Study of Injector Damage on Fuel-rich Gas Generator (연료 과농 가스발생기의 분사기 손상에 관한 연구)

  • In the development process of a fuel-rich gas generator using kerosene and LOx for a 30 tonf class liquid rocket engine, a heat damage occurred at the LOx post of swirl coaxial injectors used in the gas generator and the problem has been examined. To prevent the heat damage, injectors are redesigned to have an increased recess while maintaining internal mixing, which minimizes recirculation region to prevent anchoring of the flame in the recirculation region. The combustion test results of the sub-scale gas generator showed that this scheme can prevent heat damage of the LOx post in the swirl coaxial injectors of the fuel-rich gas generator.

Combustion Characteristics of Hypersonic SCRamjet Engine (극초음속 스크램제트 엔진의 연소특성)

  • This paper describes numerical efforts to characterize the flame-holding and air-fuel mixing process of model SCRamjet engine combustor, where a hydrogen jet injected into a supersonic cross flow and in a cavity Combustion phenomena in a model SCRamjet engine, which has been experimentally studied at University of Queensland and Australian National University using a free-piston shock tunnel, was observed around separation region of upstream of the normal injector and inside of cavity. The results show that the separation region and cavity generates several recirculation zones, which increase the fuel-air mixing. Self ignition occurs in the separation-freestream and cavity-freestream interface.

  • 본 연구에서는 양산중인 배기량 2.4Liter, 간접분사방식의 소형 디젤엔진에서 연소방식을 직접 분사방식으로 연소계를 재설계하여, 간접분사방식과 직접분사방식에 따른 엔진성능상의 차이점을 비교 평가하고, 아울러 직접분사방식에서 연소실 형상과 연소 관련 주요 인자들의 변경시 엔 진성은에 미치는 영향에 대해 고찰하였다. 직접분사방식 엔진은 간접분사방식 엔진에 대해 동 일출력, 동일 Smoke 수준인 경우 10-15%의 연료소비 저감의 효과가 있고, 이에 따라 연소관련 부품의 열부하면에서도 유리하였으나, 소음 및 NOx 배출은 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 직접분사 연소방식에서는 Deep Bowl 연소실 형태의 Cylindrical Type 과 Re-entrant Type 에서 연비와 Smoke 등을 고려한 최적 분사시기가 Re-entrant Type 에서 4.deg. CA정도 늦었으며, 각기 최적 분사시기에서 스옴, NOx를 비교한 결과 Re-entrant Type이 더 우수하였다.

  • The o]d technique of sandblasting which has been used for paint or scale removing, deburring, and glass decorating has recently been developed into a powder blasting technique for brittle materials, capable of producing micro structures larger than $100\mu\textrm{m}$. In this study, we investigated the effect of the size of abrasive and the stand-off distance on the machinability of SUS 304. The varying parameters were the impact angle $90^{\circ}$, scanning times of nozzle 10 and the different nozzle height between 70mm and 140mm. The diameter of dot pattern were 0.2mm. The powder were alumina sharp particles, WA #600, #800 and #2000. The blasting pressure of powder at 0.3 Mpa.

  • LOx post damage occurs from the development process of the full-scale gas generator which is necessary to 30 tonf class engine development was described. The cause and analysis for damage was described. The combustion test result of 4 injector, the full-scale gas generator and redesigned injector was described. Combustion instability, purge, the low momentum of LOx spray, small recess number, the low flow of LOx, and the high spray angle is main reason the possibility of knowing. The redesign for the injector in the direction of increase of recess number, increase of LOx and fuel spray angle, decrease of gap interval between the LOx post outer wall and fuel screen and increase of LOx post wall thick became accomplished.

  • The flow around a foil with water jet was investigated using the two-frame PIV(CACTUS 3.1) system. After separation, unsteady recirculation & reattachment region was shown a result at reading edge. Separation area was decreased to 1/3 more by waterjet system with coanda effect. Angle of attack and water jet velocity was a variable in the experiment. Each parameters was controlled to $0^{\circ}\sim35^{\circ}$ and $0[m/s]\sim9.2[m/s]$. The separation of flow appearanced at first when the angle of attack is $17^{\circ}\sim18^{\circ}$, However, according to grew up of velocity, beginning of the separation was delayed. In this experiment, vortex and separation region was disappeared by blown when each parameters are low level, and separation controlled more certainly.

  • Split injection has been known to reduce total hydrocarbon (THC) emission level and increase engine performance under certain operating conditions 1, 2). Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is a common technique adopted for nirtric oxides (NOx) reduction by the dilution of intake air, despite a sacrifice of simultaneous increase in THC and decrease in engine performance3). Thus, using split injection with adequate EGR may improve the emission level of UBHC, NOx and the engine performance compared to that of single-injection with or without EGR cases. The purpose of this study is to investigate the engine performance and emission levels at various engine operating conditions and injection methods when it is applied with EGR. The characteristics of single-injection and split-injection were investigated with various engine loads and EGR rates. The engine speed is changed from 800rpm to 1200rpm to investigate how the combustion characteristics are changing with increasing engine speed.

A Study on the Combustion Performance with Variation of Fuel Injection Hole Configuration at Supersonic Combustion (초음속 연소에서 연료 분사구 형상에 따른 연소성능 변화에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • In order to investigate the effect of fuel injection hole configuration within the scramjet combustor, experiment and quasi-one-dimensional analysis was performed. And the results were compared with experiment and analysis result which were performed in 2008 with same facility and test condition. Fuel injection hole size was decreased and quantity was increased. However the depth of fuel penetration and fuel flow were maintained. As a test result, combustion performance was increased significantly with no-cavity injector and slightly with plain-cavity. However, combustion performance with zigzag-cavity was decreased.

  • The performance test of recirculation line in propellant feeding system was carried out. Liquid oxygen was used as cryogenic propellant and helium was used as recirculation promotion gas. Tests were done in cases at atmospheric pressure and at pressure of 4 barg in the ullage space of propellant tank. Liquid oxygen recirculation flowrate with helium injection flowrate and temperature distribution along the line were measured. There was appropriate helium injection flowrate for gas-lift recirculation system. Test data were used to make calculation program by test data correlation method. In this paper the procedure of calculation was presented and the results were compared to test data.
