The Impact of Tissue Inhomogeneity Corrections in the Treatment of Prostate Cancer with Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (전립선암의 세기조절 방사선 치료시 밀도보정의 효과)

  • Purpose: To investigate the effects of tissue inhomogeneity corrections on the dose delivered to prostate cancer patients treated with Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). Methods and Materials: For five prostate cancer patients, IMRT treatment plans were generated using 6 MV or 10 MV X-rays. In each plan, seven equally spaced ports of photon beams were directed to the isocenter, neglecting the tissue heterogeneity in the body. The dose at the isocenter, mean dose, maximum dose, minimum dose and volume that received more than 95% of the isocenter dose in the planning target volume ( $V_{p>95%}$) were measured. The maximum doses to the rectum and the bladder, and the volumes that received more than 50, 75 and 90% of the prescribed dose were measured. Treatment plans were then recomputed using tissue inhomogeneity correction maintaining the intensity profiles and monitor units of each port. The prescription point dose and other dosimetric parameters were remeasured. Results: The inhomogeneity correction reduced the prescription point dose by an average 4.9 and 4.0% with 6 and 10 MV X-rays, respectively. The average reductions of the $V_{p>95%}$ were 0.8 and 0.9% with the 6 and 10 MV X-rays, respectively. The mean doses in the PTV were reduced by an average of 4.2 and 3.4% with the 6 and 10 MV X-rays, respectively. The irradiated volume parameters in the rectum and bladder were less decreased; less than 2.1 % (1.2%) of the reduction in the rectum (bladder). The average reductions in the mean dose were 1.0 and 0.5% in the rectum and bladder, respectively. Conclusions: Neglect of tissue inhomogeneity in the IMRT treatment of prostate cancer gives rise to a notable overestimation of the dose delivered to the target, whereas the impact of tissue inhomogeneity correction to the surrounding critical organs is less significant.

  • 본 연구에서는 실시간으로 얼굴을 인식, 검증하기 위한 전처리 단계로써 얼굴을 고속으로 추출하고 추출된 영상을 개선하기 위한 효율적인 기법들을 소개한다. 먼저 RGB로 획득되는 영상을 인간의 시각 구조와 유사한 HSI 컬러 모델로 변환하고 여기서 인간의 피부 영역에 해당하는 컬러 분포를 조사하여 대강의 얼굴 영역을 찾고 이 영역을 대상으로 두 개의 가변 템플릿과의 상관도(Correlation)를 이용하여 최적의 얼굴 안면을 찾는다. 보다 나은 얼굴 인식을 위하여 검출된 얼굴 안면 이미지에서 조명 평면(Illumination plane) 이미지를 추출하여 먼저 불균일성을 보정한 다음 평활화(Equalization)를 수행함으로써 영상을 개선한다.

  • This paper describes a thermal image processing algorithm for uncooled type TEC-less IR detector which is applicable to fire control system of small arms. We implemented a real-time gain and offset compensation algorithm based on polynomial approximation from the raw dataset which is acquired by two reference temperature of blackbody from various FPA(Focal Plane Array) temperature. Through the experiment, we analyzed the output characteristics of detector's raw-data and compared IR image quality to traditional non-uniformity correction method. It shows that the proposed method works well in all FPA temperature range with low residual non-uniformity.

  • 고전 천수방정식을 적용한 2차원 도시홍수 모델링에서는 지형의 정확한 반영을 위해 고해상도 격자가 요구되며 이는 많은 계산시간과 노력을 필요로 한다. 최근에는 다공성 천수방정식을 적용한 도시홍수해석으로 많은 계산 노력이 요구되는 도시홍수모델링의 한계를 극복한 연구가 많이 이루어지지고 있다. 이러한 연구는 도시 홍수에서 흐름이 공간적으로 변화할 때 불균일 공극이 존재하므로 격자의 크기를 다르게 하여 이러한 불균일성을 해결하고자 하는 등방성 천수모형의 적용에서 시작되었다. 하지만, 등방성 공극을 고려한 도시홍수 해석모형은 대표요소체적(REV)보다 더 큰 격자의 적용을 해야 하는 제한성을 가진다. 반면, 비등방성 공극은 대표요소체적의 적용이 필요하지 않아 불균일 공극의 크기에 관계없이 이론상으로는 동일한 해상도의 격자가 사용가능하긴 하지만, 실제 도시홍수 해석에서 중요하면서도 도전적인 연구이다. 본 연구에서는 도시홍수의 효율적 계산을 위해 비등방성 공극을 고려한 적분형 다공성 천수방정식을 기반으로 하는 2차원 도시홍수 해석모형을 개발하였다. 모형의 개발을 위해, 적용 격자내에서 도시지역의 건물이 차지하는 길이 및 면적을 산정하고 그 값을 2차원 천수방정식에 적용 가능하도록 체적공극(𝜙j)와 면적공극(𝜓k)을 2차원 고전 천수방정식에 추가하였다. 개발모형은 고전 천수방정식, 등방성 공극 고려(미분형 다공성) 천수방정식 및 비등방성 공극 고려(적분형 다공성) 천수방정식의 적용이 가능하여, 각 모형에 적합한 2차원 격자 생성, 각 모형의 매개변수를 보정 그리고 정확성, 효율성, 적용성이 비교 가능하다. 각 모형의 정확성과 효율성 비교를 위해 3가지의 오차 비교 (구조적 오차, 격자크기 오차, 공극 모형 오차), 계산시간 비교, 공간 변동성 검증을 위한 수심 종단형상 비교하였다.

