Kim et al.(I999) presented a non-linear finite element formulation of spatial ocean cables using multiple noded cable elements. The initial equilibrium state of ocean cables subjected to self-weights, support motions, and current forces was determined using the load incremental method and free vibration analysis were performed considering added mass, In this paper, the methods to generate regular and irregular waves and calculate wave forces due to these waves are discussed and challenging example problems are presented in order to investigate dynamic non-linear behaviors of ocean cables subjected to wave loadings.

Methods of damage detection are used non-destructive test in concrete structures. These are using various sensors, but the most of damage detections are used a visual angle of human. Problems of crack damage detection are occurred to directions and boundary conditions of steel bars using accelerometer in concrete element. In this study, fundamental studies for estimation using 3 axial type of accelerometer and electric resistance property of thermocouple sensors are discussed estimation to effect of arranged steel bars and damage from low strength when they are oscillated elastic wave in concrete specimen.
Accurate estimation of the first arrival travel time is an essential task to obtain a high resolution velocity tomogram. Accuracy of the travel time estimation may be influenced by two factors; geological and mechanical. A serious mechanical factor is the source firing control problems. We found the control problems in the records generated by tome impulsive borehole sources. The problems are; irregular firing control and uncertainty in estimation of the absolute firing-times shown in records. Definitely, the time difference will introduce an error to the first arrival times, and accordingly; it will cause some distortion in the resulting velocity tomogram. A method to determine the firing time is suggested here. The method determines the optimum onset time by comparing the horizontal and the NMO velocity with various amount of delay time adjustment.

In general, a method for generating irregular wave by combination of component waves obtained from linear wave theory is widely used. In these method, however, mean water surface elevation is rising from time to time because of nonlinear effect of wave. In this study, for the rising problem of mean water surface elevation and stabilization of calculation from time to time, mass transport velocity for horizontal velocity at wave source position is considered. The rising problem of mean water surface elevation is checked by comparing calculated wave profile from numerical technique proposed in this study with target wave profile at wave source position in numerical wave tank by using CADMAS-SURF code. And, by generating irregular wave, the validity of wave overtopping rate estimated from this numerical analysis is discussed by comparing computed results with measured results in hydraulic model experiments for vertical seawall located on a sloping sea bottom. As a results, the computations are validated against the previously experimental results by hydraulic model test and numerical results of this study and a good agreement is observed. Therefore, numerical technique of this study is a powerful tool for estimating wave overtopping rate over the crest of coastal structure.
Radio propagation in a high-speed railway is affected by ground reflective waves that are due to irregular reflection by the railway track, which consists of rails, sleepers, and gravel. This paper provides a train radio propagation model that simulates an irregular track reflective wave as a random variable. A simulation study using the train radio propagation model shows that the path loss exponent is around 3.0, indicating a reduced path loss compared to the value of 4.0 in the general mobile radio environment. Regressive analysis of the received signal strength indicators measured in the Gyeongbu high-speed railway showed the results identical to those of the simulation. These results confirm the train radio propagation model and can be applied to the coverage estimation and the design of a train radio network.

In this paper, Ultra Wide-Band(UWB) radar sensor is employed to detect flying drones and avoid collision in dense clutter environments. UWB signal is preferred when high resolution range measurement is required for moving targets. However, the time varying motion of flying drones may increase clutter noises in return signals and deteriorates the target detection performance, which lead to the performance degradation of anti-collision radars. We adopt a dynamic clutter suppression algorithm to estimate the time-varying distances to the moving drones with enhanced accuracy. A modified Constant False Alarm Rate(CFAR) is developed using an adaptive filter algorithm to suppress clutter while the false detection performance is well maintained. For this purpose, a velocity dependent CFAR algorithm is implemented to eliminate the clutter noise against dynamic target motions. Experiments are performed against flying drones having arbitrary trajectories to verify the performance improvement.

In this study, fundamental research is conducted for the generation technique and analysis of multi-directional irregular waves in the Deep Ocean Engineering Basin (DOEB). A three-dimensional boundary element method-based numerical tank is implemented to perform wave generation simulations, and directional spectrum estimation is carried out using the results of simulations. The wave generation technique of the Snake type wave maker, generating multi-directional irregular waves, is implemented using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Inverse Fast Fourier Transform (IFFT) algorithms. The wave generation technique is validated by comparing the wave spectrum from simulations and experiments. A Maximum Likelihood Method (MLM) based estimation code is developed for estimating the directional wave spectra. The multi-directional irregular waves are tested in the DOEB and the numerical tank, and directional wave spectra obtained from two methodologies are estimated and compared. A correction procedure for the directional distribution of multi-directional waves is established, and the possibility of correcting the directional spreading function using the numerical tank is validated.
The determination of seismic velocities in refractors for near-surface seismic refraction investigations is an ill-posed problem. Small variations in the computed time parameters can result in quite large lateral variations in the derived velocities, which are often artefacts of the inversion algorithms. Such artefacts are usually not recognized or corrected with forward modelling. Therefore, if detailed refractor models are sought with model based inversion, then detailed starting models are required. The usual source of artefacts in seismic velocities is irregular refractors. Under most circumstances, the variable migration of the generalized reciprocal method (GRM) is able to accommodate irregular interfaces and generate detailed starting models of the refractor. However, where the very-near-surface environment of the Earth is also irregular, the efficacy of the GRM is reduced, and weathering corrections can be necessary. Standard methods for correcting for surface irregularities are usually not practical where the very-near-surface irregularities are of limited lateral extent. In such circumstances, the GRM smoothing statics method (SSM) is a simple and robust approach, which can facilitate more-accurate estimates of refractor velocities. The GRM SSM generates a smoothing 'statics' correction by subtracting an average of the time-depths computed with a range of XY values from the time-depths computed with a zero XY value (where the XY value is the separation between the receivers used to compute the time-depth). The time-depths to the deeper target refractors do not vary greatly with varying XY values, and therefore an average is much the same as the optimum value. However, the time-depths for the very-near-surface irregularities migrate laterally with increasing XY values and they are substantially reduced with the averaging process. As a result, the time-depth profile averaged over a range of XY values is effectively corrected for the near-surface irregularities. In addition, the time-depths computed with a Bero XY value are the sum of both the near-surface effects and the time-depths to the target refractor. Therefore, their subtraction generates an approximate 'statics' correction, which in turn, is subtracted from the traveltimes The GRM SSM is essentially a smoothing procedure, rather than a deterministic weathering correction approach, and it is most effective with near-surface irregularities of quite limited lateral extent. Model and case studies demonstrate that the GRM SSM substantially improves the reliability in determining detailed seismic velocities in irregular refractors.

A set of experiments (Shallow Water 2006, SW06) was carried out in shallow water near the New Jersey shelf break in summer 2006. Significant fluctuations in direct and surface reflected arrivals were observed from the chirp data (1100~2900 Hz) measured on a vertical line array. This paper presents a geoacoustic inverssion technique for short-range acoustic data with fluctuating arrivals and inversion results of experimental data. In order to reduce effects of random sea surface on the inversion, the acoustic energy back-propagated from the array to the source through direct and bottom-reflected paths is defined as the objective function. A multi-step inversion scheme is applied to the data using VFSR (Very Fast Simulated Reannealing) optimization technique. The inversion results show a source depth oscillation period equal to the measured ocean surface wave period. The inverted bottom sound speed is 1645 m/s and is similar to that estimated by other work at the same site.
