Paternal Childcare Time for Preschool Children and Its Determinants on Working and Nonworking Days (미취학자녀를 둔 아버지의 근무일과 비근무일의 자녀돌봄시간과 영향 요인 - 맞벌이 여부 및 돌봄유형별 차이를 중심으로 -)

  • This study analyzed 2019 time survey data from the National Statistical Office to examine the childcare behaviors of fathers with preschool children and their determinants, considering types of care and working/nonworking days. The main results of this study are as follows. First, paternal childcare time of nonworking days was three times more than that of working days, and the participation rate was also higher on nonworking days. Second, there was no significant difference in the amount of time spent on primary care and developmental care by fathers, whether from dual- or single-income families. Third, it seems that fathers adjust their participation in childcare between working days and nonworking days in consideration of the mother's time availability. Fourth, the variables related to childcare needs had a significant influence on paternal childcare time on both working and nonworking days. Fathers' developmental care time was not explained by the independent variables entered into the regression analysis. As a result of the study, it is necessary to reduce fathers' working hours and increase family-friendly systems to increase fathers' participation in childrearing. Fathers' perception of parental responsibility must also be changed.

  • This study focused on the time use of a dual-earner working group with preschool children on working and nonworking days using 2014 time-use survey data provided by Statistics Korea(KOSTAT). We collected the time-use data recorded in a 2,158 time diary. We divided the time use into 4 parts ; paid work, household labor work (including caring work), leisure and living essentials. For the statistical analysis, we used SPSS 18.0 packages, i.e., descriptive statistics, T-test, Anova with Duncan test and regression for the impact off the independent factors. The results verified gender differences in time use and recognized the usefulness of the time-allocation analysis for the diagnosis of Work and Life Balance(WLB). In the conclusion, we suggest increasing men's time allocation for household labor as a crucial solution to the WLB of dual-earner working groups. And the follow-up study should include the various factors that affect the time allocation of dual-earner groups, such as type of labor and job and children's ages.

  • Craniofrontonasal dysplasia(CFND), a rare congenital syndrome, is characterized by varying degrees of frontonasal dysplasia, craniosynostosis, and variable extracranial abnormalities. It was first reported by Cohen in 1979. The inheritance pattern is not straightforward. Although all modes of Mendelian inheritance have been suggested, the most plausible explanation is that this is an X-linked condition with the unusual situation of complete expression in females, and minimal to no expression in males. In our case, CFND was diagnosed in a female neonate who had unilateral coronal craniosynostosis, frontal bossing, orbital hypertelorism, broad nasal root, clefting nasal tip, corpus callosum agenesis and mild extremity abnormalities.

  • The growth of germ tube of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum was remarkably inhibited on the water agar treated with 100ppm of Fe-EDDHA, a synthetic iron chelating agent, whereas germination rate of microconidia did not show much differences compare with that of non treated water agar. Both of the germination and the germ tube elongation of microconidia were suppressed significantly in King's B agar by the bacterial siderophores produced by Pseudomonas putida. The highest germination of the chlamydospores was obtained in the soil added with $0.25\%$ of glucose plus $0.05\%$ of asparagine. The chlamydospores of cucumber wil fungus germinated about $14\%$ in rhizosphere soil of 2 day-old cucumber seedlings within 48 hours, and the germination was enhanced notably in rhizosphere soil of 10 day-old seedling. But the rates of germination was not increased according to cucumber growth age after 10 day-old seedling. The effect of P. putida and Fe-EDDHA on the germination on chlamydospores in conducive soil was not pronounced in the non-rhizosphere soil added with nutrient. However, the germination was suppressed significantly both in rhizosphere soil and in rhizosphere soil added with nutrient. The suppression of chlamydospore germination was greater in the bacteria inoculated soil than that in Fe-EDDHA treated soil.

Spatial Distribution of Rice Root under Long-term Chemical and Manure Fertilization in Paddy (화학비료 및 희비 장기시용에 따른 벼 뿌리 분포 특성)

  • It is well known that root distribution of rice is a crucial factor for nutrient absorbtion and affect by soil fertility management. However, the findings on root distribution are limited due to laborious and tedious work. The characteristics of root distribution were investigated in long-term fertilizer experiment plots that were established in paddy soil, a fine silty family of typic Hal-paqueps (Pyeongtaeg series) in 1967. fertilizer experiment plots of no fertilizer, compost, NPK and NPK+compost plot have been maintained consistently for the past thirty six year and Npk+silicate plot for the past twenty two years. In NPK plot, 150kg N (urea), 100kg -$\textrm{P}_2\textrm{O}_5$ (fused phosphate) and 100kg $\textrm{K}_2\textrm{O}$(potassium chloride) per hectare have been applied. For NPK+silicate plot, 500kg $\textrm{Si}\textrm{O}_2$ (silicate) was applied in addition to fertilizer in NPK plot. For the compost plot, 10,000kg rice straw compost per hectare were applied. Root samples were taken from the positions of hill-center (below hill) and mid-point of four adjacent rice hills at heading stage by cylinder monolith (CM) method. The soil cores were sampled 20cm depth from the soil surface and partitioned four into layers at an interval of 5cm. The soil particles surrounding roots were washed out with tap water, Length and weight of the roots in each soil layer were measured and root length density (RLD), root weight density (RWD), specific root length(SRL) and rooting depth index (RDI) were calculated. Total root length was measured by intersection method. Plant height, tiller and shoot dry weight were the highest in NPK+compost plot. But RLD of hill-center soil cores was the highest in no-fertilizer plots. In the soil cores from mid-point position of four adjacent hills, RLD at 15-20cm soil depth was higher in compost plot than NPK plot. RLD in compost plots showed even distribution compared to those in chemical- fertilizer plots. RWD was the highest in the NPK+compost plot. SRL was the lowest in the NPK+silicate plot. RDI was the highest in the compost plot. Also, in this experiment it was found that the distribution of roots was closely related to the physical properties of the soil as affected by fertilization management.