Skew Correction of Document Images using Edge (에지를 이용한 문서영상의 기울기 보정)

  • This paper proposes an algorithm detecting the skew of the degraded as well as the clear document images using edge and correcting it. The proposed algorithm detects edges in a character region selected by image complexity and generates projection histograms by projecting them to various directions. And then it detects the document skew by estimating the edge concentrations in the histograms and corrects the skewed document image. For the fast skew detection, the proposed algorithm uses downsampling and 3 step coarse-to-fine searching. In the skew detection of the clear and the degraded images, the maximum and the average detection errors in the proposed algorithm are about 50% of one in a conventional similar algorithm and the processing time is reduced to about 25%. In the non-uniform luminance images acquired by a mobile device, the conventional algorithm can't detect skews since it can't get valid binary images, while the proposed algorithm detect them with the average detection error of 0.1o or under.

  • To correctly detect muras, visual defects in TFT-LCD panels, image distortion occurring on the profess of capturing panels should be corrected. In general vision systems, there are several known methods to restore the observed image. However, the vignetting effect particularly shown only in panel images cannot be easily restored through traditional methods because it is combined with background non-uniformity due to the unique characteristic of panel. To increase the reliability of image restoration, the vignetting effect should be properly corrected after being separated from image background. Therefore, in this paper we present a new method to analyze and correct the vignetting effect of panel images using principal component analysis. Experimental results for a total of 175 test images showed that the average contrast error of the muras in the distorted images was reduced from 37% to 11% and the mura misidentification rate was decreased from 14.8% to 2.2% by image restoration.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method of automatic thickness measurement and defect inspection system, which measures the thickness of the autoclaved lightweight concrete block and inspects the defect on a real-time basis. The image processing system was established with a CCD camera, an image grabber, and a personal computer without using assembled measurement equipment. For the realization of proposed algorithm, the preprocessing method that can be applied to overcome uneven lighting environment, threshold decision method, unit length decision method in uneven condition with rocking objects, and the curvature calibration method of camera using a constructed grid are developed. From the experimental results, we have found that the required measurement accuracy specification is sufficiently satisfied using our proposed method.

  • The propagation patterns of nitrogen during rainfall events are unsteady and heterogeneous due to the characteristics of generation and transport mechanisms. A simulation of non point source pollution was performed using GRASS-AGNPS to examine efficient management methods for diffusive pollution. Digital Elevation Model(DEM) was prepared to estimate the impact of topography on the transport pattern of diffusive pollutant Hanjaechon watershed on the Kyungbook province was selected as a study ares. Water quality samples were collected and analyzed for the calibration of the model. A heuristic approach was employed to improve the model performance. The model could successfully produce spatial distributions of nitrogen. The constructed map-layers may help to decision makers to determine the best management practices.

Skew Correction of Business Card Images for PDA Application (PDA 응용을 위한 명함 영상의 회전 보정)

  • We present an efficient algorithm for skew correction of business card images obtained by a PDA (personal digital assistant) camera. The proposed method is composed of four parts: block adaptive binarization (BAB), stripe generation, skew angle calculation, and image rotation. In the BAB, an input image is binarized block by block so as to lessen the effect of irregular illumination and shadow over the input image. In the stripe generation, character string clusters are generated merging adjacent characters and their strings, and then only clusters useful for skew angle calculation are output as stripes. In the skew angle calculation, the direction angles of the stripes are calculated using their central moments and then the skew angle of the input image is determined averaging the direction angles. In the image rotation, the input image is rotated by the skew angle. Experimental results shows that the proposed method yields skew correction rates of about 93% for test images of several types of business cards acquired by a PDA under various surrounding conditions.

A Scene Based Nonuniformity Correction Technique of Linear Array Infrared Detector (선형배열 적외선 검출기의 배경 기반 불균일 보정기법)

  • A Scene Based Technique(SBT) that corrects linear array infrared detector's nonuniformity is proposed. Basically, this technique dispenses with using temperature references on a linear array infrared detector. To correct the nonuniformity of infrared images, we use three methods. Firstly, we detect bad channels by using the information which is cumulated all the same line pixels. Secondly, a variable window method is applied to compensate more accurately. Thirdly, an adaptive method which updates gain and offset coefficient is used only on a stationary region. These results are demonstrated on a computer simulation with various images. As a result, the nonuniformity is corrected completely, so that images are enhanced and PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) is improved much.
