The Factors Affecting Intention of Continuing and Stopping Boycotts: Focused on the Multi-Group Analysis by Participation Duration and Intensity (불매운동 지속의도 및 중단의도에 영향을 미치는 요인: 참여기간 및 강도에 따른 다중집단분석을 중심으로)

  • The strong demand for corporate social responsibility has led to growing consumer boycotts of corporate misconduct. Although there are differences over the legality of the boycott, it is important to develop the boycott in an effective and correct way because of its positive effects in terms of consumer rights and society. This study identified the factors and their influences on the intention of continuing and stopping boycotts when the boycott was becoming popular. In addition, in accordance with the duration(low/high) and intensity(low/high) of consumer boycott participation, the relative influence of antecedent factors on the continuous and discontinuous intention of boycotts was examined. A total of 272 questionnaires were collected from consumers currently participating in the boycott and analyzed. The analysis showed that the preceding factors had discriminatory effects on the intention of continuing and stopping the boycott, and the effects of the preceding factors on the intention of continuing and stopping the boycott were different depending on the duration and intensity of the boycott. Based on the research results, this study suggested implications, limitations, and future research directions.

  • This study examined the social discourse on consumer boycott and explored consumer experience using text mining of mass media and social media data and the in-depth interview. The result showed that the topics of online news related to the boycott included the causes of the boycott, the responses of each actor in the process of the boycott, and the effects of the boycott. In the result of the in-depth interviews, it was found that the boycott has been decentralized and the participants had the experience of exploring and verifying information on their own. In the boycott process, there were mixed experiences due to the absence of substitutes and the marketing influence, and positive experiences of expressing one's thoughts and strengthening beliefs through the boycott.

  • 본 논문에서는 불매운동에 따른 스마트폰의 수출영향에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 2019년에 일본의 한국에 대한 수출규제로 일어난 한국의 불매운동에 대응하여 역으로 일본에서 한국제품 불매운동이 일어난 바 있다. 이 사례를 활용하여, 한국의 일본 수출에 얼마나 타격을 입었는지 살펴보기로 한다. 연구 과정 전반에 걸쳐 수출물품 중 스마트폰의 수출량과 시장 점유율의 변화추이를 살펴보면서 불매운동과 스마트폰의 수출의 상관관계를 알아보았다. 이를 통해 불매운동이 수출입에 미치는 영향과 극복방안을 모색해 볼 수 있는 기회가 됐으면 한다.

Audience's Boycott Movement to the Korean Newspapers in the mid-1920s (일제 강점기의 신문불매운동 연구 : 1920년대 중반을 중심으로)

  • This study analyzes the historical cases of audience's boycott movement to the Korean newspapers in the mid-1920s. five historical cases from 1924 till 1927 were analyzed in this study. These cases have a few differences in comparison with the cases of the early 1920s. Firstly, the boycott movement was activated considerably, and the target of movement was diversified. The number of cases in early 1920s was only two, and the target of both cases were The Dong-A Ilbo. But we could confirm at least 7 cases in mid 1920s through this study. In addition to The Dong-A Ilbo, the target included The Chosun Ilbo, and The Namsun Ilbo published in Masan. The location of the movement was not restricted to Seoul. It was also executed at the small cities and rural areas, such as Masan, Jinnampo, Bugang. Ihe analysis of the context of the boycott reveals that most cases wert caused mainly by the conflict of interest between parties. Some parties that dissatisfied with the coverage of a newspaper resolved and executed the boycott to that newspaper.

  • The boycott of Japanese products triggered by Japan's economic retaliation has heated up the Republic of Korea. This study examined the factors affecting the boycott participation intention in 217 college students and ordinary people in their 20s and 30s. The results of the study showed that perceived egregiousness, self-efficacy, and subjective norm had a positive effect on boycott participation intention, and perceived egregiousness had an indirect effect on boycott participation intention through anger. In addition, these overall impacts were moderated by online and SNS news usage. This study is significant in providing academic and practical implications for understanding boycott phenomena by verifying various influencing factors on consumer boycott intentions and comprehensively reviewing the mediating effect of anger and the moderating effect of online and SNS news usage.

