  • This study focuses on the investigation of bond strength of magnesium potassium phosphate cement mortar(MKPC) according to moisture condition of substrate. Tensile bond test, shear bond test and interfacial bond test are adopted for evaluating the adhesion characteristics of MKPC to conventional cement mortar substrate. The main experimental variables are test methods and moisture levels of substrate. Because the moisture condition of the substrate may be critical to achieving bond, optimum moisture condition for a conventional concrete substrate has evaluated in this study. The results are as follows ; The effects of moisture condition at substrate into the bonding of MKPC are less different than polymer cement mortar and epoxy mortar. But the saturated and surface dry condition is the most appropriate moisture level among the considered, followed by saturated condition and wet condition. Thus, an adequate moisture level of substrate for MKPC is essential for good bond strength.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the more reasonable equation of bond strength of grout-filled splice sleeve. To accomplish this objective, total 60 full-sized specimens were tested under monotonic loading. The experimental variables are compressive strength of mortar, embedment length and size of reinforcing bars. Following conclusions are obtained; 1) If the adequacy of existing equations which estimate the bond strength of grout-filled splice sleeve are investigated, they underestimate the bond strength of grout-filled splice sleeve by 8-18%. Also the existing equations have a tendency to underestimate with decrease in the embedment length of reinforcing bars. 2) From the test result of bond failure, the equation which estimates the confining pressure of grout-filled splice sleeve was proposed by making multiple regression analyses of which independent variables are embedment length of reinforcing bars and compressive strength of mortar. This equation predicted the measured bond capacity of this test more accurately than existing equations and eliminated the deviation according to the embedment length of reinforcing bars.

  • Polymer-modified cement mortar(PCM) has been widely used for strengthening of the concrete structures due to its excellent physical properties such as high strength and durability. Adhesive strength or behavior, on the other hands, between PCM and concrete is very important in strengthening the concrete member using PCM. Therefore the adhesive failure mechanism between PCM and concrete should be fully verified and understood. This study was performed to evaluate adhesive strength of PCM to the concrete by the direct pull-out test. In the direct pull-out tests, the adhesive strength under the various pre-treatment conditions such as immersion, thunder shower, freezing and thawing are evaluated. Also, the field direct pull-out test are performed to investigate the adhesive strength of mock-up test specimens. In the results of the test, the adhesive strength value by field test are lower than those of the standard curing condition. From these comparison and investigation, field test result was similar with the thunder shower test result. The results of the test was used to evaluate the korean industrial standard of polymer modified cement mortars for maintenance in concrete.

  • The aim of the research is providing a fundamental data on quality and constructability of direct tile setting method depending on various cement to sand ratio for tiling dry cement mortar. A large number of tile setting failures reported is related with the cement mortar and its construction for tiling. Because of different materials of tiles, the properties of tiling dry cement mortar, an adhesive for tiling, can influence on quality and constructability of tiling differently. Practically, the easiest way of controlling the properties of the tiling dry cement mortar is to control the proportion of cement and sand. Hence, in this research, sand to cement ratio (S/C) was controlled. Since there is no standarized method on evaluating performance of dry cement mortar for tiling, a several sensory evaluation methods were suggested and executed. According to the experiments conducted in this research, the adhesive performance of cement mortar for tiles can be different depending on the sides such as tile and substrate. Additionally, depending on S/C, finishability, initial adhesive performance, and tile shifting resistance can be changed for ceramic tile. Therefore, under the conditions of this research, about 5 of S/C can be recommended for appropriate performace of tiling dry cement mortar.

  • In this study, an impact resistance of concrete segmented composites adopted shell's structures which have the excellent impact resistance was assessed. In order to enhance the performances of concrete segmented composite, the bond strength of mortar between the concrete blocks should be improved. Hence, in this study polymer mortars were applied to increase the bond strength of mortar. From the results of bond tests, the 15% latex mortar was selected and static and low-velocity impact tests were carried out for the specimens applied the plain and latex mortar. The concrete segmented composites, of which the bond strength of mortar was enhanced, showed improved low-velocity impact resistances. A Nonlinear finite element analysis using the discrete crack model showed similar energy dissipating capacities to the impact test's results. Consequently, by improving the analysis models for segmented composites, the impact resistances for manifold variables can be predicted and assessed.

  • Chloride attack to reinforced concrete structures located in seaside can cause a serious problem of durability and maintenance during the service life. Corrosion of reinforced steel bars in concrete decreases the bond strength and finally causes the detachment of concrete cover. Polymer cement mortar is usually adopted to repair the deteriorated RC structures because of its strong bonding property. The recovered load-carrying capacity after the repair was simulated by non-linear FEM analysis. The properties of concrete, repairing materials, bonding materials and reinforced bar were used as input data. Four types of redispersible polymer powders were used as components of polymer cement mortar. Pull-off tests were carried out to examine the bond properties such as rigidity and strength. Effects of a corrosion inhibitor and the loss of reinforced bars due to the corrosion were also considered in this study. FEM modeling and analysis were conducted to propose the universal model. Physical bonding in the relationship between repair materials and steel reinforced bar is more dominant than chemical bonding.

  • The experimental research was conducted to evaluate the adhesive performance of surface finishing material with primer based on silane(primer). For this purpose, concrete specimens with compressive strength of 18, 30, 50 MPa were made and cured in water condition ($20{\pm}2^{\circ}C$) for 28 days. A primer was applied on the age of 28 days and evaluated according to based on the curing age of the surface finishing material. Moreover, the mortar specimen also made and tested as per KS F 4937 for compared with concrete-based test results. Test results indicated that the adhesive strength of specimens with primer exhibit similar than that of specimens without primer. Also, the adhesive performance improved with increasing in curing age and compressive strength. The correlation between compressive and adhesive strength of mortar and concrete specimens showed similar trend. It was noted that there is no significant effects of primer on adhesive performance of surface finishing material, thus use of primer has superior potential for solving durability problem of concrete slab surface.

  • This paper investigates the effects of the monomer ratios on the typical properties of polymer-modified mortars that contain methyl methacrylate-based latexes. Basic data are also obtained to develop appropriate latexes for cement modifiers. Polymer-modified mortars that contain methyl methacrylate latexes copolymerized with butyl acrylate or ethyl acrylate are prepared for different polymer-cement ratios. They are then tested to obtain the tensile and tensile adhesive strengthes of polymer-modified mortar with methyl methacrylate-based latexes. From the test results, the tensile strength of MB7 polymer-modified mortar was higher than normal cement mortar by a maximum of 94% with a 20% polymer-cement ratio, which was almost twice higher than normal. The tensile adhesive strength of the MB polymer-modified mortar was higher for higher MMA monomer contents and polymer-cement ratios, and increased up to four times than that of normal cement mortar. The basic properties of the polymer-modified mortars are more affected by the polymer-cement ratio than by the monomer ratio, and are improved over unmodified mortar.

  • The properties of recycled fine aggregates which had different source concrete were examined by mortar test. With higher strength of source concrete, specific gravity of recycled fine aggregate was higher and absorption of recycled fine aggregate was lower due to reduction of the volume of adhered cement paste. The compressive strength and flexible strength of mortar with recycled fine aggregate were affected by the interface boundary of new mortar and the strength of adhered mortar. Strength development of mortar with recycled fine aggregate reduced because recycled fine aggregate become a porous material with the smaller strength of source concrete. The drying shrinkage of mortar was about$800{\sim}2000{\mu}m/m$. It was about 1.5 times than that of mortar with natural fine aggregate. Relative dynamic modulus of elasticity was a similar level with that of mortar with natural fine aggregate.
