Development of Creative Design Coursework in Industrial Engineering - Focus on the Product Family Design (산업공학에서의 창의설계 교육 사례연구 - 제품가족디자인을 중심으로)

  • The objective of this study was to propose a new framework for the creative engineering in the product family design coursework. The idea of product family design is a good solution to fulfill customer's requirements and to respond quickly for the technology change. Mass customization based on product family and product platform is a new paradigm with variety and customization through flexibility and quick responsiveness. In this study, the subjects of product family, product platform, product family map, platform leveraging strategy, morphological matrix and module based product family design were reviewed and presented. A new idea generation scheme utilizing SCAMPER method was combined with the morphological matrix approach. For the effective product family and platform design, creative efforts and approaches were utilized and implemented in the coursework process. This will help students to develop creative thinking and approaches in the engineering problem solving.

  • This paper tries to implement BOM calculation effectively by sharing the data in CAD management system and BOM systems. For this purpose, a component-based software system in this thesis was implemented by using CAD drawing systems. It can be found from this research that errors happened were reduced sharply. Especially, the BOM calculation period was cut from 2 weeks to 2days, and at the same time, the correct rate achieved 95%. Moreover, there are some following effects of our implemented system: First of all, because component development method was adopted in this paper, it makes program easy to reuse, to keep/maintenance as well as modify. Second, long-distant management is possible by using web-based development method. Third, data management is made effective by constructing image and tort database. Fourth drawing management is systemized, Finally, the system is suitable for companies.

  • This research examined Israel's economic trends, trades, and cooperation with Korea prior to the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Korea and Israel. Also, this research assessed opportunities and ways to expand the above more easily. Israel has a high level of technology in basic materials and information technology (IT). Meanwhile, Korea mainly exports automobiles and wireless communication equipment to Israel and imports semiconductor-related equipment and aviation components from Israel. Moreover, since the two countries signed a trade agreement in August 2019, they expect to expand trade with each other. As such, in order to promote multilateral trade and cooperation between the two countries, it is necessary to expand joint development opportunities through mutual collaboration on basic industries and smart mobility that Korea is in need. Further, Korean construction and materials companies related to the SOC industry in Israel should accelerate their local advances. In addition, more of the governmental support should be provided to foster regional experts and to offer various information to the companies entering the country.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) interconnects every device by allowing them to communicate directly and share information with each other and has been recently applied to various industrial fields. The integration of home appliances with IoT has led to the creation of new markets by providing quick and better experience to consumers. Although IoT has been integrated into most modern day appliances, there have been few developments for kitchen appliances. This paper presents the development of integrating IoT with the blender, one of the most widely used appliance in the kitchen. A custom application was made to interact with the blender that provides three main functions: digital controller, maintenance, and defrosting alarm. The function of digital controller provides wireless control to the conventional blender. The maintenance function detects and alerts the user on blender reliability with the intent of enabling the anticipation of hardware failures. The defrost alarm alerts the user when the ingredient has reached the appropriate and desired temperature when cooking frozen food.

  • IIoT, the IoT technology applied to the industrial field, is being used as a monitoring technology for increasing in production rate and safety of workers. However, monitoring through the construction of IIoT network using Ethernet and RS485 in production lines where dozens to hundreds of machine tools are manufacturing components, have difficulties of infrastructure cost and network flexibility and fluidity. Therefore, in this paper, using IEEE 802.15.4 standard WSN device to construct a Ad-Hoc WSN in the production line. In addition, the transmission period and order of the sensor nodes are set by applying the EtherCAT communication method in which the payload frames are shared by all the sensor nodes. From this, we have overcome the problem of reliability decline and real-time issue due to the packet collision of wireless network and confirmed that it is a wireless network routing method that can be used in the actual industrial field.

  • It has problems to use the existing construction information classification system as the bridge breakdown structure due to lack of relationships between element classes. In this study, we proposed the bridge breakdown system for supplementation of above-mentioned classification system. The proposed system, for geometric information modeling, was based on international standards of methodology for structuring part families namely PLIB Part 42. In particular, the breakdown system, considering of the functional classification for the semantic information of the elements is included. In addition, we proposed a basic framework for actual modeling using bridge breakdown system and showed that it can be used in practice.

Material Qualification, Equivalency, and Acceptance Test for Aerospace Composite Materials (복합재료의 인증, 동등성 및 수락시험)

  • The civilian and military agencies require the use of statistic-based allowable to design aerospace vehicles with composite materials. In order to comply this regulation, it is necessary to establish relatively large amount of database, which increases test costs and time. Recently NASA/FAA developed the new method which can satisfy the regulation with smaller test matrix through AGATE(Advanced General Aviation Transport Experiments) program. Especially the concept of material equivalency is very useful when the material has been certified in previous program, and it allows the engineer to use the database with the addition of small test matrix. This paper summarizes the material equivalency and acceptance test methodology so that composite material database can be shared and improve the credibility of the material quality. As a demonstration, the material design allowable of the high temperature carbon/epoxy composite developed domestically was determined with this methodology.

  • The domestic automotive industry must consider a strategic shift from traditional automotive component manufacturing to align with future trends such as connectivity, autonomous driving, sharing, and electrification. This research conducted topic modeling on R&D projects in the future automotive sector funded by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy from 2013 to 2021. We found that topics such as sensors, communication, driver assistance technology, and battery and power technology remained consistently prominent throughout the entire period. Conversely, topics like high-strength lightweight chassis were observed only in the first period, while topics like AI, big data, and hydrogen fuel cells gained increasing importance in the second and third periods. Furthermore, this research analyzed the areas of concentrated investment for each period based on topic-specific government investment amounts and investment growth rates.

  • As of July, 2009, Chungnam Province get DI (Direct Investment) of 2,502 corporations as the amount of 31 billion US dollars only for 3 years. Especially, Chungnam provincial governor make a excessive performance of 2.5 times comparing to the target number, 1,000 of inviting capital, that is public promise in the election. Now, the amount of inviting foreign capital is 1.2 billion dollars, at the end of this year it might be 1.4 billion dollars just in case of making a success on going negotiations. This outstanding performance comes from governor's leadership and aggressive strategies of well-trained subordinates. Chungnam Province has nation-wide multiple targets focused on interdisciplinary industries including strategic industries of display, auto-parts, steel, and oil-chemistry. Also, it has organic network system based on the very descriptive and accurate informations managing the task force team consisted of 35 competent members. In conclusion, the core competence of inviting foreign capital in a regional government is governor's strong leadership, activated organization consisted of specially well trained subordinates, and predominant differentiated strategies in details.

  • Now, the Korean footwear industry needs the concrete enhancement of its competitive edge for regaining of its previous well known reputation. For this purpose, this study emphasizes the cooperation between the members through the supply chain of Korean footwear industry, as a c-SCM(Collaborative Supply Chain Management) by aid of information system. The key issue will be how well to coordinate operations flow not only through internal process stages, but also through entire external supply chain stages. In other words, the target goal must be the system optimization through the entire supply chain beyond the local optimization of internal supply chain process. We, at first, analyze the traditional structure of supply chain in Korean footwear industry and find out critical problems, and then, we develop the collaborative information framework in conjunction with several collaborative process modules. The suggested collaborative production & supply planning system was designed for sharing information and it is based on ebXML(electronic business eXtensible Markup Language) framework. In this way, the enhancement of the efficiency and competitiveness can be expected through the synergy effect of coordination of information and material flow, the reduction of lead times, and production costs.
