarded since the probability of system failure is in general much smaller than the probability of component failure and it is very difficult to evaluate the cost due to system failure. Ultimate strength only is considered and not the fatigue strength. Several parametric studies are illustrated and the optimum solutions for different strength models which are now in use for the design of stiffened cylinders are derived to show the optimum designs against different strength models for the same type of structural component. The present results lead to the important conclusions relating to the posibility of more cost saving in the design of such structure through the reliability-based optimisation process.

An Efficient Compression Method for Multi-dimensional Index Structures (다차원 색인 구조를 위한 효율적인 압축 방법)

  • Over the last decades, improvements in CPU speed have greatly exceeded those in memory and disk speeds by orders of magnitude and this enabled the use of compression techniques to reduce the database size as well as the query cost. Although compression techniques are employed in various database researches, there is little work on compressing multi-dimensional index structures. In this paper, we propose an efficient compression method called the hybrid encoding method (HEM) that is tailored to multi-dimensional indexing structures. The HEM compression significantly reduces the query cost and the size of multi-dimensional index structures. Through mathematical analyses and extensive experiments, we show that the HEM compression outperforms an existing method in terms of the index size and the query cost.
