Postbuckling Analyses and Derivations of Shell Knockdown Factors for Isogrid-Stiffened Cylinders Under Compressive Force and Internal Pressure (압축력과 내부 압력을 동시에 받는 등방성 격자 원통 구조의 후좌굴 해석 및 좌굴 Knockdown factor의 도출)

  • This study derives numerically the shell Knockdown factors for the isogrid-stiffened cylinders of space launch vehicles when the axially compressive force and internal pressure are applied simultaneously. A commercial nonlinear finite element analysis software, ABAQUS, is used for the present work. Nonlinear postbuckling analyses are conducted to calculate the global buckling loads of a cylinder without and with the internal pressure. The shell Knockdown factor is numerically derived using the predicted global buckling loads without and with the geometrically initial imperfection of a cylinder. When the internal pressure of 500 kPa and compressive force are applied to the cylinder, the global buckling load and Knockdown factor increases by 304% and 53%, respectively, as compared to the results without the internal pressure.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the inelastic behavior of precast segmental prestressed concrete bridge piers. A computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. An unbonded tendon element based on the finite element method, that can represent the interaction between tendon and concrete of prestressed concrete member, is used. A joint element is newly developed to predict the inelastic behaviors of segmental joints. The proposed numerical method for the inelastic behavior of precast segmental prestressed concrete bridge piers is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • The latest study for formulation of finite element method and computation techniques has progressed widely. The classical method in the formulation of frame elements for geometrically nonlinear analysis derives the geometric stiffness directly from the governing differential equation for bending with axial force. From the computational viewpoint of this paper, the most common approach is the finite element method. Commonly, the formulation of frame elements for geometrically nonlinear structures is based on appropriate interpolation functions for the transverse and axial displacements of the member. The formulation of flexibility-based elements, on the other hand, is based on interpolation functions for the internal forces. In this paper, a new method is used to suppose that interpolation functions for the displacements from the curvatures is Lagrangian interpolation. This paper derives flexibility matrix from that displacement functions and is considered the application of it. Using the flexibility matrix, this paper apply the program considered geometrically nonlinear analysis to common problems.

A Investigation on Inelastic Lateral-Torsional Buckling Strength of I-Beam with Load Height Effects (하중고 효과가 비탄성 I형보의 횡-비틀림 좌굴거동에 미치는 영향 고찰)

  • 일반적으로 I형 보에 횡하중이 작용하는 경우, 횡 변위와 함께 회전을 동반하는 횡-비틀림 좌굴(Lateral-Torsional Buckling)이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 I형 보의 탄성 및 비탄성 횡-비틀림 좌굴에 대한 해석적 이론적 연구는 이미 많은 연구자들에 의해 수행되었다(Timoshenko 등, 1961; Galambos, 1963; Lindner, 1974; Trahair, 1993). I형 보의 비지지 길이 내 하중이 작용할 때 모멘트 구배계수(Cb)는 하중이 부재 단면에 작용하는 위치에 따라 달라지게 되는데 이를 하중고 효과(Load Height Effects)라고 한다. 탄성 영역 내 비지지길이가 존재하는 I형 보의 하중고 효과를 고려한 모멘트 구배계수 제안식은 Nethercot & Rockey(1971)에 의해 연구된 바 있다. 또한 Helwig 등(1997)은 Nethercot & Rockey(1971)의 제안식을 간략화 하여 탄성 영역 내 비지지길이가 존재하는 I형 보의 하중고 효과를 고려한 모멘트 구배계수식을 제안하였다. 그러나 현재까지 진행 된 하중고 효과에 대한 연구는 탄성 영역 내 비지지 길이가 존재하는 I형 보에 대한 제안식이며 현재까지 비탄성 영역 내 비지지 길이를 갖는 I형 보의 하중고 효과에 대한 연구는 진행된 바 없다. 본 연구는 비탄성 영역 내 비지지 길이가 존재하는 I형 보의 하중고 효과를 고려한 비탄성 횡-비틀림 좌굴강도에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 하중조건으로는 집중하중 과 등분포 하중을 적용시켰으며, 비선형 횡-비틀림 좌굴 해석을 위해 잔류응력 및 초기변형을 고려하였다. Pi와 Trahair(1995)이 고려한 단순직선분포를 잔류응력으로 가정하였으며, 국내 I형강 표준 치수 허용치(현대제철, 2006)에 근거하여 부재 길이의 0.1%를 초기 최대 횡 변위로 적용하여 초기제작오차로 고려하였다. 유한요소해석결과를 바탕으로 Nethercot & Rockey(1971)와 Helwig 등(1997)의 연구내용을 바탕으로 범용구조해석 프로그램(ABAQUS, 2007)을 이용하여 비탄성 영역 내 존재하는 I형보의 횡-비틀림 좌굴강도를 산정하였다. 유한요소해석결과를 바탕으로 Nethercot & Rockey(1971)및 Helwig 등(1997)의 모멘트구배계수 제안식과 비교 분석 하였고 회기분석프로그램 MINITAB(2006)을 이용하여 비탄성 영역 내 비지지길이가 존재하는 I형보의 하중고 효과를 고려한 모멘트구배계수식을 개발 제안하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 제안식은 경제적이고 합리적인 휨부재 강도평가에 적극 활용될 수 있으며, 비탄성 영역내 I형보의 횡-비틀림 좌굴강도 및 휨강도 연구에 널리 활용될 것이다.

