A study on the characteristics of friction in automotive brake lining (자동차용 브레이크 라이닝의 마찰특성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper theoretically analyzed the relations between the out-put braking torque and the wheel cylinder pressure in the leading-trailing drum brake for heavy duty truck as the characteristics of friction in break lining, comparing with the results derived from full-scale inertial brake dynamometer test in actual braking condition to develop reliable brake system in extensive using conditions. The main results obtained are as follows; 1) The characteristic curve representing the relations between BEF (Brake Effectiveness Factor) and Friction coefficient derived from theoretical analysis are consistent with the experimental results of dynamometer test. 2) According to the results of dynamometer test, the friction coefficient of brake lining is subject to initial brake speed and the actual using temperature in brake system.

A Study on Friction Coefficient of Disk Brake Lining for Rolling Stock According to Disk Type (디스크 타입에 따른 철도차량용 디스크 브레이크 라이닝의 마찰계수 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we investigate the change characteristic of friction coefficient of disk brake lining for rolling stock according to disk type, The actual brake tests were carried out under constant brake force and operating sequence by using dynamo-tester. Test results showed that instant friction coefficient was higher in the case of devided disk type rather than single body disk type, Also, averge friction coefficient was appeared similer to the above result. It is thought that ,in the case of devided disk type, friction resistance was increased due to the gap between both side of half disk.

  • The inter-laboratory comparison test which is demanded on the authorized test of ISO/IEC 17025 is the program to guarantee the confidence of test result. This paper, as a part of the inter-laboratory comparison test between South Korea and China, is refered to the characteristic of friction coefficient of disk brake lining for rolling stock according to disk type. Brake tests were carried out under constant brake force and operating sequence by using dynamo-tester according to disk and disk lining types. To establishing the confidence of test result, we calculated A type uncertainty about friction coefficient and investigated the factors about the variation of friction coefficient.

  • This study is to develop a Fe-based disc brake tinning with sponge structure for passenger car of 150km/h train and to concept design with 3 groove type for brake disc reducing hot hair-crack and certainly friction coeifficient. The developping brake linning would be to presumption of thermal stress Max.5.53k9/m0 of the 3 groove type. and It is stable friction coeifficient and wear rate on the Full Scale Brake dynamometer. So 3 groove type must be reduced to hot stress between Brake disc and Linning and Friction temperature is reduced about 20$^{\circ}C$

A study on the improvement of frictional performance of friction material for automobile brake by spray treatment (용사처리에 의한 자동차 브레이크용 마찰재료의 마찰성능개선에 관한 연구)

  • Friction materials for brake linings and clutches have severe performance requirements. The principal function of such frictional elements is to convert kinetic energy to heat, and then either to absorb or to dissipate heat. In order to achieve these objectives, the coefficient of friction must be as high as possible, independent of variations in operating conditions, and the necessary energy conversion must be accomplished with a minimum of wear on the contacting parts. In this study, Al powder, Al bronze powder and Mo powder used in general for automobile brake was sprayed on automobile brake disc to restrain rust and to maintain friction performance. Dynamo and corrosion tests have been carried out. It is concluded that the sprayed disc with Al bronze powder has the most improved frictional performance and anti-corrosive characteristics. The main results obtained can be summarized as follows; 1. From the corrosion current density test for gray cast iron and sprayed disc with powders of Al, Al bronze and Mo, it was cleared that the spray treatment with Al bronze powder showed the most superior anti-corrosive characteristics than other powders. 2. By anode polarization toward the noble direction from corrosion potential, corrosion current density with sprayed brake disc by Al-bronze powder was the lowest. 3. Mean frictional coefficients obtained from dynamo test are as follows : the sprayed disc with Al(99.99%) powder was 0.190 ; the sprayed disc with Al-bronze powder was 0.312 ; the sprayed disc with Mo powder was 0.257 ; the non-sprayed disc of gray cast iron was 0.331. In the case of the sprayed disc Al-bronze powder showed the most excellent frictional characteristics . 4. Amount of burnish quantity obtained from burnish test by dynamometer is as follows : the sprayed disc with Al-powder was 1.079 mm : the sprayed disc with Al-bronze powder was 0.155 mm : the sprayed disc with Mo powder was 0.253 mm : the non-sprayed disc of gray cast iron was 0.241 mm. Al-bronze powder also showed the most excellent burnish characteristics.

  • Mechanical break system used in train, that mixed air break & electronic break system. this system suggest lots of ways for modify efficiency and solution of environmental problems due to recently intend to green growth. The mechanical break system has environmental & economical problem. Environmental sides(problem) are dust and noise etc and economical sides(problem) are replaced the spare parts that are breaking shoe and lining ect. For compensate those kind of weak points, we needs a wide territories of electronic break which is from high speed range to stop. This research is estimated the load torque due to an incline and stop the train method also check the characteristic of stop the train to estimate a torque follow the sharp drop.

The Production, the Use, the Number of Workers and Exposure Level of Asbestos in Korea (우리나라의 석면 생산과 사용 및 근로자 수와 노출농도의 변화)

  • South Korea has been producing asbestos over 60 years. The use of asbestos was over 50 years for production of asbestos slate and 27 years for asbestos friction materials including asbestos textile and brake-lining. Thus, it can be supposed that asbestos related diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma could be found in the vulnerable workers exposed to asbestos in 1955-1975, given the average latency period of 10-30 years. Asbestos was produced primarily by Japanese during World War II In Korea. The production of chrysotile peaked to 4,815 tons in 1944. From 1978 to 1984, 10,000 tons of asbestos were produced annually. However, the production was interrupted by raising labor costs and extinction of mine reserves, and finally they had to depend on import for the need of asbestos. In 1945, there were 16 asbestos mines, in total, with the addition of new asbestos mines in South Korea. Imports of asbestos was increased from 74,000 tons to 95,000 tons during the period of 1976 - 1992. But the imports was reduced to 88,000 tons in 1995. Since, in addition to the import of asbestos itself, the imports of asbestos products were increased as well and the accumulation of asbestos reached to 30,000 tons during the period of 1964 to 1993. In 1965, there was only one asbestos company with 207 employees. But the size of asbestos industry has been expanded so much that 118 asbestos companies could be found in 1993 with 1,476 workers. However, there was no record on the survey of asbestos concentration to which workers were exposed in any companies in 1983. The record of the air-borne concentration of the asbestos in textile working places in 1984 showed 6.7 fibers/cc by geometric mean(GM), but it was reduced to 1.2 fibers/cc in 1993. GMs of asbestos in working places for construction materials and asbestos textiles were also decreased from 1.7 fibers/cc to 0.55 fibers/cc during the period of 1984 - 1996.