  • This study conducted social network big data analysis to investigate consumer's perception of Japanese sporting goods related to Japanese boycott and to extract problems and variables by recognition. Social network big data analysis was conducted in two areas, "Japanese boycott" and "Japanese sporting goods". Months of data were collected and investigated. If you specify the research method, you will identify the issues of the times - keyword setting using social network analysis - clustering using CONCOR analysis using TEXTOM and Ucinet 6 programs - variable selection through expert meetings - questionnaire preparation and answering - and validity of questionnaire Reliability Verification - It consists of hypothesis verification using the structural model equation. Based on the results of using the big data of social networks, four variables of relevant characteristics, nationality, attitude, and consumption behavior were extracted. A total of 30 questions and 292 questionnaires were used for final hypothesis verification. As a result of the analysis, first, the boycott-related characteristics showed a positive relationship with nationality. Specifically, all of the characteristics related to boycotts (necessary boycott, sense of boycott, and perceived boycott benefits were positively related to nationality. In addition, nationality was found to have a positive relationship with consumption behavior.

Audience's Boycott Movement to the Korean Press in the Early 1920s (1920년대 초반의 신문불매운동 연구)

  • This study discusses on the historical origin of audience's boycott movement to the Korean press. Two historical cases of audience's boycott movement in the early 1920s were analyzed in this study. The first boycott was resolved by the counterforce to the public funeral of Yunsik Kim in February of 1922. This case can be estimated as the historical origin of audience's boycott movement in the Korean media history. The second case was carried out by the National Convention of the Youth Parties in March of 1923. The target of these two cases were The Dong-A Ilbo. And these boycott movement were caused by the conflict and competition between nationalists and socialists in the national independence movement. These two parties were incompatible in the ideology and method of national independence struggle. In the course of their conflict and competition for the initiative socialist party resolved and carried out the boycott movement to The Dong-A Ilbo, because it was regarded as the advocate of the nationalist party.

  • This study is aimed to analyze the concept of media consumer and legal principles for consumer movements protection. Based on the concept and legal principles, this research is to review the characteristics of the advertisement boycott campaign. Article 124 of the Constitution prescribes that the state should guarantee the consumer protection movements. According to the Article 4 of the Framework Act on Consumer, consumers have the fundamental right to obtain proper compensation for damages sustained due to use of goods and etc. according to prompt and fair procedure. The type of boycott can be classified into two pattern on the basis of boycott's target or object. They are primary boycott and. secondary boycott. Consumer's boycott independent of primary or secondary, are under the protection of the consumer's right. Media consumers use scarce resources to satisfy their wants and needs to acquire news information and advertising information. Their resources are time and money. Therefore, ads boycott campaign or media boycott campaign is the primary boycott. Consumer's right should be guaranteed to the maximum. The Constitution and consumer protection law should protect the practice of consumer's right, especially consumer's boycott campaign.

  • 지난해부터 기대를 모아온 일본 소니사의‘PSP(PlayStation Portable)’가 지난달부터 국내에서 예약판매를 통해 본격적으로 출시됐다. 이번 소니사의 PSP 출시는‘독도분쟁’으로 일본제품 불매운동이 일어나고 있는 시기와 맞물렸음에도 불구하고 게임폰과 치열한 경쟁을 펼칠 것으로 보인다. 지난 1월에 휴대전화 게임시장을 예상하면서 몇 가지 이슈 중 하나로 PSP와 국내 대기업들이 내놓은 게임폰의 경쟁을 언급한 바 있는데 드디어 본격적인 대결구도를 형성할 상황이 온 것이다. 한국인에게는 너무도 당연지사인 대한민국 땅‘독도’를 두고 목소리를 높이는 것도 중요하지만 일본제품 불매운동 성과로 보여주는 문화자존심 경쟁도 중요하다고 생각한다. 일본에게‘문화식민지’가 되지 않기를 바라며 이 글을 시작한다.