Numerical Analysis on the Stress Behaviours Due to Geometry Effects of the Membrane Corrugation (멤브레인의 주름 형상이 응력거동에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치적 해석)

  • This paper presents the numerical results of six corrugation models which compute the stress behaviours and stress levels of the membrane structure under the hydrostatic pressure of cryogenic liquids and thermal loadings using a non -linear finite element analysis program. A three-dimensional analysis of various corrugation geometries was performed on the maximum mean normal stress distributions along the upper surface of the membrane sheet. Comparisons of the FEM results for various geometry models of the corrugation are presented, which shows that the corrugated configuration of the ring knot model can be effectively performed for the combined forces such as the hydrostatic pressure and thermal loading in comparison with the Technigaz type corrugation which has small comer and apex curvatures. The FEM results show that the ring knot corrugation can be used for the deepest depth, 180m of the LNG storage tank in comparison with other corrugation models.

A Numerical Study on Inplane Nonlinear Buckling Strengths of New Arches Subjected to Uniformly Distributed Loading (수직등분포하중을 받는 신형식단면 원형아치리브의 비선형 면내좌굴강도에 대한 해석연구)

  • This paper investigates the characteristics of buckling loads for steel arches with new type cross section which is consisted of T-section and pipe-section. A general purpose finite-element program ABAQUS was used to evaluate the inelastic buckling strengths of the arches which included the influence of the geometric and material nonlinearity. According to the comparisons between earlier studies and results from finite-element analyses, new design equations should be developed for the new arches. New buckling factors were developed to consider influence of rise-to-span ratio and boundary conditions. It is found that the presented factors are sufficiently accurate to predict the inplane buckling loads of new type section steel arches subjected to uniformly distributed loading. The proposed equations can be used to investigate new type steel arches subjected to unsymmetrical loading and composited arches.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a reasonable analytical method for the reinforced concrete beams which shows failure mode of shear and flexure-shear by proposing a modified formulation to consider the effect of shear deformation on the beam-column fiber element based on the flexibility method and a new constitutive law of inelastic shear response history for the section. A total of 6 specimens of reinforced concrete beams which is designed to cause shear failure before yielding longitudinal reinforcement to investigate the influence of the main experimental variables on the shear behavior characteristics and the analysis was performed by using a non-linear finite element analysis program (RCAHEST) applying the newly modified constitutive equation by the authors. The failure mode and the overall behavior characteristics until fracture are predicted appropriately for all specimens and the results are expected to be useful enough for the 3 - D analysis to carry out reliable results of large-scale and complicated structures in the future.

Fracture and Hygrothermal Effects in Composite Materials (복합재의 파괴와 hygrothermal 효과에 관한 연구)

  • This is an explicit-Implicit, finite element analysis for linear as well as nonlinear hygrothermal stress problems. Additional features, such as moisture diffusion equation, crack element and virtual crack extension(VCE ) method for evaluating J-integral are implemented in this program. The Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics(LEFM) Theory is employed to estimate the crack driving force under the transient condition for and existing crack. Pores in materials are assumed to be saturated with moisture in the liquid form at the room temperature, which may vaporize as the temperature increases. The vaporization effects on the crack driving force are also studied. The Ideal gas equation is employed to estimate the thermodynamic pressure due to vaporization at each time step after solving basic nodal values. A set of field equations governing the time dependent response of porous media are derived from balance laws based on the mixture theory Darcy's law Is assumed for the fluid flow through the porous media. Perzyna's viscoplastic model incorporating the Von-Mises yield criterion are implemented. The Green-Naghdi stress rate is used for the invariant of stress tensor under superposed rigid body motion. Isotropic elements are used for the spatial discretization and an iterative scheme based on the full newton-Raphson method is used for solving the nonlinear governing equations.

  • Social interest in the seismic retrofit of the structure is growing massive earthquake that occurred recently. The brittle fracture of Non-seismically designed Columns lead to full collapse of the building. In the past, cross-sectional expansion method, a steel plate reinforcing method is applied mainly in recent years, fiber-reinforced method utilizing the advantages of the composite material are preferred. However, the reinforcement methods such as this, there is a drawback to induce physical damage to structures, and time consuming work space is large. IIn this study, FRP seismic reinforcement was developed using the Aluminum connector and the composite material (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer). Then, the optimum quantities of FRP seismic reinforcement was determined using a nonlinear finite element analysis program. Finally, the quantity decision process through the design and analysis of FRP reinforcement was suggested.
