  • In this paper, we search integral distinguishers of lightweight block cipher PIPO and propose a key recovery attack on 8-round PIPO-64/128 with the obtained 6-round distinguishers. The lightweight block cipher PIPO proposed in ICISC 2020 is designed to provide the efficient implementation of high-order masking for side-channel attack resistance. In the proposal, various attacks such as differential and linear cryptanalyses were applied to show the sufficient security strength. However, the designers leave integral attack to be conducted and only show that it is unlikely for PIPO to have integral distinguishers longer than 5-round PIPO without further analysis on Division Property. In this paper, we search integral distinguishers of PIPO using a MILP-aided Division Property search method. Our search can show that there exist 6-round integral distinguishers, which is different from what the designers insist. We also consider linear operation on input and output of distinguisher, respectively, and manage to obtain totally 136 6-round integral distinguishers. Finally, we present an 8-round PIPO-64/128 key recovery attack with time complexity 2124.5849 and memory complexity of 293 with four 6-round integral distinguishers among the entire obtained distinguishers.

  • The FBC(Fixed-Base Comb) is a method to efficiently operate scalar multiplication, a core operation for signature generations of the ECDSA(Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm), utilizing precomputed lookup tables. Since the FBC refers to the table depending on the secret information and the values of the table are publicly known, an adversary can perform HCA(Horizontal Correlation Analysis), one of the single trace side channel attacks, to reveal the secret. However, HCA is a statistical analysis that requires a sufficient number of unit operation traces extracted from one scalar multiplication trace for a successful attack. In the case of the scalar multiplication for signature generations of ECDSA, the number of unit operation traces available for HCA is significantly fewer than the case of the RSA exponentiation, possibly resulting in an unsuccessful attack. In this paper, we propose an improved HCA on lookup table based scalar multiplication algorithms such as FBC. The proposed attack improves HCA by increasing the number of unit operation traces by determining such traces for the same intermediate value through collision analysis. The performance of the proposed attack increases as more secure elliptic curve parameters are used.

  • This paper proposed receding methods for a radix-${\gamma}$ representation of the secret scalar which are resistant to SPA. Unlike existing receding method, these receding methods are left-to-right so they can be interleaved with a left-to-right scalar multiplication, removing the need to store both the scalar and its receding. Hence, these left-to-right methods are suitable for implementing on memory limited devices such as smart cards and sensor nodes

  • In the recent years, power attacks were widely investigated, and so various countermeasures have been proposed. In the case of block ciphers, masking methods that blind the intermediate results in the algorithm computations(encryption, decryption, and key-schedule) are well-known. Applications of masking methods are able to vary in different block ciphers, therefore suitable masking methods about each ciphers have been researched. Existed methods of ARIA have many revisions of mask value. And because existed masking methods pay no regard for key schedule, secret information can be exposed. In the case of ARIA, this problem is more serious than different block ciphers. Therefore we proposes an efficient masking scheme of ARIA including the key-schedule. Our method reduces time-complexity of ARIA encryption, and solve table-size problem of the general ARIA masking scheme from 256*8 byte to 256*6 byte.

  • In this paper we suggest method for scalar recoding which is both secure against SPA and DPA. Suggested method is countermeasure to power analysis attack through scalar recoding using negative expression. Suggested method ensures safety of SPA by recoding the operation to apply same pattern to each digit. Also, by generating the random recoding output according to random number, safety of DPA is ensured. We also implement precomputation table and modified scalar addition algorithm for addition to protect against SPA that targets digit's sign. Since suggested method itself can ensure safety to both SPA and DPA, it is more effective and efficient. Through suggested method, compared to previous scalar recoding that ensures safety to SPA and DPA, operation efficiency is increased by 11%.

  • Recently, the development of quantum computers means a great threat to existing public key system based on discrete algebra problems or factorization problems. Accordingly, NIST is currently in the process of contesting and screening PQC(Post Quantum Cryptography) that can be implemented in both the computing environment and the upcoming quantum computing environment. Among them, SIKE is the only Isogeny-based cipher and has the advantage of a shorter public key compared to other PQC with the same safety. However, like conventional cryptographic algorithms, all quantum-resistant ciphers must be safe for existing cryptanlysis. In this paper, we studied power analysis-based cryptographic analysis techniques for SIKE, and notably we analyzed SIKE through wavelet transformation and deep learning-based clustering power analysis. As a result, the analysis success rate was close to 100% even in SIKE with applied masking response techniques that defend the accuracy of existing clustering power analysis techniques to around 50%, and it was confirmed that was the strongest attack on SIKE.

  • RSA-CRT algorithm is widely used to improve the performance of RSA algorithm. However, it is also vulnerable to side channel attacks like as general RSA. One of the power attacks on RSA-CRT, proposed by Boer et al., is a power analysis which utilizes reduction steps of RSA-CRT algorithm with equidistant chosen messages, called as ECMPA(Equidistant Chosen Messages Power Analysis) or MRED(Modular Reduction on Equidistant Data) analysis. This method is to find reduction output value r=xmodp which has the same equidistant patterns as equidistant messages. One can easily compute secret prime p from exposure of r. However, the result of analysis from a reduction step in [5] is remarkably different in our experiment from what Boer expected in [5]. Especially, we found that there are Ghost key patterns depending on the selection of attack bits and selected reduction algorithms. Thus, in this paper we propose several Ghost key patterns unknown to us until now, then we suggest enhanced and detailed analyzing methods.

  • This paper suggests a new scalar multiplication algerian to resist SPA which threatens the security of cryptographic primitive on the hardware recently, and discusses how to apply this algerian Our algorithm is better than other SPA countermeasure algorithms aspect to computational efficiency. Since known SPA countermeasure algorithms have dependency of computation. these are difficult to construct parallel architecture efficiently. To solve this problem our algorithm removes dependency and computes a multiplication and a squaring during inversion with parallel architecture in order to minimize loss of performance. We implement hardware logic with VHDL(VHSIC Hardware Description Language) to verify performance. Synthesis tool is Synplify Pro 7.0 and target chip is Xillinx VirtexE XCV2000EFGl156. Total equivalent gate is 60,508 and maximum frequency is 30Mhz. Our scalar multiplier can be applied to digital signature, encryption and decryption, key exchange, etc. It is applied to a embedded-micom it protects SPA and provides efficient computation.

  • Among previous Side Channel Analysis (SCA) methods, Differential Power Analysis (DPA) based on the statistical characteristics of collected signals has been known as an efficient attack for uncovering secret key of cryptosystems. However, the attack performance of this method is affected very much by the temporal misalignment and noise of collected side channel signals. In this paper, we propose a new method to surmount the noise problem in DPA. The performance of the proposed method is then evaluated while analyzing the power consumption signals of Micro-controller chips during a DES operation. Its performance is then compared to that of the original DPA in the time and frequency domains. When we compare the experimental results with respect to the needed number of traces to uncover the secret key, our proposed method shows the performance enhancement 33% in the time domain and 50% in the frequency domain.
